The taxes in California are the main reason that the railroad pulled up the old Number 1 track. The President at the time was trying to reduce the tax burden on the company. That was one way to do it. So was removing the turntable and the offices. Same Tax deal.

Love the footage. SO this was some sort of officers special of some sort. Norden was reduced to a siding mostly due to Crazy Democrat run California who zealously tax and re tax the railroads almost at will for everything from active switches to working gyralites to starting up locomotives in the state to rails on the ground tax to any standing building s to number of signals to......to.... to...

I remember as a young teenager in the 1950's, we would get into the crew cafeteria for an amazing plate of spaghetti, and also go out and look at the turntable in a nearby area of those large sheds. We saw the big old cab forwards in there getting rotated for their next trip as helpers, etc. I will never forget all that. We would camp and fish at Donner Lake. I now live in Clackamas, Oregon, a couple miles from the mainline rail.

I've seen hundreds of videos about Cajon, I've checked google maps, I think I know all about it. Unfortunately I am still preparing my first visit. Last time I was close, I reached Tehachapi and Barstow, there was a snow storm South of it and I decided to miss it. But this drone video is from another star, I am really grateful to you, many thanks for this great video.

I am am a retired SP UP engineer. I ran the SP and Amtrak passenger equipment . Never ran the UP sets. I did tour the UP passenger facility in Council Bluffs . The UP takes pride in their passenger fleet to keep them pristine.
