A short and sweet trip today as I took the boat off the end of the Trent & Mersey canal and moored at Sawley. During the trip, I played chicken with a swan, and tried to hold the boat still in a sideways wind.

I live in the US and have absolutely no desire to cruise canals in a tiny, slim boat... and yet, I find this channel so fascinating. Its the combination of excellent narration and a world completely foreign to me. I look forward to each new video and the journey you so graciously invite me to join. At my time of viewing there were four thumbs down for the video, presumably these were from four people who cannot turn in to that marina in that given space or maybe from people who don't like cheese 😂

I'm from Wisconsin, America's Dairy Land, and we are known as cheese heads. We wear cuts of cheese on our heads while watching football (the US kind). Cheese gets our attention.

I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico and love cruising the cut.
David does an amazing job of making it interesting and very relaxing.
How about filming some quick visits into some of the beautiful small towns you go through ?
It would fun to see and learn more about the England you are going through.
Thank you! I only tend to show villages when they're particularly relevant to the canal eg Braunston. Other "British life" stuff is best done by other vlogs than this, I prefer to concentrate on canals and narrowboats.
The plaintive ‘I’m running out of cheese’ was the saddest thing I’ve heard in a while lol. Hope you can get your hands on some dairylea triangles soon.
Nice one David. I would think being on a narrow boat on a river during bad weather could get very hairy. As far as running out of cheese, as far as I'm concerned that is the beginning of the apocalypse.

TH-cam recommended one of your videos to me and I ignored it because I wasn't interested in narrowboats. A few weeks later I had a nightmare where I desperately wanted to go on a narrowboat vacation, but nobody in the world - not even Google - knew what a narrowboat is. Now I have watched like half of your videos and will definitely go on a channel cruise once this bloody pandemic is over.

I took a cheese sandwich to work the other day, here in the USA not a common thing. My co-workers were aghast. (Cheese pizza is a thing though). I picked up the habit of a cheese sandwich when I visited the UK & Ireland years ago. Always will remember a kind YHA host mother in Newcastle fixed me a sack lunch (the same her children got for the school day) for a hike. I’d gotten into town the day before after the shops closed. A frequent dinner while traveling was a cheese sandwich & a Knorr soup. I may add pickle the next time to really shock them.
It is definitely a life-jacket: a buoyancy-aid is a pill that you take to cheer yourself up.

5:20 it appears that most fiberglass boats there don't seem to know the concept of waxing fiberglass! They are all old and crusty gel coat. While you see some of that here, 95% of the fiberglass boats in the US seem to have a good coating of wax and a nice shiny gel coat! I always wax my 40' cruiser each year. It gets a bit tricky as its in the water all the time as well except for a quick haul out for lower unit drive maintenance. Keep up the good videos, enjoy them each time a new one pops up in my feed!

David, you should ask the cheese industry for sponsorship in form of unlimited cheddar supplies. Your hypnotically soothing voice caused that whenever I sit down to watch one of your videos (usually do so after a long day translating technical and legal documents), my until now unawakened and undiscovered love for cheddar sandwiches (I also add a sunny-side-up egg) turns into a craving and I just have to prepare a couple of those and enjoy them while watching. I actually had to go and buy some at the local grocery store today as after reading the title of this video, I realised in utter horror that I too have run out of cheddar.
I know perfectly why I do avoid big cities whenever I visit UK.. but still, I was wondering where all that "Good ol' England" has gone... the answer is: To the canals! :)

On 15 September of this year I sent in a suggestion to add fanfares at the Fradley Junction Lock. I thank you for the extraordinarily diligent efforts you are making to institute those suggestions. However in the apparent haste to get cracking on the project, you neglected to send me a reply.
I don't wish to add to your burdens in instituting that important project, but I did want to also bring to your attention the possibility of providing another short fanfare at Bridge Number 1 on Trent and Mersey Canal. As there are no lock-keepers stationed at this bridge, let me suggest an automated system, with an infrared beam detecting passing boats, triggering a rousing chorus of "Rule Britannia!" through several loud-speakers. I'm sure that you can find some nearby residents who would readily volunteer to do basic upkeep to keep the system operational.

I could be wrong but I think a small railway like that one in the garden (one where you can ride on the train) is referred to as a miniature railway. Model railways are the sort you have in the house or occasionally in the garden but to scale and not for riding on. Love your commentary and camera work! Thanks.

The horror really comes home to roost when David discovers that Beryls Uber driver Kevin, had been sharing his favourite TH-cam Vlog with Beryl on their latest outing to Buzz Bingo Hall, pertaining to a former regional TV reporter turned gentleman boater. This inspiration alone was the striving force behind Beryl (and poor long suffering Gerald's) taking on her sea legs. Well dear hearts, we wait with baited breath.

I clicked on this one because running out of cheese is among my worst nightmares. Oh the horror and misery of the very thought! This may be heresy to you, but if Pilgrims Choice can't be found, Aldi offers a "West Country" mature cheese that gives your favourite a run for its money (or yours). I'm a cheddar addict, and I know my cheese, please Dave.
