I have watched a lot of Gelli plate artists and was wondering why they’re doing it tbh then I saw your work and I loved it this is me and what I would like to achieve I’m new at this. Thank you for this at last a GELLI plate ARTIST!! will subscribe 🤩
You did it again, Birgit! Being a lazy crafter, I like this technique so much more than pulling layer after layer. Thank you for always making such great videos!
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much for clearly explaining the process. I have a long weekend starting today and this will be my art playtime favorite to start with!❤
I am a lifelong painter and printmaker. I have recently been working with the Gelli plate and acrylic paint getting great results ( with all kinds of papers, mixed media methods etc.). I have studied your video thinking it would be a good place to start with my students ( with premade stamps and minimal process). I have tried your method several times with zero pickup results! The fluid acrylics seem to simply be staining the Gelli plate - nothing more. The transparent mixing white is not picking them up. I have tried different papers with no results. In studying other artists who work with the Gelli plate ( artists who talk to the viewer) I get excellent results with no problems. Btw, I use Golden paints and quality papers. My plates are all Gelli brand. Please advise how to go about achieving success with your method and materials. Thank you, Lynn
Hi Birgit, OMG this is stunning, I will need to try this, you make it look so easy, what a fabulous background you have created here, I absolutely love it !! Lots of love from Patricia xx
Instead of adding the third color by brayering from paint on paper, I would get a second plate going in place of the paper. It could be even just the 6 inch square or round, but then... more prints!
Wow these are beautiful creation. I just got back from a workshop on this art form I've learned some of the basic but wasn't overly inspired until I see this video wow. What do you do with some of the finished products
I learned so much from this video! I didn’t know that a thin coat and immediate pull at the end is the thing to do. I do wish you would show paint colors/brands. I’m a newbie and am trying to build my stash. Color is important to me and when I see something used that I like I’d like to be able to buy it. I’m sure you guys understand that.
Can you use normal background stamps instead of texture plates as long they are not alpha or numbers ?.....and I presume drop them into water straight away....I am still learning ....love it...
Great technique, but I'm wondering why not do this straight on to the paper - without using the plate? Think I'll try doing both versions & see what the difference is. Must admit, though, that the using the plate is probably more fun, as you're never quite sure what the outcome will be :)
whats the difference with using that mixing white? I never realize it can be used for something different and love it now I seen this but was just wondering so I can better apply it too
What's the transparency level of the paint you're using & should they vary in level of transparency. Some are more trans than others. Recommend a specific brand? Thanks!
Hallo Birgit, kannst du mir bitte sagen, woher die Gummiplatten sind.ich suche schon überall danach. Aus den USA ist es zu teuer, da Zuviel Zoll dazu kommt. Vielen Dank für das super Video Birgid
Very nice. I bought a small 5x7 plate to try and loved it so much that I got a 12x12 one! So addictive! Do you have a tutorial on how you made the stamps you used?
Yes, you can, just experiment a little with different brands/types on how much you need and how fast they dry. I had really good results with matte mediums. Have fun! and thank you :)
Yvonne there are specialty paints just for fabric. This paint would make the fabric too stiff. I tried the fabric paint and still found it to be a little stiff but would work ok on a quilt which is generally what I’d use it for.
Fantastic! I want to try this technique on fabric. If I use a fabric paint or add a fabric medium to the fluid acrylics, can I use it on fabric? My mind is buzzing with ideas. Thank you for sharing all these wonderful techniques.
If you don't have any 'mixing white' and don't want to use just a regular white acrylic is there anything else you could use to lift the print? Some sort of clear gel? Airbrush medium? Anything?
This looked very interesting to try. I went through the process but when it came time to lift the print with the paper, only patches released from the Gelli Pad and the remainder stayed on the pad, so it was an epic fail :) Do you know why this might have happened? I had a base layer of rolled on colour, then stamps and stencils in various colours on top of that. It dried between some of the colour applications, and it was dry when I added the transparent mixing white. Thanks for any assistance!
What I've learned is acrylic dry quickly you have to work with them in a timely fashion that might have been part of your problem the acrylic dry before you made the print
Jona Wiersma I’m not sure why you’d do that, unless your goal is to decorate your gelli plate instead if end up with a print on paper? Am I missing something?
Posca pen's are good. You get them in different nib sizes and colours. My ultimate favourite for adding details on a finished print is Signo hybrid white gel pen. It really shows up as not all white pens do.
I tried this technique multiple times and I can’t seem to get a full print. Only about half of my paint comes up. I used white acrylic paint in a thin layer. I didn’t using mixing white. Is that why? Please help! Thanks!
I have the same problem, and I did buy mixing white and it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm wondering if it's the paper I'm using. I tend to use mixed media paper, but thought it might be too thick and too textured for this method. I don't mind having some white areas left on my paper, but it certainly doesn't look like Birgit's.
Same problem. I followed the video and directions precisely, and all I got were a few wispy areas that came off onto the paper. 95% was left on the gelli plate, which I finally had to wash off. A huge waste of my acrylics, I did use sandwich paper squares paper, which are thinner than other paper. But I'm seeing some posts which used thicker paper, and it failed for them, too .
This has been the best video techs for Gelli plattes I've seen so far. Thank you you just helped me not quit 😂.
I have watched a lot of Gelli plate artists and was wondering why they’re doing it tbh then I saw your work and I loved it this is me and what I would like to achieve I’m new at this. Thank you for this at last a GELLI plate ARTIST!! will subscribe 🤩
You're the Mistress of the Gelli Plate! I love your work. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
I thought it was going to be too much, too busy...but wrong, this is gorgeous!! Thank you.
I can't wait to try this. Ooh can imagine copying the gelli print onto address labels and using them as stickers. Soo many possibilities.
Enjoy! :)
Did you use the "pouring matte med for the final pull? Great video...the best!
I love my gelli plate & I will be trying this with my friend this weekend. Birgit, I just love what you produce - thanks x
Thank you so much!

