  • Ever wondered if you had to resin coat your bowls and plates to make them any good? Well this video is for you. This goes over several simple ways one could try to fireproof their turned wooden objects and shows just how good they are over time!
    This is my 8th video I've posted, this is sort of a follow up to earlier videos:
    A video showing how I turned these bowls from 2 x 6 lumber from Home Depot: • Wood Turning Basics - ...
    A video showing how I made a whiskey glass: • Woodturning - Bourbon ...
    I have been slowly making this video and if you like it a like and comment would really help me out. It feels weird knowing that people actually see this but just a random comment really makes an impact. Thank you for watching and reading to this point!
    I hope this is helpful, please leave a comment and if you do this yourself send me your results! Thank you for your support and have a great day!

    I've been wanting to turn some coffee mugs. I like to work with resin epoxy but I would rather use a more natural finish. This is a big help 👍

    Very well done. I liked all
    Of the screens. It sped up the viewing process. Super accurate.
    What brand of wax? Or what is it called in the store? Wood wax?

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just a paste wax, you can find it with the finishes at any home repair type store

    Thank you for a great video! Would you know what type of coating is suitable when dealing with hot liquids, e.g. soups?
    Thank you!

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think I'd recommend something for hot liquids, it just seems like a bad idea. That said if I had to chose a coating it would be plain wood. You shouldn't be letting something hot sit out so water loss isn't as big an issue

    Very very well done video, thank you for this! Complete newbie question: I have a live edge bowl I need to hold water for roughly 1-2 hours at a time. Using something like paste wax which allows a small amount of waterloss, is that going to badly damage/warp the bowl over multiple uses?

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably, the paste wax will still allow water in which should swell then warp the bowl as it dries. You might want a thicker wall and to use something like a poly finish. Good luck Laura!

    So the resin is the best, but how can you use resin it's like a liquid ?
    Or just paint the bowl with multiple coat's? I need this information for flower pots

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Resin (Or even a polyurethane, which is kind of like a thinner resin) would be the best, and can be painted on like a thick paint. Just get a lower viscosity resin (or use polyurethane). Also make sure to have some sort of weep hole in the bottom to stop overwaterring. Good luck and I hope you see this/this helps!

    Which one is best for our health? If we are using the bowl for salat, which one holds up to vinegar? Thanks

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best for health is definitely Mineral Oil. It is a sealer for the wood which is non toxic and unlike a vegetable oil it won't turn rancid after a few months. I don't know how well it will Stan up to vinegars though, sorry. It might help to use a darker wood so the red/black stains from the vinegar go with the grain pattern.
      Hope that helps!

    Hello, I made a wooden tub, but I don't know what is the best material to waterproof it. can you guide me Thankful

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So if by tub you mean a bath tub then I would definitely use an epoxy. Try to find a marine epoxy rated for/with reviews about use in wooden boat hauls. This will be far more damaging then what you're doing, but still make sure to over apply. Multiple coats and just paint it on. I hope this helps and that project sounds amazing!

    Great video. Something I have been looking for since a long time. Solves my problem. I am trying to make a hydroponic planter pot in which water will sit in the pot permanently. I see resin and wax work the best but how did you apply both of them, that is the question. Thank you

    • @AatmanTrivedi
      @AatmanTrivedi 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is for a commercial development so I think epoxy will be not viable because of the cost and operation. What do you think about wax?

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think wax may be fine. It might be good to test it with pine planters first and see the damage over time. My guess is the soil will cause damage over time but if the goal is 6-8 months then wax may be enough protection.

    What can I use to put something on a wood bowl to make a candle out of it to make it Fireproof

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best option is probably char. Most finishes are flammable, but burned wood is pretty resistant. Just turn it thick and pre burn the wood. No guarantees though

  • @dianapina961

    What can I seal a wood bowl with so I can put candle wax in it

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Candle wax is a sealant, so iwould just put the wax in it. Again, note my other comment if you want to make a candle holder

    Ok... which of these chemicals are "food safe?" Hello?

  • @nuthn2do
    @nuthn2do ปีที่แล้ว

    Mineral oil is derived from petroleum. The only oil you should be using is food grade flax/linseed

    What's up with the music over talking? Is this a millennial thing?

    • @MadeByMillennial
      @MadeByMillennial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Personal thing, I tend to like a little background music. My older videos had it louder as I wasn't as good at video editing 😅

    • @desireer6915
      @desireer6915 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think it's bad. People do it all the time. It fills in dead audio spaces throughout the clips when he isn't talking.
