  • In today's episode, my brother joins me on another trip to Ellerdine Lakes to give you a few tips and tricks on winter fishing for trout.
    We had a great day filming and all who journeyed with us caught well, with a few PB's caught along the way.
    We hope you enjoy our content.
    Tips to take away.
    Tip number 1 get there early. Youll be the first fly they have seen in over 12 hours.
    Tip number 2 keep mobile.
    Tip number 3 vary your retrieve.
    Tip number 4 avoid other anglers as too much pressure pushes the fish out and spooks them.
    Tip number 5 fish a sink tip line if its flat calm. ( Even when it's not this is probably the best line you can use. )
    Tip number 6 Check your hook if you are missing fish. You may have blunted it on a back cast or other issues like the bizarre situation I was faced with.
    Tip number 7 fish alongside weed beds as trout hide in ambush and strike into food along these areas.
    Tip number 8 if the takes dry up a change of flies can bring a few extra fish.
    Tip number 9 don't overfish a spot
    Tip number 10 cast to rising fish
    Tip number 11 you can return to a hot spot later in the day providing it has been given a rest.

    What an awesome days fishing that was Gareth , really enjoyed the day with you and it was a proud moment to net your new PB rainbow trout, was great to see you catching trout with all the pressure from anglers around you once you starting catching them doubles, the tips in this video certainly worked , it’s always good to catch fish consistently all day makes you know your doing something right, this will be a day I will certainly remember, hopefully next time your landing my PB

      UkFlyFisher I have had a few doubles this year....a couple caught on my orvis Helios 3 5 weight (Now that was a fun scrap) but like you I have to drive 2-3 hours to get to the fisheries which stock them.....funny thing is the hardest fight I have ever had from a trout was a six pound brownie at my local Spring Hill trout Fishery in tumbride wells.....it took me legit 10 mins to land it on an airflo 7 weight

    Using the airflo sink tip floater I see.....how do you find the snaking and coiling? I like airflo as a company but the line memory on the floating lines really bothers me. I had to keep stretching it to get around the issue.....the sink tip line really does the business though

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, airflow sinkers are some of the best on the market. Their floaters are a different story and can hold plenty of memory. The super dry 6ft fast sink tip, however, does not have this problem. If yours is coiling it is most likely an old line that has been stored there for a long time and they will happily change that for you. The sink tip I have in the video is 2 and a half years old now and only has one slight dink in the line from when a fellow angler accidentally stepped on it. otherwise no memory at all.

      @@barrybigplums yes, they are great. More coarse anglers but they certainly get people fly fishing and I appreciate the work they do. I am sending them a large shipment of flies soon. Maybe one day we will do a video together. Just need some proper sound equipment first.

    With the airflo super dri fast intermediate sink tip do you go with a 7wt for a 7wt rod or do you go for a 8wt with a 7wt rod?

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both. Then I can get a more delicate presentation for fussy fish with the 7 and little more distance and control over my lures with an 8.

    It’s more about finding the depths and keeping your flies that depth rather can fly choice/patterns

    • @UkFlyFisher
      @UkFlyFisher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not always true. For example today the fish were feeding in the top 2 feet all day. Yet would only take certain patterns and switch off them quickly. I would say there is a strong argument to suggest Depth is more important than fly choice. Both though are important and there are days in which the fly you chose will affect the outcome greater than the depth. Something to keep in mind while you are out on your adventures.

      Hi, Gary glad you enjoyed the video. You may have missed the tips due to bad audio which I will be working on.
      Unfortunately, everything I own and the fishing is all paid for by me and only so much I can afford in one go.
      Tip number 1 get there early. Youll be the first fly they have seen in over 12 hours.
      Tip number 2 keep mobile.
      Tip number 3 vary your retrieve.
      Tip number 4 avoid other anglers as too much pressure pushes the fish out and spooks them.

      Tip number 8 if the takes dry up a change of flies can bring a few extra fish.
      Tip number 9 don't overfish a spot
      Tip number 10 cast to rising fish
      Tip number 11 you can return to a hot spot later in the day providing it has been given a rest.
      A few I can remember. I will do a clearer video when we have the audio equipment.
      Thank you for your feedback.

    Where were the tips then? Didn't think All I would see is an expert incessantly catching fish on a lake with no other anglers to cramp his mobility😳. Why the back racket supposedly dramatic music. Absolutely unnecessary. Fishing is enjoyed for the peace and that includes videos please.

Tip number 4 avoid other anglers as too much pressure pushes the fish out and spooks them. Tip number 5 fish a sink tip line if its flat calm. Also nice to see how effective the lures are considering we did a video with the naturals the week before :) . If this stuff doesn't interest you then don't watch it. Pointless comments won't help the community improve. The sound quality is bad, I can't afford better at the moment. The only reason you call me an expert is because I work my socks off and constantly improve. I'm giving you the information for free be happy you don't have to go figure it out for yourself as I had too :) . If you do not like my videos I thank you for the views and interactions and kindly suggest finding another fly fisher to watch. Tight Lines.

      Although I am not an angler I learn a lot about fishing from watching my brother's videos and being there with him on these trips to help capture these moments for the viewers. Although it is not always apparent in these videos I can confirm that the two lakes you see fished on for this video were packed with anglers for the majority of our time there. The windy conditions you hear in our video is unfortunate but the wind on the other lakes at the location meant that all but one or two anglers were fishing on the other lakes on location. You will frequently see anglers in the background and helping out net the fish. It is my second time visiting Ellerdine Lakes and I have been overwhelmed by the number of friendly people I have met whilst filming, off camera I have spoken to many on site from a community I know little about but they are all welcoming regardless. If fishing for you is a peaceful activity then that's fine, I can see the tranquillity of angling. However my experience as a spectator so far is an atmosphere of comradery and shared enthusiasm for fishing and a level of respect for all anglers from all walks of life. Thank you for your comment as all opinions and criticism will help us tailor our content for our viewers.
