I wish those side dismounts would come back in vogue, they always looked cool. Thank you for utilizing a video of the triple twist featuring someone who actually COMPLETES all three twists!
Its in the Code of Points, which you can download off the FIG website in the rules section, the Code describes the skill and categorizes each skill under a letter which corresponds to the difficulty.
the gainer layout dismount is actually very difficult because you can easily hit the end of the beam. If it is easy, then why doesn't everyone do it in their routines?
1:26 isn't actually a gainer. It's actually just a cartwheel, then a full twist layout. She uses both feet to push off the beam to go into the full twist.
@rubberbandgurl320 I think MostepanovaFan is glad to help but I think a Code of Points is for a quadrennium (i.e. Olympics), so maybe she is going to upload one after London Olympics
its funny, commentators always say the gainer layout off the end of the beam is weak (becuase of lack of twist or additional rotation), but actually you'd get all the bonus for it!
Thanks for this rather enlightening montage. I can't believe that a gainer layout off the end of the beam is the same difficulty as a 2.5 twist. some of these difficulty ratings are just a bit ridiculous. So few athletes today can successfully complete a triple full, but athletes all throughout the 90s were doing full ins. How does it make sense that a full in is a G and a triple is an F? The FIG need to re-think their code
@shannonigan9 Wow that's interesting. They would be dangerous but I thought Hunter could've done a piked double Arabian. I don't remember seeing that skill. I'll have to find it. Podkopayeva off beam...
Hi, it's me again. Thx for all the gym vids u made, it helps me a lot. But can I request for an uneven bars dismount guide? I would love to learn more.
so what is the hardest dismount on all four events in the code right now please let me know thanks,,, p.s i reallt apperciate all the hard work you have done making these videos,,, keep up the good work
I thought that the dismount performed by Korbut was worth a D. It was back in the 2001-04 COP, because it's technically a jump with a full twist into a front tuck.
I just realized, I think Cathy Rigby, the first gymnast, was the announcer when Nadia Comaneci did the first ever perfect 10 bars routine. small world. :)
When Moukhina did the first full in in Laid-out/piked position it was called exactly that...Ekaterina Szabo did the twisting piked vault in 1984 to take the Olympic gold....disputable as Retton's vaults were vastly different as the code of points demanded, but non the less they were twisting piked, I know devil may care hard.
@camjay8 They all have the same difficulty score in the code, but the full twisting double back pike is probably the most difficult out of them. And you see the double arabian more often in competition in the than the other two.
That would be hard to say. Vault probably the Produnova vault, a front handspring double tuck. On bars, definitely the double twisting double layout, the Ray. On beam, I would say full-in pike or double arabian tuck, he Patterson. On floor its hard to say, but its probably, the Silivas, or double-double tucked, or the arabian double layout, the Dos Santos II, or maybe even the full twisting double layout, the Chusovitina. All the skills I listed are G's and the Produnova vault is worth a 7.1
Katelyn Ohashi does a laid out full in, piked back out, now that should get an full "10", it looks amazing and is the most difficult dismount so far in history.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the first dismount really considered a full twist? After replaying a few times I still see the gymnast twisting halfway round and then rotate back the same halfway she just twisted.
Other than Olga's, I've never seen another dismount where you put your hand on the beam to steady yourself. It was obviously allowed then as she wasn't penalised for doing it but when was it banned? Or did it just fade away as the dismounts got harder and putting a hand on the beam would be a deduction? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm just interested to know!
so the full twisting double back is worth more points than a arabian double front? it seems like the arabian double front would be much harder since its a blind landing
I thought that Khorkina did the Code 6.306 in Atlanta Olympics way back 1990++ and that was her original dismount before the Code 6.406 and Code 6.606...
its called a piked full in and is the same dismount as the last one featured in this video the reason the full in is laid out is because you can't really twist is a piked position
It's always bugged me that the 1.5 and double twisting back layouts are both Cs. The 1.5 should be a C, the double a D, and the 2.5 an E. Same goes for the twisting front layouts: single should be a C, 1.5 a D, and double an E or F. As of now, there's little incentive to go for a twisting dismount. Most gymnastic can easily pull off the double back tuck or pick for a D or E, so they don't bother with the 2.5.
I wasnt a gymnastics lover in 2000, cuz well i was kinda young, but shouldnt the double front be named after produnova, cuz ive seen it done before but never in worlds or olympics like produnova has competed it, oh and why did she stop competing her crazy double front vault?
No G! People cheat them enough as it is! ;) (Besides Dudnik and Ji Liya.) The 2.5's just a D, so the FIG probably would think that's too big a jump for a half twist?
well a double arabian they have to twist 1/2 in to a double front out, a double front they just run and punch to a double front but the arbian they have to twist half then do the double front out
They've been doing gainer dismounts since the 70s, it doesn't aapear to be hugely difficult. I don't know what rating it was given in the previous code but maybe gymnasts weren't doing it before because it wasn't rated as very difficult. It just seems so simple compared to a two and a half twist.
It's fine enough to make that statement, but there is nothing to back it up really. I just find it very difficult to believe a simple layout off the end of the beam could be as difficult or as dangerous as a 2.5 twist. Gainer dismounts are not new, and if they were doing them in the 70s how could they possibly be more difficult than something such as a 2.5 twist, something performed by the current AA olympic champion?
It always annoys me how any move done off one foot is considered some form of a gainer. Yeah I get what the term means, but a gainer layout is significantly different for a gainer triple twist, yet is still referred to as a variation of a gainer. I think the originator of each skill should be given credit.
Some of the code scoring seems so inconsistent.... a D for the back salto outstretched?.....it looks so easy....and a G for Pattersons dismount? Yes its hard but come on now!
I wish those side dismounts would come back in vogue, they always looked cool.
Thank you for utilizing a video of the triple twist featuring someone who actually COMPLETES all three twists!
I love all the gainer dismounts- I just think they're all so unique and graceful!
These code guides are brilliant! Please do more.
A running back layout off the end of the beam is very difficult and not to be confused off of a regular gainer layout off the side of the beam.
I did not know pordunova performed her vault on beam too
fun to think, all the balance beams skills are very apreciated and pushed to the limit in martial arts tricking
Its in the Code of Points, which you can download off the FIG website in the rules section, the Code describes the skill and categorizes each skill under a letter which corresponds to the difficulty.
the gainer layout dismount is actually very difficult because you can easily hit the end of the beam. If it is easy, then why doesn't everyone do it in their routines?
the Gienger is a release move from the uneven bars, a gainer salto refers to a back somersault which travels forward
1:26 isn't actually a gainer. It's actually just a cartwheel, then a full twist layout. She uses both feet to push off the beam to go into the full twist.
the music selection is so fitting
She must flyyyyyy
To this day, I still cannot believe that a gainer layout off the end of the beam is a D skill.
Sarah Katherine yes me too. It doesn't worth
@rubberbandgurl320 I think MostepanovaFan is glad to help but I think a Code of Points is for a quadrennium (i.e. Olympics), so maybe she is going to upload one after London Olympics
Thanks for another great Code of Point Video.
2:10
the gainer layout is my favourite :)
I cant believe a gainer layout has the same score as a double tuck. The gainer looks easier to perform...
its funny, commentators always say the gainer layout off the end of the beam is weak (becuase of lack of twist or additional rotation), but actually you'd get all the bonus for it!
i love the patterson and the double front.
It was during warm-ups at the 1988 Olympics

