Still my favorite fishing channel, nobody seems to river fish in there videos , that’s all I do so it’s nice to watch when I can’t be out! Pike have everything you could ask for in a fish! If you ever wanna come down to NW Ohio for some pike fishing I could hook you up!
I'm not sure why I just now saw this in late November, but this is an excellent vid, brother. I think I enjoyed the fly tying as much as I did the fishing. I've never tied a fly myself, but it looks fascinating. And who doesn't love a good dog for a fishing partner? Good girl, Clio!
Love the video. I can't wait to get out and do some fishing myself. Keep doing the fly tying segments. I'm learning a lot from watching you tye. Thanks again for another cool video. 👍
Nice video! You seem to fish your streamer always upstream it seems to work great. Do you have an explanation why bec I try it also but I struggle keeping up with the flow, sow I fish most down and across but I miss many takes is it related you think?
Very nice! I'm not a fly fisherman, but I enjoyed this video. 👍🏼 (As a kayak fisherman, I'm still trying to figure out where you waders set your beer while casting and retrieving. 😉)
It seems like you don't use a wire leader. Do you get bit off? Can you get away with wire leaders, or does that hinder fly casting or are river pike too wire shy to strike the fly?
I always use wire when targeting pike. When I'm fly fishing I use knot2kinky wire, very thin and flexible. If you look closely you can see it in some of the shots landing pike. My whole leader set up is also listed and linked in the description👍
I'm a passionate angler myself, pike being my favourite. Since I started watching your videos, I've started to get into fly fishing. Is there any chance you could upload a basic beginner fly fishing lesson and recommend gear? Thanks a million.
Mad River Outfitters is a great channel to get the beginner info you need its got 14 episodes in its beginner fly fishing playlist just make sure its the modern 1 and not the 1999 playlist. ive learned pretty much everything i need to start from him.
I’ve literally been at your channel for I think over 2 years I’m also from Michigan (we have a farm in Emmit and Salmon swim up it to spawn and we catch them with our hands)
If your from around sudbury or lake huron bro we should meet up do some casting or I can show ya some of my techniques for walleye in my 16 ft with a 90 and a telling motor
Fished my whole life, but never tried fly fishing. This vid makes me wanna try it! Any suggestions on a beginner, all purpose fly rod an reel that's affordable?
Michigan Mike, you can find affordable rod, reel, line combos from Redington , Orvis, Cabelas or other major manufacturers. If you are looking for a general purpose combo for trout, panfish, small bass etc. you can use a 5 weight combo. For larger fish and bigger flies that are more wind resistant to cast like the fly demoed at the beginning of the video, then a 7 weight or 8 weight combo would be the better choice. I use Redington products myself and I have had excellent success with all their rods and reels.
If you aren't sure how much your gonna use it and don't wanna spend much, a 7/8wt 'bass' combo would probably work fine. I started with the orvis clearwater rods which are a little more expensive, but having a nicer rod and line makes casting a ton easier than what you'll get from a combo. Orvis has a 25 year warranty with their rods, and the more expensive line will stay good for 4+ years. Your reel is the one thing that is usually okay to cheap out on, since often times it's just holding the line.
Awesome! I just got some trout streamers and was going to go fly fishing tomorrow but I found a boat trailer so I’m gonna buy that instead... do you ever get smallies on those pike flies?
Thanks! Browns on the fly would definitely be some fun. And smallies will absolutely crush these streamers as well. I usually use the two hooked versions though as they sometimes hit the back of these larger flies.
Thanks! I normally try to show the materials to the camera, just didn't have the packaging for the bucktail or flashabou. I'll try to type in the video next time 👍

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. That's one down side to wading I suppose, just gotta bring a bigger backpack 😂
Hey love the vids! One question what are you using to quickly change your flies on the line? Is it a swivel or something ? Jw. Thanks !
whats a good place to get/buy flys if you dont have the time to make them?

Yep that would work just fine 👍
What leader do you use on the fly rod when fishing for pike
I'm a passionate angler myself, pike being my favourite. Since I started watching your videos, I've started to get into fly fishing.

Catching salmon with your hands in michigan is illegal

If your from around sudbury or lake huron bro we should meet up do some casting or I can show ya some of my techniques for walleye in my 16 ft with a 90 and a telling motor
