How about those wanting to stay under the 700-800 range, and like the DF83V with stock espresso burrs, but dont know if the DF64v(latest version) with SSP burrs ...which one would give what flavors?? I borrowed someones Niche to compare with the SSP cast burrs since I thought they might be kinda similar in profile but I sold my df64 I had the cast burrs in not sure I wanna put them back In the p64 because I'm liking the p64 stock burrs. So might compare Niche vs Df83. So far I did do one or two shots and it seemed like it was very similar but Niche had a little less clarity and more body and a bit more harshness maybe. But very pretty similar. I'll try repeating that a few times.

      Update: DF83 (new / unseasoned Italmill burrs) was similar to the Niche initially, except DF83 had a little more flavour clarity and a little less body. MUCH smoother though (less bitterness). After modding the declumper I got a good amount more clarity and a reduction of body. My only complaint with the DF83 is the funnel rattles and is loud unless you hold it on, also needs a anti-popcorn mod if you're going to do hot loading which I recommend.

    I had the Decent and plenty of grinders/burrs (ssp 98mm HU, 98mm LU, 98mm pre 2015 turkish, 64mm unimodal brew, 64mm MP, 64mm proM-mk, 64mm Kenya mk, SSP 73mm unimodal Guatemala SB and many more). The reason why I ditched and hate on SSP unimodal burrs, is because they are really good with super light roasts pulled fast (12-20 sec shot). The moment you go above 22-25 sec the shot gets dirty, closed, muted, with plenty of bad astringency/aftertaste. In the cup the shots with ssp if pulled long time are developing some sort of muddiness/murky water type, almost silty/gritty a bit. I had the df64, the lagom p64, ek43, ultra levercraft, bentwood c63, niche and many more. In my opinion nothing can beat a well extracted traditional flat/conical grinder, if you manage to pull a decent extraction on it with proper shot profile+temp then you will like it more than the ssp. In my opinion SSP is too narrow tastewise, mostly not layered, the shot is compact in taste, there are 1 or 2 main notes pushed forward with huge intensity (Fruits) and then the background is hard to get. With more traditional grinders the presentation is more complex/yes not as intense but the notes are spaced better.

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a case here. Sometimes ssp mp magnifies the bad taste as well as good ones. Do you think we should use them only for Turbo shots then?
      I will be getting another grinder soon and at the end I would like to have one for super clarity and one for everything else. I can’t tell you yet what am I getting (surprise) but would be interested of your opinion which grinder should I pair it with.

    • @deenman60
      @deenman60 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mycoffeeshow111 if the beans are light then the best results on SSP MP or similar burrs would be with 1-2 ratio (longer ratio brings more bad aftertaste/ these burrs extract a lot already, raising the ratio increases extraction that you dont need) so stick to 1-2 or 1-2.2 for ssp mp) and aim for 16-22 sec shot (extractamundo, fast flow profiles like 2.5-3.5 up to 5 g./sec flow. The shot will miss some body and some texture but it will have more sweetness, clarity and flavors come upfront better. The extraction will also go higher 1 or 2% on them even if the shot is flowing much faster.

      I remember getting good results with my all too common grinding too fine and getting 45sec or 1 minute shots with those burrs! Just don't let it over-extract, I usually do just under 1:2 ratios. Lately 16g in 30g out.
      I agree those burrs are not very balanced, but I kinda like having a super high clarity option. I have had them out of my grinder for a bit but want to go re-visit them. I'm liking the balance of the Stock P64 burrs currently.

Approx pricing in Australia is $1,600 Libra & $1,200 DF83 however I know you probably wouldn't compare these two grinders together but any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks & Cheers.

In UK it cost around £550 vs £850 for DF83 and I would still go for DF83 as it is faster and gives you overall better flavour in the cup. If Libra was 64mm that could be a different story.

      Hi, for flat white you may stick with what you have. Niche Zero should be perfect for this, especially with medium roast and stock burrs should be enough for lighter roasts milk based drinks.
      As for espresso, especially if you like clarity, MP can be great but much more difficult to dial in. They are also very good for pour overs. I never had 64mm HU burrs so can’t really comment on them.

