Hopefully, this week I will also upload a retrospective video on Arkham Horror 2nd edition as well. Stay tuned for that.
Small apologies, the long format ah2 video will come soonish, but i've expanded its scope. So it will take a bit longer to so.
Your video is perfect. No fluff, plenty of coverage, with direct game info to make a purchase.
That's the plan!
Far better then 2nd edition. No more having to sit out a turn because a deck told you too, much smoother game play, and very good scaling method. I love that if someone shows up to game night late you can deal them in, and if someone has to leave early you can drop them out without too much of a fuss.
Just bought this, can’t wait to play.
Good summary video!
This is a great game.
I remember playing this way back when and there were portals to other universes? - did they do away with that or is it still in the new edition?
Kinda still in, but in a very different way. 3rd edition is a very very different game to 2nd.
@@3MBG Good to know, thanks!
Would have liked some comparison noted to 2nd ed, since we all know you love it, but great review as always
Time code didn't really allow for much there. But..... my next video is an extended look back at Arkham Horror second edition. Working on it now.
Small apologies, the long format ah2 video will come soonish, but i've expanded its scope. So it will take a bit longer to so.
Love the game just hoping it’s not DOA not even an announcement of expansion yet
Wow that does look very different from second ed
Very much so. It's a huge change for a new edition.
Do you have an eldritch horror video? If not how do they differ?
I don't. But in short, the mythos cup is very different to the mythos cards system. The placing of doom and warding it is more mechanical, and there's nothing like the expedition deck.
that said 90 percent the same game.
Have you done Coma Ward yet?
No. No plans to in the near future either. I didn't back it, and i'm not sure I know anyone who did
Let's say I play alone, with 2 characters. When is it game over? When I've killed off all 12 characters, if that happens before I get too much doom on the card? The rules are a bit fuzzy. Because getting both my characters killed before getting a replacement on the board seems difficult. Surely most scenarios can be brute forced if I just bash it long enough with enough bodies?
302.2 Losing the game typically happens because too much doom accrues on the board causing doom to be
placed on the scenario sheet, which causes the cards in the codex to progress negatively.
302.3 The players also lose the game if every investigator available to the players is defeated, devoured, or
retired. If there are no remaining investigators for the players to play as, they lose the game
So the rules seem pretty clear. Doom on the scenario sheet or running out of characters.
444.6b When you are defeated, disengage all monsters, exhaust them, discard all of your cards and tokens, and return your investigator sheet and investigator token to the box. Then place one doom on the scenario sheet.
Losing all your characters is going to add a lot of doom to the sheet. I'd say brute forceing doesn't look appealing because of that
@@3MBG Ah so technically it's allowed to play with as many characters as you want until the amount of doom makes you auto-fail. That seems fair, if not unlikely to happen quite rarely :)
Thanks for responding, I have the game set up on my table and ready for round 1 but I've been too intimidated by the rules xD
So... what are the biggest differences between this and Eldritch Horror?

One isn’t a pandemic wannabe and the other is.
Can you do Arkham Horror: the card game? Please :)
I'm planning on doing that, and Mansions of Madness later this year.
@@3MBG Can you do Arkham Horror 1st edition, the one and original by Chaosium from 1987?
@@ソルグル i'll be talking about the original in my next vid. But I haven't played it in 20 years and dont own a copy
@@3MBG That's nice to hear! With the release of this 3rd edition, people made many comparisons, but for some weird reason, they all just ignore the original 1st edition, which is kind of disrespectful, I guess. After all, games like Arkham Horror 2nd edition, Arkham Horror: The Card Game, Eldritch Horror, Mansions of Madness, Elder Sign, and many more seemingly unrelated titles wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for Mr. Launius and his ideas from 32 years ago. BTW, 1st edition is still my all-time favourite of them all!
Yeah, i guess its the fact most people haven't played it. I was lucky enough to have, but many wouldn't.
I do like that FFG have ept Richards name on the design credits for 3rd ed though
I really wanted to like this game but it fell flat for us. It felt like we was constantly running through the systems rinsing and repeating obvious moves, the game evoked nothing of the intrigue and interest we find in the card game.
I agree, but I mostly think it's because the difficulty of the game is over-tuned especially with larger numbers of players in a way that means you end up getting played by it rather than the other way around. It's relatively easy to rebalance with a houserule or two such as letting investigators attack twice or including one extra positive/blank mythos token in the cup and this goes a long way in restoring player agency.
Any plans on making Star Wars: Rebellion in 3 min?
Yes! I am planning on doing that and at least one other Star Wars themed game just before the release of Star Wars Episode 9
A dreadful, dreadful reboot. I'll stick with my trusty 2e.
My next vid is gonna be a longer format look back at AH2e, which is a game i've played hundreds of times.
AH3 didn't win me over either.
Small apologies, the long format ah2 video will come soonish, but i've expanded its scope. So it will take a bit longer to so.
@@3MBG what was your take on Eldritch?
Doesn't look great.
@@phantom7986 Short version. I preferred AH 2e because i felt i had more control over my characters. The clue system in AH 2 allowed for a "push your luck" aspect to the game of spending clues and the sliders allowed you to prepare for challenges. Whereas i found EH more "reveal a card, roll 2-3 dice with no rerolls and hope you get lucky". note - i got rid of it before they introduced the focus action.
