0:39 the French and the British allies were hoping to establish a secondary defensive line in central Belgium, running along two rivers (I believe the Daal and Meuse, but correct me if I'm wrong). However, the real thing that screwed the allied plans was that the main German tank assault came through the Ardennes, a mountainous and heavily forested region, which the allies judged impassable for large tank formations. Imagine their shock when, not just a large German tank formation, but the main one, emerged out of the Ardennes and near the major north-French town of Sedan.
Everyone memes on the French, but the two biggest mistakes in that situation were made by the Belgians. First, the Belgians failed to build a strong fortification line that would essentially cut north from roughly where the Maginot ended, which was kinda excusable due to the Great Depression. Second, the Belgian government in 1939 pussed out, maintained neutrality for fear of provoking Germany and refused to let the early waves of mobilised French and British troops enter their territory until the Germans were literally crossing the border, which is basically all that prevented the Allies from taking up those positions along the Meuse and Daal in time to stop the German advance.

Basically a french general really loved Romania and told Ferdinand I (the king of romania at that time) that the war will end in 1 day, and they should declare war to Germany again. This is happening because Romania switched sides in ww1 also, joining Germany's side after losing 2 thirds of its Territory in just a few months to Austria hungary. at this time Entente was going to win the war, and because Romania was on Germany's side, so they would not get any territory gains. Thr whole purpose of joining ww1 for Romania was Transylvania, if they wouldn't have declared war again on Germany and it's allies they wouldn't have got their territory claims

An important factor of the No-No German attacking France also was that the the Germans had a lot, very quick and mobile tanks which even managed to navigate through the Ardennes, while France's heavy Char B1's guarded ONLY the Belgian border and not the Ardennes. Since France didn't expect the germans to go through this little part it wasn't fortified, neither by tanks nor by the maginot line.
Originally both sides knew the other wouldn't use this part of the border due to the mountains, however Heinz Guderian and other Generals of the German Army had faith in it. Something which became crucial for the advance.
(Btw. When France finally realized the germans pushed through the Ardennes, it was too late. The Char B1's were way to slow to go all the way there, while German troops also advanced through Belgium so they were basically screwed.)

The Maginot Line did what it was supposed to do. Recon aircraft saw the German army coming through the Ardennes. The French army had previously wargamed the scenario and discovered that tanks could, in fact, make it through.
But for some reason, their generals decided to just... ignore inconvenient facts.
