While Scar remains the murderous, vengeful, and evil lion from the Pride Lands in the live action Lion King film just as he was in the original animated and Broadway version, his motivations, origins, and desires have been altered throughout the 2019 film and its novelization. But what are these changes? Through the entirety of this video I’m going to be explaining all that we know on that subject. This is Scar’s new backstory!

I find it ironic that the villain is almost always made by the hero or heroes. Your not born a villain your made into one by the people around you even if they dont directly do anything to you.

And then when these people fed up lash out at us ( modern society) we call them villains for something WE caused. Taka has a dual meaning. It can mean "trash," or it can mean just the opposite; "asked for, wanted."

I think it would be more compelling if Scar was the older sibling, who got passed over because of his lack of strength. At least that way he'd have a legitimate claim to being "the Lion King", instead of just coming off as the weak, bitter, younger brother. 🤷♂️

@@user-mh9dx7nz2r Of course, but it's kind of cliche at this point. And I think it would serve Scar better if he was actually slighted, instead of simply "being jealous of his BIG BRO". Scar being older, but passed up for the throne because of his lack of physical prowess would make for a far more compelling story. Scar wouldn't just be evil for evil's sake, but instead would be jealous because he lost his birthright. So him killing Mufasa wouldn't seem to be only justified by jealousy.

I saw they changed it from getting it as a cub from Mufasa according to the remake (or a water buffalo in the comics) to getting it from a snake. I think they made it more family-friendly because it's a Disney Junior show but then again, TLK creators said TLG is canon so if they said he got it from a snake now, he got it from a snake

I mean his name translate to “trash or dirt” in Swahili and mufasa means “king” I wonder what did they expect to happen in the future after having names that translations literally have meanings that are the exact opposites of each other.
In the original Lion King film we had Scar say this to Mufssa:
"...Well, as far as brains go, I got the lion’s share. But when it comes to brute strength, I’m afraid I’m at the shallow end of the gene pool.”
Now, through most of this, he was looking at his brother which, I thought, implied Mufasa gave him the scar.
I thought that maybe scar got his scar from that fight from mufasa when he challenged him the fist time

Hey Issac I really really don’t mean to sound forceful or anything but I would really appreciate it if your next video talks about the ramifications of the altered timeline in Cinderella. Mostly your recent Lion King Videos really have me thinking about certain things.
For one thing I’ve never really considered Simba’s pride or The Lion Guard to an extant canon with the original film or even with each other. I think of them being in their own separate realities and timelines much like your explanation for the plotholes and inconsistenties in the second and third Cinderella movies. I really like to believe that much like Marvel and DC Disney has its own multiverse and alternate timelines, given much of the other problems the various sequels and spin offs have. Now one big question I have about the altered timeline in Cinderella 3 is that if we go by the whole idea that all or most other Disney films exist in the same universe is that with the timeline in Cinderella being altered and staying altered what does that say about the timelines in other Disney franchises?
Disney just revealed a sneak peek of the lion guard upcoming season 3 where it's revealed in how scar got his scar on his eye. There was even a male lion with him that kinda looks like a male zira, he could be a relative of zira because omg he really looks similar like zira.
They should've included it in the remake

Taka isn't his name. His birth name in the original series is Askari after the original Lion Guard leader. Hus name means "soldier". This was confirmed by Ford Riley on Twitter. Six New Advantures are not canon. Look up information about Scar and it says this was his name. Plus, I do like most of Scar's backstory in the original, but I think the cobra bite was stupid because Scar should've died from the venom and I think he was always evil, not the venom literally turning people evil. However, I like Scar's backstory in the remake. Much better.

I read the novelization and I enjoyed it more than the original movie. Between Scar's new back story and Nala being more of a character instead of just being a love interest and the new hyenas being a menacing treat instead of just being comic reliefs - too bad that the movie was so dull and boring, if it was animated like the original was it had the potential to be really, really good.

Mufasa and Scar should've had a heart-to-heart long before things dissolved to the point of murder. I really think that if Mufasa had reached out to his brother and extended the olive branch before things turned sour between them, a lot of this could've been avoided. Thankfully, Simba had the chance to correct that mistake with his son-in-law, Kovu.

He immediately lashed out in anger at Scar like an idiot over a simple snide remark and thought it a challenge to his rule. The only other interaction he ever has with Scar was his plea for help before dying. He never once made an attempt to reach out.

