    Friction is the enemy, lay a piece of angle iron point up in the bed of the truck and on the ramp and it would probably push on by hand.

    edit: I bought a 4x8 sheet of polymer that they use artificial ice rings. I cut it and mounted in my truck bed & things slid out with ease..

    have a A frame with large casters built so you can roll it to your different equipment,,you build it tall enough you can back the bed of your truck under it, hook all four corners of your long line it get a electric winch, you can raise it high enough to back your truck under it and then lower it down into the bed. with the casters you can roll it to your net and do the same thing, or pick up multiply crab pots at one time.

    A nice little timber dock to reverse up to is a great idea. Maybe using rollers made from scrap pipe?

    I think I'd build a trailer or something that is dedicated to hauling that guy around it looks heavy and cumbersome. Love that you guys show the real side of an industry that we take for granted when we sit down to Fri fish fry. Thanks for letting us come along with you guys. How's the glass work going? As always good luck and God Bless. Calm seas and fair weather.

    I'd suggest when you get some free time (lol) you build a welded or bolted frame to lift the reel on and off the truck at home. In my head I see a box-frame just like the reel housing, but bigger with the bottom rail of the 'cube' taken out and some feet or pressure mount plates to keep it from sinking into the ground, with an endless chain block at the top centre. 4 sling points to lift the reel and she can go straight up in the air, truck in under, then down she comes. Even an electric winch if you want to be lazy (lol again).
    Just an idea, not an internet pro telling you what you're doing wrong lol.
    Looking forward to you hauling some barn-doors over the rail.

    get or make a square frame to mount to the top of your spool then some camper jacks to lift it up and drive your truck bed under it . to load and un load the spool

    Almost all fishermen in New Zealand use cheap imported Japanese Hiab trucks with around 3-7 tonne payload these are used everyday to transport net or long line reels, nets, cray pots, net or long line anchors, fish traps and the days catch.

    i have been watching you with this for some time but i think it would be a good idea if you used a trailer to transport and store it this will save you a lot of time and save you all the work of potting it on the truck hence out on the water quicker as this is done several times a year also a tarp will help keep it in good working order as a trailer will pay for itself in no time

    You might be thinking of a 'shackle' of gear. A term we used when I was gillnetting years ago.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A skate is the proper term, but that would refer to a line that is 300 fathoms long. These are 1/3 skates or 100 fathoms. Pot gear also refers to line as shots, usually 33 fathoms up here. The term may be used loosely by fisherman, but for simplicity one unit of line is called a shot.

    • @douglasthompson2740
      @douglasthompson2740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EISAlaska Brings back memories of the old halibut schooners that would come into town piled high with skiff and galvanized washtubs that held a skate each. Wasn't long after that (late fifties) that they all went to long line. Anchor chain on large ships is marked in shots of ninety feet. Some of the links we had weighed 150# each. Hate to buy any of it at today's prices! Good luck with the halibut.

  • @zeekk109

    Why don’t you build a skeleton trailer for the reel , simple single axle two behind that way you just leave it in the trailer whe not on the boat and it’s always ready to go. Make it easy to work on you can move it into shop when need to
