Betteravia, CA is a former Union Sugar Company Sugarbeet refinery and company townsite. At it's peak, 350 people lived in the company town. Sugarbeets were brought from the Central and Imperial Valleys by train and processed into sugar. Production ceased in 1993 as refining sugar beets was no longer cost effective.