Awesome videos MostepanovaFan. Thanks for all the info. You're great

now it’s a b

Would be cool to see someone to do a double salto dismount with the grigoras approach. (front half into a one-and-a-half back)
@camjay8 They all have the same difficulty score in the code, but the full twisting double back pike is probably the most difficult out of them. And you see the double arabian more often in competition in the than the other two.

the gainer full twist video that you have at 1:26 is actually not a gainer, she takes off from both feet
I do actually have the video of her doing that, but the dismount has been removed from the 2009 Code :( Thankyou though

Thank you this is really wonderful.
Where did Bogi do the tuck back off beam?
Is it possible to do a double layout dismount on beam?
There have been rumors of people training it. I don't think it's likely to be anything we'll see any time soon.
i think the full in pike should be worth more than the full in tuck
so the full twisting double back is worth more points than a arabian double front? it seems like the arabian double front would be much harder since its a blind landing
Loooooooveeee your videos!!

its called a piked full in and is the same dismount as the last one featured in this video
the reason the full in is laid out is because you can't really twist is a piked position
Is a aerial round-off 1/1 the same as a front aerial walkover 1/1?
no
I'm pretty sure that tatiana groshkova was training one but its a shame that no one has ever done it in competition

If you look in the 2009 code you will see that it is 6.705 and a G
has anyone ever done a double layout dismount?
i hope that a full twisting double back pike will become a H skill :) because it is (much) more difficult than tucked, ask Catalina Ponor ;)
@gymnasticslover1231 There's no difference...The layout is a type of salto with stretched body.
@cleicsioluek I was thinking that too. Maybe a double arabian piked as well. H skills.
Anyone ever perform a Double twisting double off the beam??
And now the Biles ( double-double)
how can a double front be an F and a double arabian a G?, i think ys mor difficult a double front
dudniks triple twist!!!!

Only rumours of Armine Barutyan.
I dont think that the double arabian should be a G! It should be F!
wots an arabian...ive always wanted to no lol
