It was the Ruby on Rails developer that created OMAKUB. I really dig it... while I don't use it as a daily, it's a great setup that's being used for the Ruby on Rails team to check out Linux quickly and easily - win win!
It would be easy to convert. Since Ubuntu and debian are very compatible it might even just work - but probably needs a couple tweaks. I'll put in a feature request on the github.
I don't use OMAKUB as a daily driver, but that's not what it's for. It's literally for non-Linux users, and ruby on rails employees, to quickly spin up an Ubuntu base with some extra sauce. It was also updated since the video with more options to select what software packages to install. I like it.

Oh, I agree - but DHH did a great job and THIS video was about options for users who DON'T know how to easily create these effects.
