Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

Read an article this morning about the number of layoffs in Iowa & Illinois plants in the past year. About 1000 so far. Another 600 or so by end of August '24. JD is moving production to Mexico.

How many years of trials do you like to get before you incorporate it into your program
Usually year 1 is a small trial, year 2 a bigger trial, year 3, maybe a few hundred acres, after that what ever I feel like using
When you harvest wheat, does that go directly to an elevator? Are there contracts for wheat like corn and soybeans?
It depends. Some is going straight to the elevator, some we are drying and will store til the winter. We can contract wheat just like corn and beans.
Some issues with the editing drone shots with audio?
Nope youtube didn't like the audio and made me mute part of it to not get demonetized

Have you removed the spreader diverter plates? Helped us spread residue better in beans atleast

Also when you are sitting in the grain cart you could shut the tractor off. That is what we do

I'm not sure maybe 3-5 degrees

How you guys pay for all that equipment is beyond me. You are running around that field combining 6 dollar a bushel wheat with a million dollars of equipment. That doesnt even make sense. The seed business and youtube must be good.