@@blackFoSHO319 no, Taka only means 'trash' when the word is repeated twice which is taka-taka. Taka in the context of "want" makes much more sense considering his backstory , scar always desired for things he didnt or couldnt have: to be king, to have Sarabi, to be respected, to be loved.
Update: @Tesynia LaZuri Uhuru kindly helped me understand that takataka actually means trash. Still, I do feel that the origin of scar's jealousy of Mufasa is alot more complex and deserves a deeper analysis.

I believe that Scar and Mufasa were truly the best of friends and promised to always look out for each other until Mufasa was brought to spend more time with Ahadi to learn how to be a great king. Ahadi and scar never really met eye to eye. Scar was disappointed that he could no longer spend all the hours in the day with his brother. Mufasa started to focus on being a great king. Everything was falling into place for Mufasa as he met sarabi. Ahadi was proud of Mufasa. Scar was not only missing his brothers company but he felt that Mufasa had chosen everyone over his other half, over his brother. Ahadi treated Scar differently to Mufasa, he still looked after Scar but he had greater respect for Mufasa. While Ahadi mistreated Scar, Mufasa would stand back and watch because he was just as scared as Scar. Scar finally plucked up the courage to ask Ahadi why he being treated differently and Ahadi gave scar his scar. As Ahadi‘s time had come and Mufasa rose as the new king, Scar had drifted from his brother. Although, they never talked and over time there was deep hatred after Mufasa failed to look out for his brother like they promised. Scar had taken the promise very seriously. Mufasa was aware he had broken that promise and never exiled or disowned Scar as mufasa felt guilty. Mufasa was unaware of the hatred Scar had for his brother now. Scar killed mufasa to show him exactly how it feels to be betrayed and let down by someone you trusted the most

Scar loved Sarabi and wanted her more than the throne...this is what I felt...Moreover, It is possible that the 3rd Cub they showed in the movie is possibly Nuka and the lioness sitting beside Sarabi and Sarafina is Zira...Which could mean 3 of them are sisters and Zira is 2nd Born...so could understand and support scar...
Live-action Scar was wayyy more scary than his animated counterpart. He seemed so unhinged and unpredictable even though he did exactly what he did in the animated movie. I loved it!

I like what they did with Scar's backstory in the 2019 Live Action Lion King. I especially loved the addition of his "relationship" with Sarabi. What I didn't like, is how they changed (and cut In half) his song, which was my favorite song in the original movie. 👀

Well for be prepared, it can't be helped since Scar's and the hyena's character is changed entirely. Scar being more serious and spiteful, while the hyena is depicted to be not dumb anymore, at least Shenzi is since she has that threatening female boss vibe. With the original be prepared first half is all about Scar mocking how dumb the hyena is, before he begins to explain the plan then, the only useable part from the original song is from the "prepared from the coup of the century" onwards and Disney has to fill in the blank for the other half.

Also, he made scar feel neglected and unloved. If he had given scar some attention and love, along with why mufasa becoming king of pride rock was best (not just cause of being first born), then maybe scar might have been more ok with being a prince and even a good uncle for his nephew.

So based on the backstory, Scar was not a born psychopath with brain problems, but family relationships changed him forever
While 'Taka' can mean waste in Swahili, it can also have the meaning 'to want' or 'to wish' for something for the benefit of greed or success, perhaps linking that Scar wanted, or wished to rule pride lands, in an envious and negative way.

It is the parents fault...Can you imagine that if only scar was loved truly in spite of his flaws he won’t feel as an outcast and be so bitter that his own family treat him as a stranger which as an adult make him reject any sign of love that mufasa shows toward him.
Of course nothing that scar did is justified but by understanding his backstory we can get where is he coming from.

If you actually read A Tale of Two Brothers or read about Scar's history (94 or 2019 versions) , you'll see that most of his hatred & jealousy towards Mufasa really comes from their father, Ahadi.*
As for Scar in the 2019 version, I saw the movie last night and I liked how they made his hatred for Mufasa go beyond just being next in line for the throne (after Mufasa dies or Simba) and how they added this new love triangle between Mufasa, Sarabi, & Scar. We all knew that Scar was jealous and (grew to) hate(s) his brother, but now we have another possible clue as to why their relationship isn't so great. You're entitled your opinions and I respect them, but I honestly believe that this makes Scar's backstory more interesting and gives him a greater amount of character development than he already had. It all just made me love Scar as a villain even more.
*I DO wish that they added more about the family history in the new movie, though.

