I've played this game exactly once. I misread my objectives when it was "Make it back to Earth or be the only one to survive," as "Make it back to Earth AND be the only one to survive." Everyone was not happy when I tossed a grenade into the room they were all trying to fight the queen in.
Hahahaha, classic. We had someone do much the same thing on their first game. Only it involved closing all the doors so people couldn't escape the queen.
By my understanding, most of the tension in this game comes not from the aliens, but from the fact that you're never sure what your crewmates are planning.
Last game I played of this was exciting as hell. I (P1) had the objective of getting the ship to Mars, which we were on track for. P2's objective was to blow up the ship but there wasn't time left in the game to do that so he was trying to make it to the escape pods. He made it to first escape pod access room, fought off an alien, and as soon as he killed it, the event card launched the pod he was about to get in to. Wonderful, I thought. I manage to *just* evade a hybrid and make it in to cryo, I'm on track to win my objective. P2 is only one left in play and is desperately making his way to the second escape pod and as soon as he makes it, the event card causes all fire-adjacent rooms to break, resulting in too many broken rooms in the ship, and the ship is destroyed just before he could make it in to the escape pod. He was so close to winning, then I was so close to winning, then he was so close to snatching it back again, only for us both to perish at the last possible moment. Excellent game 10/10.
You only have to play it cooperatively long enough until you don't. That's the fun of it. One time my friend sent my other friend and me sprawling into space on the second turn and won their mission immediately and left the ship and won the game. It was as close to a flawless victory as possible. Another time I played as the scientist and hauled ass through the ship collecting eggs and completing my mission. I yeeted through a room with an adult xenomorph and the next room with a queen and made it through untouched. I won my mission without cooperating for basically the second half of the game and just going as fast as possible. It's the exact correct amount of teamwork and is very realistic.
Excellent summary! I love this game but i don’t want new players to feel they have to sit through a 50 minute rule explanation, whether my own or on TH-cam. I highly recommend this intro to a first-time player joining veteran players. Then decide if you want to invest 50 minutes to really understand the strategies and twist, or just show up and learn through your mistakes.
Why would you go through strategy stuff though , I just picked this game up for a bargain and I’m gonna head in blind and absolutely learn the ropes from my mistakes on forward!
@SimonRobeyns This was probably a major reason why l loved the game so much. Without much board game experience I was thrown into the game and the theme really plays well for someone who has no idea what they are doing. After all, your character is likely a passenger with little or no knowledge of the ship. Though, it is helpful to understand the inner rooms are bonus rooms, the perimeter is for completing your objective.
@@jshoneycutt2012 I tried it yesterday, but we didn't have enough time to go through everything in 2 hours. @, I use 6 small bits trays for the various markers and tokens The aliens I keep in the box on a seat near the table - I like to make a big deal out of pulling an alien from the box. I am looking for a 3x2 card organizer for the game’s cards (event, intruder attack…). I’m fortunate our dining room table is nearly 4’ wide and over 6’ long. Having 10” from the side of the board to the side of the table is rather minimum for the player board and pieces. Make sure everyone is on the same page that the first time you are playing to lose.
I was playing a game with friends, and it was going fine, I was completing my objective (bring the ship to earth) and my friend said he already changed it, next thing I know I'm checking the coordinates because I know him too well, summon the queen, then all doors around me lock. Pretty funny but frustrating
Honestly i got the rules taught in 20 minutes. 50 is when you yourself have not really done your due diligence and played it. The most complicated part is the alien interaction which can be summed up as alien attacks draw a card check symbol resolve if symbol. You do dmg to alien it has x wounds, pull a card and see if the number = wound # if so its dead.

I have NO ideas what wave I was in, other than the one that took forever lol. I'd actually forgotten all about this...been on a video game kick again, and haven't been doing much board gaming or purchasing. I still have a pile of stuff to get to from before. When I got the "package arriving" notice from UPS, I didn't even bother the check, but I was curious since I haven't ordered anything recently. When I saw the box, and the word "Nemesis"...it actually took a second to register :). Now I have to clear off some table space so I can start opening all those boxes lol.