      I can only assume that yes, it should work great for something like Moccamaster as well but never tested myself. This weekend we will be testing cast burrs which should be perfect for pour overs and the results… well, you will see 😛

    • @fredbloggs6080
      @fredbloggs6080 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mycoffeeshow111 I'm going to correct the typos in my original comment. I recently saw another reviewer compare the DF64 with the cast burrs against the Urbanic and preferred the former for pour over. I recently got the Moccmaster to replace a several-years-old Cuisinart DCC 3200, and between a change in the same coffee I have been using, and/or the Cuisinart not brewing correctly due to age or something, and trying several new and more expensive grinders, and still experimenting with a Moccmaster, I still haven't been able to get the coffee to come out like it has been for years except for the last few months. I bought the top-of-the-line ThermoWorks Thermapen that is their fastest and most accurate, reads in one second, which just arrived earlier today, and I tested the water at the top of the grinds in the MM when it's brewing (I use the half pot setting), and it was 200°F, briefly 201°F, which should be the optimal temperature, I think. I'm having to do those little workarounds, keeping the carafe out so the grinds to get saturated, turning the water off for 20 seconds, turning it on putting the trip back to continue brewing, moving grinds into the center, etc. I think it would be easier to do straight pour over, although I've never done it. I ordered the CoffeePilot spray head that sits atop the filter basket to more evenly distribute the water, which should arrive in a week, and hopefully I won't have to go through that rigmarole. The Cuisinart brewed great--I have had several of them--but it only lasts about a year or a year and a half before it doesn't brew as well. Still, at almost 1/5 the price of the MM, I could buy one a year for five years for the same price.
      PS I've noticed for years on TH-cam that if you have a hearted comments and edit the comment, it removes the heart.

      @@mycoffeeshow111 Thank you. I think I'm going to order another Cuisinart DCC 3200, for $75, just to see if that's the variable. By the way, don't let people sell the Cuisinart DCC 3200 short. It has gotten a top rating by Consumer Reports for years as far as attaining the proper water temperature, you can set it to brew 1-4 cups, which preheats the water, it has a Bold setting which slows down the brewing, and the spray head sprays over all the grinds evenly. Yes, it may only last year and a half, but it's fairly inexpensive (I spend as much on coffee in 6 weeks as the price of a new cuisinart DCC 3200). I did, in fact try the Fellow Ode Gen 2 with the Gen 2 burrs, and it seemed to brew a clean cup, but without the fuller flavor of my (don't laugh) Cuisinart Supreme Grind block burr mill. But it is hard to tell because the Cuisinart coffee maker was probably failing in one way or another--I suspect it was somehow slowing down the brewing yet retaining the heat or maybe it was too hot, I don't know what might have happened. But I returned it after a couple days because it was shutting off while it was still grinding about 75% of the time, leaving maybe a tablespoon of beans in the burrs, and I didn't feel I should have to run it again since it's supposed to stop automatically as a single dose machine. (I hadn't yet got the Moccamaster before I returned the Ode. I also recently got the OXO conical grinder, a couple weeks ago and I'm just now finding the right grind setting that might be appropriate. I stopped using it for a while because it retained about a tablespoon of grinds, but I found rather than taking it apart and turning it upside down, shaking, tapping and brushing it out, blowing in it and turning it on again to get get more grinds out, which was very messy, I now turn it on again and rock it side to side and back and forth on the base for about 20 seconds, which seems to clear all the grinds stuck inside. I also got the IZpresso VP6 from Taiwan, for $200, but everything I try with that comes out more bitter--I haven't found a grind that works. Which is why I'm wondering if I should get a more expensive grinder again, should I get another Fellow Ode Gen 2, or the DF64 or more likely the DF83, but we're talking about a lot of money there, twice the price of the Fellow Ode.
      I just researched the Mahlkonig EKK43, and I say it's over $3000 looks like an oversized Urbanic/Fuji Royal type of grinder, except much more powerful with much larger, cast, burrs (not the ghost burrs of the Fuji Royal or available in some Grindmasters).
      Although I had been having for a problem getting a good brew lately, while experimenting with the Moccamaster (Select) from a second brand of the same source organic Colombian Santa Marta, which has quite a different flavor no my long-time brand, I just now got to come out very well by using a 3 inch strainer with a handle under the sprayhead and moving it around over the grinds so that it basically creates a pour over. I think this spray head is really the problem with the moccamaster, at least with the half of pot setting I use.
