This LA Heat wave was kicking our butts and our landlord just replaced all our windows to the side sliding ones. My daughter’s room was so hot 🥵 she couldn’t sleep and had to spend the night in my bed for 3 nights. Any type of portable air conditioners were sold out during the peak of the heat wave. I found an AC in the garage and knew we had to make it work! Looked on TH-cam and your demonstration was the quickest, easiest, most efficient step by step video with the best feedback in the comments! 👏🏽 Now my daughter can chill in her room in cool refreshing tranquility 🥶💆🏽‍♀️
A simple video for you became a life savor for my family 2 yrs later 😭❤️

Looks well done, I'm going to need to do something like this to have to get an AC unit first but only thing I would do different is get thick plexiglass cut to correct measurements using that rather then plywood although plywood would keep sun out so have to decide on that, the other thing is rather then building frame I would just use flat thick bar to go across the top bracket of ac unit from side to side of interior window frame to other side of window framing to lock in place so ac doesn't fall out, did this few years ago for relative installed two ac units works well then when summer is over just remove bar & wood or plexiglass for winter time thanks for the post sir👍

My last air con was installed similar to yours 20yrs ago still solid as a rock.
We have security screens so the guy used metal instead of wood to secure it.
I live in tropics Australia. Think timber would rot here.

@@mrnoe67tiktok One other thing I’ve ran into that I’m not sure how to figure out. My windows are a really old single-pane type. Much too thin to bed the wood frame in. The sliding rail, and the metal exterior to the house are also the same height, so a wooden frame is likely to fall right out the window.

@@mrnoe67tiktok One idea I had would be to build a frame around the AC unit itself, and use a drill-less support for the unit. Though I hadn't figured out how I'm going to secure the plywood fill to the window frame. Swapping out the plywood for more flexible plexiglass will probably be the simpler solution. Fill the gaps with silicone caulk, and it should hopefully stay in place.
This bedroom being a 10 x 10 pretty much prevents a portable unit from being an option (barely enough room for just my stuff alone). And this is a rental unit, so trying to avoid drilling holes as well.

Hi. Great video, thanks. I just purchased a new window unit 3 weeks ago. It is already emitting an acetone-like smell.
I read online last night that this may be because it was installed wrong. Do you think I could reinstall it and make the smell go away or should I just return it? Thank you.

Too much futzing around having to build a frame and stick a piece of plywood to fill the gap. For all that, I would have used a sheet of plexiglass to let in light.

Why hasn't the multimillion dollar window ac companies not considered that some people don't have windows that go up and down? Daaarrfff 🤯 even our "portable" ac is built for an up and down slider only. Come on geniuses think outside the "box" literally!
