    Have you ever caught the same trout more than once?

    • @flyfishscot6730
      @flyfishscot6730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great video as always mate! Not sure if I have but very possibly. My mate did catch the same trout as me though. Cracking fish for the small river in the upper reaches. He was with me when I caught it then battered the same spot for weeks until he got it! I didn’t want to admit it was the same fish but there was no denying it after some photo comparison. Good times!

      I'm pretty sure I caught the same fish once in two consecutive days from the same pool. The fish were same size so I figured they were the same. I need to do the same analysis as you did with the spots from the pictures to be sure. Why didn't I figure that out before...

    I really enjoy your videos mate! You have a great passion for fly fishing and ,like you, my hands tremble after catching a 3 pound wild river trout. I must admit that i am befuddled by the fact that you guys n gals in scotland, wales and england have to pay to fish your rivers and lakes. In Australia we pay about 25 bucks for a fishing liicense to fish everywhere. Salt and freshwater. We can fish all rivers as long as we access by a bridge and walk although most farmers allow you to get to the river via their land if you approach them with considerate intentions. Fly fishing is expensive enough without having to pay for permits! I say free the rivers for the common man! Anways, I look forward to your posts. I can tell you care about the environment and your fisheries. Peace out brother.

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Greg! So glad you enjoyed the video and can relate to the emotions! As I'm sure you know, fishing rights here are based on a very old system of land ownership that's been around for centuries and probably needs to be revisited. Thankfully the fishing is still pretty affordable in Scotland, especially if you're targeting wild non-migratory trout. And having the right to roam freely through the countryside (in Scotland at least) is brilliant for getting people outdoors and connecting with nature. I'd love to fish 'down under' one day! Hey Sean, new to fly fishing and been trying the Lynn Park stretch of white cart but not had any luck just yet.
    Is nymph with a strike indicator a sensible way to fish this bit of water or will the strike indicator spook the fish in such a small stream?

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Grant. Stick with it mate, the fishing has been really tough these past few weeks but it will definitely improve when the water warms up a bit. I wouldn't hesitate to fish nymphs under an indicator. The 2nd trout in this video wasn't spooked by a 5.5mm tungsten bead splashing into the water, so I doubt an indicator would bother them either. Yarn indicator is the way to go if you're worried about spooking them. Tight lines bud 👍🏼🐟🎣

I had a pair of Greys that cost me a little over £100 back in the day and they lasted me years before the seams failed. Hi Xia, both parks can fish well. Linn tends to be better for fly fishing, Pollock for other methods. I wouldn't recommend any particular spots. If you go for a walk along the river in either place, you'll quickly spot the deeper pools which tend to suit lure and bait fishing. Tight lines :)

      If the water's running clear, I'd go relatively light, Jim. 4lb tippet is my go to for smaller rivers like the Devon. You can scale up if the water is carrying a bit of colour but the fish can be quite leader shy so I'd stay away from the heavy stuff if possible. Tight lines 👍🏼🎣🐟

      I was a brand ambassador for their main UK distributor for a while, so I got it direct from them. I’ve heard they’re a bit tricky to get hold of. Greys do a scoop net that is very similar but doesn’t have the scales. Not sure if you’d maybe be able to find the McLean one from an international seller on eBay?

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. It’s been a rough few weeks hasn’t it! I’ve caught and seen fish caught on lots of different flies. From size 20 midge pupa to size 4 streamers. If you find rising fish, chances are they’re feeding on olives. The usual flies like jinglers, comparaduns and especially CDC olives in size 14/16 should work. If you don’t find rising fish, I’d use pheasant tails size 14 or a streamer fished slowly. Concentrate on pools that have deep water in the middle and riffles at the head. The fish will likely be hanging about in the deeper stuff but they’ll move into faster water to feed. I’d also concentrate on the middle of the day (11-3pm) and don’t expect an evening rise unless the weather warms up a bit. It’ll come good once the temp picks up 👍🏼. Tight lines bud 🎣🐟
