    Great video.
    I also do well with a black or red apps both pulled and under a bung, an small nymphs or cormorants moved slowly if the fish are cagey.

      100% I tend to start on lures and move over to the naturals if nothing is working with any consistency. This video was aimed towards fishing lures, but ill be doing videos on nymphs and the dreaded bung in the future.

    Super video. Certainly try out some dull flies. Usually use oranges, but I do use your incredible cat and black mamba 🎣🎣

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually, during the winter, fisheries will stock more anyway so oranges and chartreuse flies will work really well. If things get a little tricky, often a switch to these more natural colours will come up trumps.

    Just discovered your channel and are so grateful I did. Been watching avidly as just about to get back into fly fishing after a break of over 20years. Really out of touch with equipment & knowledge. I will certainly be buying flies from your website, but would you be able to give me a quick bit of advice on what line(s) makes /types etc which are to be used in a reservoir only. Many thanks and keep up the great informative videos. Cheers 👍

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shaun. It was all filmed on the GoPro Black 7. The sound is surprisingly good on it. The bits that suffered more with the wind were on my Galasxy S9 Edge. I need to get better equipment tbh. Thank you for your kind words.

    Which line was you using, floating?

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would have been a 6-foot fast sink tip in a 7 weight, for the STIFU. The stalking rod would have been an Airflo 5 weight Floater to load it quickly and at short distances.

    Hi Gareth great video as always I see your using a vision stifu rod are they good rods? I'm thinking of purchasing 1

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can have mine for £200 used on about 5 occasions, like new. Good rods, I prefer a 10 foot though.

    • @CleddauFly
      @CleddauFly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UkFlyFisher what weight stifu were you using? I'm looking at a 10ft 7 weight as an all rounder? I don't want a poker that's unforgiving playing stockies. Thanks.

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CleddauFly mine is a 9 foot 7 weight. The tip is forgiving, I've had small brown on it and it's still great fun. I would say the 10 foot is more of an all-rounder than the 9 foot, but if you want it £200 and it's yours. I would recommend the Redington Crux if you can afford it. It costs a little bit more, but I'd a fantastic rod.

    Hi Gareth, great video as always, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos recently and picking up some great tips.
    Still new and a bit confused by tapered leaders. Some people use them, some people don’t. Do you bother with them and if so what is your set up normally?
    I’m thinking on a 3 fly set up of say buzzers of 4ft apart on a 12ft leader having the leader have a massive butt and mid section is just going to spook the fish!?

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rarely tapper my leader. It's effective for beginners though and I will use it for dry fly fishing or in very very strong winds. For dry fly, I'll usually do 6 foot of 8lbs leader, attached to 4 foot of 4 or 5lbs leader. The tapper helps with the transfer of energy and leads to a better turnover of flies. For teams of flies and lures etc the weight of the flies will do that for you so tapering isn't really needed. Hope that helps.
      All the best.
      Gareth

      There have been a few times in recent years when leaves have been on the trees until December. As you can tell this was filmed in November and was filmed to give you the tips and tricks you would need for the following winter months. After receiving many messages as a result of this video I know that the video worked as intended and I hope you enjoyed it as much as others did. :)
