Hi Jamielynn, i do online parent consultations up to twice a month to help parents screen their kiddos, implement specific exercises, and help educate which can be booked here: drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service
They are not online telehealth pediatric physical therapy (although i can provide that in WA and WI currently). If a child needs additional services and PT is most appropriate i can connect parents with a network of PTs or help them find one that is local or licensed in their state.

You say ensure they can crawl first (not those exact words) however not all babies crawl and skip crawling altogether

Hi Catherine, yes skipping crawling has been normalized by providers for some time; however, that negates the reason why some children have difficulty with crawling often due to muscle tightness or weakness that can be solved.
Most therapists will share that children who do not crawl do not have the same experiences as their same age crawling peers which can predispose them to certain difficulties in academics such as difficulty with handwriting (the ground provides strengthening through the inner hand muscles, upper trunk and shoulder muscles needed for handwriting to occur), difficulty with crossing midline activities which can influence reading and writing, and core or hip strength issues from not spending time in all fours.
This is obviously not every single child’s experience; however, if we can solve some of these childrens experiences by understand why crawling is difficult (upper and lower trunk tightness, arm or upper trunk weakness, hip weakness) then we can give every child the opportunity to crawl.
It is my firm belief that every child deserves the benefits and opportunities that crawling provides both for their body and brain (this list is also not exhaustive as I didnt even go into primitive reflex integration or head/vision isolation that can affect things like copying down from the board).
If a child is having difficulty with crawling please review my learning to crawl course (its free) here: drlaurenbaker.com/courses or consider having them see a pediatric physical therapist to learn more about how to help them crawl. It also covers asymmetrical crawling patterns such as booty scooting and hitch crawling or prolonged army crawling and the why and blocks likely causing these movement patterns (ie something in their body is causing them to move this way and can be solved).

Additionally, if a child is not able to tolerate all fours, moving into tall kneeling and then half kneeling will likely be quite difficult for them (although not always).
