Congratulations David. I'm a nurse who has been slowly descending into mental health problems with the strain of this year. Your vlog has been a surprising and endless joy to me. Have a good winter. "Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one."
Henry, I'm so pleased the videos have helped to calm your mind and I can't even begin to imagine the stress you and colleagues are under this year. Take care.
Recent developments across the pond in the US have reminded me how much I appreciated your videos over the past couple of years as a way to lower the old blood pressure when things got really crazy. Cheers!
Took me about 2 months to binge watch and now I'm sad that there's no more to watch. If I wasn't stuck here in America I think I'd love living a simpler life out on the canals of the UK.
Thank you for having us along on your cruises this year...you've shown us some wonderful things...like the closing image for this vlog. Between you and Jasmin from This Narrowboat Adventure, you've made me fall in love with the UK waterways. We have nothing like them here in the States, and one day I hope to be able to visit, hire a boat, and go to some of the places you've taken us. Thank you again! 🙂
I think this is the first full year I've enjoyed your videos, and I have to say they've done wonders for helping relax after tough days. You may not hear it often, but you and your channel are greatly appreciated, even by people who don't go sailing.
I just want to thank you again. The world seems to have gone completely mad and yet you somehow you still manage to be a most welcome and needed bastion of tranquility and inviting vistas. The calming influences and delightful laughs you have provided have been appreciated beyond all description. I hope all is well with you and that the storms of this world long pass you by. Here’s to another great season of cruising and too the future! *hoists a cold drink* Cheers.
I am absolutely enthralled by the centuries' old buildings and castles. Having grown up and living in Western Canada, nothing here is over a hundred years old. A building is considered old if it was built in your grandfather's time.
Psmirage you are so right, being American I was quite impressed when traveling through Ireland and bumping into people who had a family that lived in the same house for 300 or so years.
I would like to thank you for all the vlogs that you have done over this last year I as well as others have really enjoyed going on your journeys along the canals I think we all needed it especially with what is going on at the moment and look forward to seeing you again when you start cruising again stay safe and enjoy the rest over the winter
Loved all the "old bits," the castle, the church, the bridge, etc. from hundreds of years ago. Really appreciate you looking those up and commenting about them in your vlogs.
Thank you for all your wonderful content which has brought peace and tranquility into the strange times we have all found ourselves in at the moment. As this years cruising draws to a close , here's to next year and what it hopefully brings for everyone...
What a shame the cruising vlogs have to stop. Regardless of COVID-19, a million thanks for all the miles we've covered together this year. As for this cruise along the Trent - magnificent. Fabulous film and great commentary. Please take care of yourself David. Don't take any unneccessary risks. See you again soon
Thanks, David. I do enjoy your vids. Honestly living here in the states, at this point and time. Your video are wonderfully calming. I tend to stay with the calming and the disregard high tension. After 69 years I’ve realized that staying calm is better then the alternative. Thanks again my friend. Blessings to you and yours. (John B)
Dave-I’ve watched/enjoyed all your “cruising the cut” videos and currently watching your van/reading books series-you’re absolutely a treasure! Thank you-for keeping us all so well entertained this past year. Cheers to your continued successful endeavors!
I remember Cromwell Lock very well. After being towed by a sand barge from Goole, The barge crew threw my stern rope at me and missed which landed in the water behind me. I was going at some speed into the lock wall. This was my second day at narrow-boating. I reversed and put all my stern rope through my propeller as I had no time to get it out the water. I still hit the wall, nearly throwing my crew off the front deck. I was like a dead duck, in the lock with the sun just gone down and it pitch black, in freezing January with snow on the roof, cutting my stern rope free of my prop with a bread knife. And I still love boating
Coming off my five day, mostly sleepless marathon off stress and suspense with our elections, it was simply wonderful to bask in my now happy mood and sit back to enjoy this delightful journey. Thank you for all the calm and solace you provided me since I first discovered you early this year. You Sir, are a champion among men.

Newark On Trent. Newark Castle. Great bit of a history lesson. Being from Newark New Jersey I recall hearing that Newark New Jersey was supposed to be the sister city to Newark On Trent. Though I'm not certain if that's true. Anyway, your videos, cruising or not, are always quite entertaining. So feel free to take a much needed break from cruising. Besides you have to have already made well over 100 cruising videos. There's plenty of them for your viewers to revisit ⛵. Sorry I know yours isn't a sailboat but that's the closest emoji my phone has to a narrow boat. Be well & stay safe.
Couldn't ask for a nicer photo to end this year's cruising vids. Already looking forward to next year's -- no doubt filled with all the lovely countryside views and dry humor/geeky references snuck in while we're not looking but have totally come to expect from your channel. So any ideas so far on what kinds of videos those of us hungry for CtC content can expect in the meantime? Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us -- especially those of us across the pond who have to enjoy the canals vicariously through channels like yours!
When leaves, twigs or other organic substances fall into water and begin decaying, they release compounds known as surfacants. This interaction breaks the surface tension, which in turn allows air to more easily mix with water and creates bubbles. These bubbles congregate as natural foam.
Thank you most sincerely for the only traveling I've gotten to do since March. It's been a privilege to be your passenger and you may have saved my sanity. Fair winds and following waters.
Looks to be a very attractive journey, thanks. Hope you are now moored somewhere suitable for Lockdown 2 and will be able to keep up the vlogs until you can get moving again.

Between the morning malarkey of Sean and Colin, when I get all exited for the day, and your afternoon calming and serene excursion across the English countryside, I not only get my day started, but I also get to wind down for the evening! Between you and Sean, I now know more English history, and the architecture to commemorate it, than any old tome at a Library :)
I discovered this channel about 3-4 months ago because of boring online school. Sitting at home all day and the occasional narrow boat video in the background while doing homework is quite enjoyable.

Thanks for another great year of cruising videos David. I, and am sure many other people, really do appreciate all the hard work and effort you put into making them as it must take an enormous amount of time. knowledge and skill to produce an end product that is certainly as good, if not better, than anything the BBC has to offer. Happy Christmas and a safe Covid free New Year.
Lovely trip. Thank you. Until March I went from Newark to Southwell once a month. The bus passes Fiskerton, but never had time to stop. Good to see it from the river for a change. Then often have a pizza and a pint on the Castle Barge on my way home. Recommended, especially on the top deck, with large windows to enjoy the river and passing boats. Look forward to seeing it all again in person next year. Thanks for sharing your travels.
I've been meaning to comment for ages, finally found a moment. I love your channel. Working overseas in a high stress job, I find myself envying your life on more than one occasion. Your commentary was informative and funny at times and I thank you for not running over the little duckies! Enjoy your winter mooring.
David, Can you do a vlog on vlogging? Meaning the way you go about scripting, staging, presenting, filming and editing a video for the vlog. David,
Can you do a vlog on vlogging? Meaning the way you go about scripting, staging, presenting, filming and editing a video for the vlog.
One reason that Cruising the Cut stands out (in addition to its excellent subject matter) is your own professional approach to communicating it. I know very little about these things, but I am aware of it being a well-presented video, and I would be delighted to learn what makes it come across so well.
Thank you. It’s not something I’d do on this channel, as I prefer to keep it focused on canals and narrowboating.
Looking forward to your winter musings. Take care.