The song undee the sea and the reason mermaids hate humans .means the little mermaid doesn't fit other Disney universe. Especially in the Lion King . Even Though Hans Christine Anderson appeared in the little mermaid series . The only Disney universe I fits with is Narnia
At 1:58, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold it right there, Wotso. As Scar himself once said in the original Lion King movie, "It's the LIONESSES' job to do the hunting!". Technically, even in real life, male lions NEVER hunt! The lionesses do all the work hunting food for the pride, while the male lions play lazy and get first dibs on all the meals! Then the lionesses get whatever's leftover. Hmmm. Some life. If I were an animal, I would NOT want to live in a social order like THAT one, no way Jose!

Good theory but my thoughts on his hard life was well for starters he was named after trash which was strike one to his demise, being the youngest and a little unusual and being left out because mufasa was the favorite and his father never gave him training leaving him week for the lions share that’s strike two luckily his mother loved him that’s my thought, and of course Sarabi she was obviously engaged to mufasa but I bet somewhere along the way she was in love with taka first that’s when Zera comes in she was obsessed with taka and told his father making him angry thinking he’s ruining the pride so as punishment he strikes his own son and renames him Scar and after that he forbade him from ever seeing Serabi so she marries mufasa (and of course a lot of unhappy arrange marriages begin to fall in love with eachother) and that was strike three. Henceforth Scar was now hateful and vengeful even though Zera stood by his side he only wanted one thing, to be King. So that’s some of my theories on poor scar/taka. What do you think?

I think scar might have challenged mufasa when surabie chose mufasa over him as a way to try to prove that he was better and more deserving than mufasa but that’s just what I think

Okay, so here's how canon works:
The original film/series and whatever the production team (especially the directors or producers) decrees is the official canon storyline. This includes any theatrical release sequels or TV spinoffs made by the original team.
Direct-to-video sequels and TV series spinoffs NOT made by the original production team are sub-canon and can at any time be contradicted by canon.
Remakes and adaptations are canon supplemental. Any information they add has to be compliant with established canon or it is not canon itself.
Tie-in novels, books, comics, etc. are supplemental material that can be used to construct an extended universe. They are the lowest tier of canon.
Lower ranking still is fanon; a fanmade idea that has become so popular that almost the entire fandom has adopted it. Fanon sometimes becomes canon if the production team loves the idea and incorporates it.
TLG is canon--to Simba's Pride. It is NOT officially part of the original TLK film canon. However, there is a way it could become such.
The recent photorealistic remake is a rehashing of the canon storyline. Any information it adds to the original film is canon to that film unless contradicted. This includes how Scar got his namesake. So for the moment, his official, canon story is that Mufasa gave him the scar.
*However,* should the team that did the remake also decide to do Simba's Pride, that will make SP top tier canon, which in turn will make TLG an official canon midquel, which will elevate the origin of Scar's scar by snake buddy of Zira's dad (?) above the story of a duel between Mufasa and Scar.
Basically, the remake could de-canonize itself by also remaking the sequel.
Of course, Boma the angry water buffalo gets the short end of the stick in all of this. But then, so do the cobras. Venom doesn't equal villainy, people!

@@gracekim25 not really. it's the money grubbing executives over at disney that make it complicated by pumping out lion king content again and again for a desperate cash-grab. not to say TLG or Simba's Pride are bad! but it doesn't feel like there's much respect towards the original ideas and creators with some elements such as Scar's backstory

Honestly, I enjoyed how the creators expanded Scar’s backstory and showed more interaction with Simba and Scar. I enjoyed this Scar much better personality wise as he seems a bit more characterized than just evil, though I wish his voice actor had a better menacing voice.

The other lions were HYPER ABLELIST AF, Scar wasn't wrong and they deserved what they got, tho Scar didn't. He didn't have any other options beyond giving up what little dignity or love for self he had. No one else was going to give it to him-
Also I stand by the theory had Mufasa had Kiara as his daughter and first born instead of Simba (Simba perhaps being a brother rather than a father-) Mufasa would of lived. Sure it's incest, but they're also LIONS and she'd be super into him & we all know it.