@@madddog6790 I believe that people could split the shipping, and get the core game at one point (wave 1), and the expansions later (wave 2). Or get it all together when the expansions were done (wave 2 combined). Which at the time people thought wouldn't be a big deal. But because the expansions took a year extra, it's made a lot a people pissed off.

Yes and no. Yes, they are fun, especially the extra characters and the other enemy types. No, they are not worth what the aftermarket is gouging people for them. (Unless you're loaded and money isn't an issue)
@@3MBG Thank you so much for the prompt response! My friends and I really want to get this game, but we were unsure if getting the expansions would be worth the extra money on top of it already being overpriced. If you had to pick only 3 expansions, which would it be and why?
The one with the extra characters, i think most of the expansion characters are more interesting than the core ones. And that expansion also comes with an upgrade card for each of the core characters too
At the moment, its only coming out to kickstarter backers. But a retail version will be out early next year. Not sure exactly when, but Feb/March likely. All of this publishers games do that. Kickstarter to backers then retail.
3 Minute Board Games They announced all-in packages today. And the backers and funds raised spiked significantly. It’s looking increasingly like the stretch goals are going to include two additional campaigns. They’ve added some really cool “add-on” content as well.
Yeah, it looks mighty. I never back anything though without a fair bit of research into it. And i've just been so busy that I haven't had time to evaluate it all. The new campaign add-ons as well. All i can think is, if i dont like it, i doubt ill have trouble selling it on.
@@3MBG With the current clamor, I'm sure that's true. There is currently a ratings war going on over at boardgamegeek.com. People giving it a 10 even though they haven't played it and people giving it a 1 in protest to the 10s. It's comical and a little sad. Come on guys, you have better things to do.
Lol, rating wars are the weirdest. I don't get the people who backed it and immediately give it a ten. But I also dont get the "balance crusaders" either.
@@3MBG I could understand if they werent able to massproduce it too often but why not just do it on demand via retailers? I just wish they'd explain better the why of this decisions. Maybe lack of factory for the molds or something but instead its just silence on that regard. The worst part is they dont allow the modder to add the rest of the content on his nemesis mod in tts which is even more backward, since you cant buy them anyway. Unless they actually are planning to release the rest, but again: Why no communication? getting some bad vibes about the creators :/ Sorry for the rant
I suspect its more to keep their kickstarter exclusives hyped more than anything. Get it now, or else! I think some KS exclusive stuff is ok, but the big expansions do add a bunch and it sucks that they won't be available, so i agree.
I think I'd love Nemesis, but I know my wife is going to be turned off by the sci-fi horror theme. Is there something similar that might appeal to her as well?
Most traitor games like this are sci-fi horror oddly enough, dead of winter, battlestar galactica, stationfall & Dark Moon. Honestly struggling to think of somethign even remote like this but not sci fi. Shadows over camelot?
so, are you looking for a semi-cooperative game without horror and sci-fi elements? Then i recommend Mistborn House Wars(4-5 people is the sweetspot tho, and also playable with 3 even tho not that good). It's a simple (rule-wise) game with a lot of depth, betrayal, and alliences going on. It's not like nemesis in the sense that you explore, get items, kill people etc its all about negotiation, making deals and betraying people It's a fun game if you are looking for semi-coop like this, but other than that its pretty different. If you can go more in-depth about what kind of game you are looking for i might be able to recommend better suited games
@@Ouryuu-Zenokun Thank you for taking the time to share your recommendation. I'm not familiar with Mistborn House Wars. I'll check it out. Do answer your question, I like the idea of different objectives and not being being able to trust everyone's intentions. I also like the exploration element, but that's more of a bonus. That said, I've played Betrayal House on the Hill and really didn't like it as it felt unbalanced in the final phase. Thanks again!
