Still a cool looking bike. We had an original 1969 Trail 70 and rode that thing till the wheels fell off. Ours was orange.

I've got 2 of these bikes, one is a 125 symoto almost new, the other is a zhenhua11 years old, been well used and its better made. The chrome is not bad and there's no rust like on yours. I agree about the fixings must be checked, plus the cables should be oiled and bolts like wheel spindles and swinging arm should be greased. Your chain has stretched because you haven't oiled it. I can see the brown rust on it. The foot peg is bent, probably were your son has hit it, that would explain the missing rubber. There great bikes and very cheap to replace parts. 👍😎

I was riding the real Honda 70s back when they were new and loved them. Sounds like for just basic riding around this would be okay as long as you go over the whole bike and Loctite everything like you said to make sure nothing falls off, lol. I was looking for a used genuine Honda 70 but the prices are high for one in nice condition. Thanks for the video.

Mine will be 20 years old next year, I replaced the original jincheng engine with a Lifan, that did 14000 miles I only changed oil 3/4 times I wanted to kill it,,, could not bearings worn vibration crazy, but it still ran, put new spare engine in it, and replaced front and rear forks, but done well, bought in 2008 in UK for £375

Been thinking of getting one just because they are cheap but it’s good to know what I’ll need to look at before I do get one. Good video!

I would do a monthly inspection checking bolts, linkage of the brakes, headlights running lights blinkers. And oil the chain. An oiled chain will last a whole lot longer than one that isn't oiled. I don't think he ever oiled at chain. When replacing nuts if possible use lock nuts. Lastly change the oil early on to full synthetic. Do all this and I'm guessing you will see many years of enjoyment out of your bike. If all he said was true and it's made this cheaply at some point be prepared for wheel bearing failure. If you don't do this on your own it still shouldn't cost to much to repair. One more thing all he wound have to do for that loose chain is loosen the tighteners remove the master link and with a chain breaker remove one link. Keeping the chain oiled will greatly extend the life of the sprockets too. Keeping the chain oiled is a must no matter what make it is. I owned a Honda 70 Tail Bike about 1970 it would do about 50 mph with the wind at your back. It was a lot of fun to drive on or off trail.

I think as a starter bike for someone who can not fork out $3500 for a nice CT70 the price is rite. As you explained all your issues seem to be cross overs from Jincheng-American Lifan-Champion-Ice Bear-Red Cat-Pister Pro. over the last 20 years are almost built the same way. engine CC maybe higher or lower but quality is very poor. I have had all of the above models I bought as they came out just to see quality and sell them. I am a true blue Honda mini Trail collector and restorer.. Poor quality chrome, odometer issues, carb problems.Rubber turn signals break in two after a couple years, Clutch cable issues, poor quality fuel lines, different weld styles, leaky petcocks and there is more. But if a person takes care of the bike, drain fuel when not used follows maintenance guidelines these can last for years with a lot of fun times. Some states will not allow some of these models because EPA issues Get what you pay for

I myself would take a link or two out of the chain, lube it and use it. Once it stretches from new it would probably be fine.

Honda will start selling DAX 125cc in the U.S. in 2025. Price is estimated to be around $4,500 but dealers will add huge markups to that price.

Have you found a source for lock nuts with the nylon lock threads? Lok Tite works but I found you have to let it sit for 24 hours to set up.

If you really want to mess with people, put Icebear sticker on Real Honda, or my favorite,Yamaha Star emblems on Harley..good test of ego! Many people don't ride these knock-offs enough to have some of these issues; they just get them because they want(or don't have) to spend $1500 new or $800 used, and have electric start & disc brakes. Not $2500-5000 for nice used authentic ones. Probably not real concerned about collecting them or re-sale price. Just go through the bolts with loc-tite, and oil the chain!

I have put 700 hard off-road miles on mine and it runs great, just keep changing that oil. It does take a lot of maintenance because it's made out of China metal so things break and bend. Also, the stock exhaust and carb really choke her up.

It would be cool to swap a CRF110 onto it. And change that swingarm out for a real ct70 swngarm. I’ve been tempted to buy one for a while now

I started riding motorcycles on a ct 70 it was a 4 speed with a clutch I also had one that had the 3 speed auto clutch what do these bikes have? I was looking at these just to get around the area on not really long trips. I'm not afraid working on then but it's good you pointed out what gets loose easily.

Wow! Looks are deceiving! After hearing the laundry list of stuff that honestly needed to be replaced or modifie, I would go for something that's not as cool to look at but is put together better. That's just me. I don't have the time, patience, or place to make all those changes to get the bike where it needs to be. I'm surprised Honda or another manufacturer hasn't produced a retro style mini-bike like the CT 70 in the past few years. There are a few, but they lack the retro styling us late boomers love.

Honda did come out with a new Dax 125 it’s the same engine as the Grom, Monkey, Trail 125. They just haven’t brought it to the states. It’s available in the UK though.

Subbed !! What front fender is that ? Did you do anything to the front forks ? Mine are like rocks and don't move / compress very easy !

    • @71455olds
      @71455olds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Stock front fender had to drill holes to raise it and add spacers then trim off the back about an inch to clear the engine (could have mounted more forward but did not like the look) and of course cut off the mounts on the side. From forks are fine in fact a lot soft. I would change the fluid apparently there is no quality control on adding the correct amount.of fluid

I think the footpegs are on a bolted on bar so they could be replaced. Yeah, the bike needs loctite and some TLC. Honda didnt offer the DAX here in the U.S. and the price would be double of this.