That exact same though dawned on me. So I now just make a design straight on the paper often.
WOW! Just WOW!
Wonderful, as always. TY!
Thankyou! This has truly helped me 😊
These are just stunning. I definitely want to try this out.
OMG this is just wonderful
Very cool. I would love to see how you make your stamps.
Gorgeous!! I love this technique!
Gorgeous print!
So pretty..What kind of paper can u use for this?
Love it❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ Awesome technique!!!!
Amazing!
Beautiful, as always. :)
Thank you!
whats the difference with using that mixing white? I never realize it can be used for something different and love it now I seen this but was just wondering so I can better apply it too

Awesomeness!! Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful
Outstanding!!
That is fantastic I gotta try that thank you 😊
beautiful!
Gorgeous!!
What is the advantage to using the plate instead of creating it directly on the paper?
Very nice
Yummy print!!
Great technique
Thank you!
Wow........what more can I say ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💙💙💙💚💜
Thanks so much for this! Your work is beautiful!!! I’m going to try this on watercolor paper and wondering if I should gesso first. Off to experiment!
Wonderful!
Great video! subscribed 🙂
Beautiful!! Do you let the paint dry before adding another color?☺️
Hallo Birgit, kannst du mir bitte sagen, woher die Gummiplatten sind.ich suche schon überall danach. Aus den USA ist es zu teuer, da Zuviel Zoll dazu kommt.
Vielen Dank für das super Video
Birgid
What do you do with the print after.
So if I used a stencil with writing would I need to do it mirrored so that it would appear correctly with this technique?
Have you tried this with cotton/muslin fabric? I want to make my own fabric to make bags and purses.
Very nice. I bought a small 5x7 plate to try and loved it so much that I got a 12x12 one! So addictive! Do you have a tutorial on how you made the stamps you used?
Very informative, thank you!
beautiful
Thank you for this tutorial, can you please let me know where to get the circles foam stamp? It's gorgeous! :)
I'm wondering instead of white paint, can you use a gel medium?
Yes, you can, just experiment a little with different brands/types on how much you need and how fast they dry. I had really good results with matte mediums. Have fun! and thank you :)
Wow! Amazing. I want to try this for a ready made journal background ❤
Will this work if you use thick card stock and canvas roll as opposed to paper? thanks
if you do your final layer thin on your gelli plate that has layers of dried leftovers, will it pull all those great colors off ?
Can you use the same technique with fabric as well?
@Deborah Morrisey • I would like to know about applying this to fabric also. Did you ever find out?
Yvonne there are specialty paints just for fabric. This paint would make the fabric too stiff. I tried the fabric paint and still found it to be a little stiff but would work ok on a quilt which is generally what I’d use it for.
Yvonne try On point quilting with Nancy. She does a lot of fabric painting. You can find her on you tube.
Fantastic! I want to try this technique on fabric. If I use a fabric paint or add a fabric medium to the fluid acrylics, can I use it on fabric? My mind is buzzing with ideas. Thank you for sharing all these wonderful techniques.
You should be able to, Wanda.
Thank you, Judy Shea. I'm planning to try. :)
Beautiful!! Did I understand correctly, Birgit, that you can use any acrylic as last layer?
Yes, you can, just experiment a little on how much and how fast they dry. Have fun! and thank you :)
How long do you let it dry? Is it so that you can touch the plate without anything comming off?
If you don't have any 'mixing white' and don't want to use just a regular white acrylic is there anything else you could use to lift the print?
Some sort of clear gel?
Airbrush medium?
Anything?
Fran OnTheEdge I believe you can use a gel medium. Hope this helps!
@@normaclark1699 thank you for that.

Beautiful!! Wanna give that a try. Can you dry the paint on the gelliplate with a heat gun?
Jona Wiersma I’m not sure why you’d do that, unless your goal is to decorate your gelli plate instead if end up with a print on paper? Am I missing something?
No, do not use a heat gun to dry your Gelli plate. Hope this helps!
Way cool TFS
Thanks!
awesome
Awesome
Love it ❤️🧡💛💚
What kind of pen could you use to write on top of your finished print?
Posca pen's are good. You get them in different nib sizes and colours. My ultimate favourite for adding details on a finished print is Signo hybrid white gel pen. It really shows up as not all white pens do.
BRAVO!!!

Mine comes off blotchy too, some paint sticks to the gel and won't peel off
. I can't understand how to do it like this video.
Same problem. I followed the video and directions precisely, and all I got were a few wispy areas that came off onto the paper. 95% was left on the gelli plate, which I finally had to wash off. Wowza
I'm trying this! :-)
