I went there in 1975 on a summer school field trip when I was ten years old. Mary Lou showed us around, and told us all about her father. Only one small part of the castle had air conditioning, the part she actually lived in. One of my classmates asked her how she could survive without a swimming pool. She told him he should maybe reconsider his values.
I hope and pray someone can restore it. It is an amazing place. The man who built it was very clever. Please, someone stop the foundation. They probably want to destroy it so they can build something really stupid there. Please respect Arizona's historic treasures and restore this gem!!!
In utah, we have similar places bought by the city and turned into public parks. Publicly maintained for everyone to enjoy as a part of our history. They're the best parks in Utah. If we can save Hobbitville, Arizona can save this
Sadly these buildings lack funding to maintain them so they end up becoming derelict and a liability to the local government and owner. People need to learn to let go.
It's always the people who don't own it that want to save it... the mind your own business thing apparently stops when something gets old and someone else can see it? Oh, it's been here for awhile, must be important, let's save it. No. Let the owner do whatever they want with it. It's not yours. You want your own castle? Build your own castle.
It was given to the trust for preservation in like 1990, the trust has collected alot of money over the years but pocketed it all instead of putting anything into the building for over 30years. Now the trust wants to demolish it to sell the land to a developer to pocket even more money.
@@IanWilkinson-c4bwell then it's time for the government to close the trust and tear it down with the leftover money. With most of these so-called trusts these properties become a liability for the local government.
It would be so sad if it was destroyed.
Foundation overseers should be investigated
I love how we dont bother to take care of the things we have so they just end up destroyed. Around and round it goes.

Went there to fix his TV, he had a Montgomery WARDS TV.
Shame on them if they let this go!
It's trash, it should be torn down, the owner is gone and some people will continue to trash it, it's not going to pay for itself!
I’m a 56 year old Phoenix native and never heard of this place. I swear I somehow ended up here from a parallel universe Phoenix.
That looks so neat. I would like to come see it in person. I hope somebody buys it and fixes it up. They can document their process on TH-cam.
Make it a dang tourist attraction dang it. Do weird ghost tours there or something idk
I will pay to go in there
Never heard of the hip historian 😅😅😅
Likely TOO hip 'fer You !😉😁👊👊 (jus' kiddin' !)
Hell, he’s too hip for himself. 😂
There should be an equation about how many recreational options a populated area needs per capita.

Whoever wants to demolish the castle needs to move out of Arizona
Looks like a movie set
Demolition by neglect. It's a landmark. Shameful.
0:36 😆 Excellent guy to interview!! From that point I got interested in this video about an odd looking American castle.

Land mark?
Dangerous pile of trash.
Agreed. Sadly to maintain these buildings it requires taxpayer money. People need to learn to let go.