@@johnelstad Ah yeah, I gotta agree with Betrayal. Some of the killers are horribly unbalanced, mostly came across weaker ones than strong ones but yeah. I just recommended Mistborn because it's a semi-coop game, but not necessarily with hidden objectives. It's just that you have to work together to solve problems, but only one player can win, and there are many ways to mess with deals etc. So it might not be what you are looking for. Different objectives and not being able to trust anyone's intentions is a common theme in social deduction games (The Resistance, Avalon, and Secret Hitler come to mind) but they are more of a well, deduction game than co-op. They also require more players on average than most board games (like 5 to 10...) Dead of winter kinda does this, but it usually feels more like a pvp game where everyone is trying to do their own objective with many short-term alliences. Not that I have any problem with it, but its a valid complaint Nemesis kind of an unique game in this regard. Where it's co-op with the risk of people betraying you. I don't think i know any direct alternatives, but if you want the tension of trying to figure out who is a traitor and who you can trust, social deduction games/hidden traitor games might be what you are looking for. But it's less "I am working together with people that MIGHT backstab me" and more of a "I know that some of these people are traitors, and i gotta figure out who those people are" sorry for the long text but i hope i was able to be helpful :>

Figures come painted in the box?
If you got the Kickstarter pre-painted or pre-shaded versions. I think the retail one will be unpainted.
When is it coming out on retail?
Soonish? Not 100 percent sure, but it cant be far away.
Here we are 4 months later still not knowing 🤣
Another awesome video. You got it goin on. I’m very impressed so far with Awaken Realms. Was part of the Kickstarter for Lords of Hellas and am loving the game. Didn’t go for this one, however. But man...Tainted Grail is looking pretty amazing. I just can’t do another $250+ Kickstarter 😇
I backed tainted grail. Awaken realms are 3 from 3 for me. Although i'm not getting everything, just the game play stuff. Still, not cheap
Let the terror begin.....
If you think about it this game is what you get if Zombicide and Alien Fate of the Nostromo had a baby
Nah, its a lot less gonzo than Zombicide for sure. More like Alien if there were about 6 aliens instead.
@@3MBG yeah you're right also correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge you haven't covered Alien fate of the Nostromo yet so it would be cool if you did
Not at this stage no, not even seen it in NZ yet
Tracking down a copy of Battlestar Galactica isn't cheap. I've seen the game sell anywhere from $75 to $300... and higher. By the way, great video, thank you.
it was certainly a lot cheaper in 2018 when i made this video. I paid more than $75 for it in the store in 2009, so that doesn't seem so bad to me.
Unfathomable is reskin of Galactica in cthulu universe
Anyone know if the expansions are worth burning a wallet for?
And that expansion also comes with an upgrade card for each of the core characters too
How do I get this game?!
At the moment, its only coming out to kickstarter backers. But a retail version will be out early next year. Not sure exactly when, but Feb/March likely.
All of this publishers games do that. Kickstarter to backers then retail.
i made an unboxing movie of this great game (CE + Early Backers edition)
Dont forget the $165 price tag on the game too.
Pricey. I borrowed my friends copy for the review, had no idea what it cost but he went ALL IN on the KS campaign.
$210 on Amazon right now! :/
I take it this means AR is 3 for 3. You backed Tainted Grail yet? ;-)
I've been meaning to watch all the content for it, will this weekend. But lets just say 90 percent sure i'm backing it right now.
Im extremly disappointed that the expansions are kickstarter only.
I have to pass and just play it on TTS then
Yeah, strange call by the company to turn down lots and lots of money from people. People will want the expansions.
Unless they actually are planning to release the rest, but again: Why no communication?
getting some bad vibes about the creators :/
Sorry for the rant
It's not like nemesis in the sense that you explore, get items, kill people etc its all about negotiation, making deals and betraying people
It's a fun game if you are looking for semi-coop like this, but other than that its pretty different.
They also require more players on average than most board games (like 5 to 10...)
Dead of winter kinda does this, but it usually feels more like a pvp game where everyone is trying to do their own objective with many short-term alliences. Not that I have any problem with it, but its a valid complaint
Nemesis kind of an unique game in this regard. Where it's co-op with the risk of people betraying you. I don't think i know any direct alternatives, but if you want the tension of trying to figure out who is a traitor and who you can trust, social deduction games/hidden traitor games might be what you are looking for. But it's less "I am working together with people that MIGHT backstab me" and more of a "I know that some of these people are traitors, and i gotta figure out who those people are"
sorry for the long text but i hope i was able to be helpful :>
Unfathomable
it got expansion with cats
Wait a minute... This isn't re3
