    Thank you so much for making such a detailed video. This must have been extremely time consuming to make. You explain everything with such great detail. I purchased the 12-1 cab and wanted to convert it in a bad way. Now I can play my 7k games from MAME. Thanks again.

      I’m glad to hear that! I tried to be sure to strike a balance of keeping it as brief as possible but still give enough information. I personally like a lot of detail when doing an expensive project like this. I wouldn’t want to get stuck at a point and have to hope someone could help me in the comments. If anyone has questions I do my best to answer or help with odd issues that may come up. I also try to reply to everyone’s comments on this channel.

Simply meaning a actual full size arcade with CRT monitor etc running mame and all other consoles in native refresh rates and resolutions via groovymame mame and switch res . I can appreciate and respect this build and the time went into this video. Dont listen the clowns here and morons that want to complain about a machine that does what it was intended to do and nothing more..great vid man...

      Thanks Robert! I’d love a real cabinet lol, I don’t have enough room. I know this won’t be for some people, I’m pleased with it and it’s as close as I can get with the space and skill limitations I have. This point was to show it can be done on a budget but still get some of the real feel. I’ve been lucky with this channel so far, TH-cam commenters can be vicious but most have been cool.

      Thanks! I have an updated version of this video uploading now and expected to be up Wednesday. Its more for Windows 10 and Launchbox front end users. I also link to the exact PC Ive been using in all of my cabinets now. I found a great one that's reasonably priced. The CRT would be better but I think Ive only seen one that was put into these cabinets. The weight would be a bit much for the cab, or at least that's what I'd think lol.

    Hello Chris, looks like I have to call tech support for maximus. Keep getting error and I can't figure it out. I did want to ask you about the lower button set up. I know that your lower left button is for coins which is selected in the input section under "coin 1" most likely . When it came to the lower right button used for "end and esc menu " which title did you designate the lower right button too? Thanks

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, are you able to launch MAME games fro Maximus? I’m wondering if you need to double check the path to the MAME exe and ROM folder. Hopefully they’ll be helpful if that doesn’t fix it. You’re right about the left button being set to coin 1. You’ll set the lower right button in the Maximus settings. I set it to the “Quit executable” option in Maximus’ controller tab.

    After looking at the raspberry 3 and retropie issues I'm looking to copy your design and go with a computer inside my Arcade1up. Not to familiar with what all Im talking about just yet but im getting there lol. Your games like Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat look like they run flawlessly. Anyways my question is how many MAME games do you think I could download and run clean going with the computer you recommended below? I was looking at your list on your system and while very impressed with whats on there, i was hoping I could get a few more like Pit Fighter, Tekken, and a few more. Great job on your build!

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the PC is always going to be more reliable. If you choose to replace the hard drive with an SSD it will have no moving parts other than the fans. I run hard drives in mine right now and its still fine but those are the weak points for longevity in these. I've heard of Pi's overheating, not being able to emulate high demand games and other weird issues. They aren't for me. The PC I linked could absolutely run Pit Fighter, it should be fine with the early Tekkens. Tekken 4 and beyond may have trouble but I don't know for sure as I've never emulated them. It would be easier to tell you which games it definitely can't run, like, Mortal Kombat 4, NBA Showtime, Racing games like SF Rush games, Hydro Thunder (which can't be emulated by anything currently) and most games made after 1999ish. If you have any other's in mind just leave the comment and I'll see if I can get an answer. Thanks for checking it out!

      @@KillerArcadeGames thanks for the info. I am looking to basically have all the games you have MK1,2,3, KI, KI2, different Street fighter verisons, maybe tekken 1,2,3, Pit-fighter, NBA Jams and a few others I can think of at the moment. And of course a few classics like Pacman, frogger, donkey kong, etc. I know the old games I wont have any trouble with but I guess my question is, will the computer you recommended in the comments below be able to take on 30-50 games and have all of them run smoothly like your does? Is 3.40 GHz a fast enough processor to support those? Will I be able to store that many games in one cabinet? Noob here lol.

      I have trying to make my cabinet like your and it it coming along great so far, 75% complete or so but I did run into an issue. If you run the 3mm audio cable from the amp to the computer, where are you plugging in your computer speakers into? Also letting you know that the amp you listed doesnt have a 3mm plug, wondering if that was a mistake or am I missing something to go forward with the built. Cant thank you enough for your help.

    Isn't the return to the game select screen button the player 2 coin button?

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only have one coin button. It works for both sides. It probably won’t work well if you’re trying to play 4 player games like TMNT where you’re required to insert coins in a specific slot to play a character. But, you can just get a 2 player version of most of those 4 player games, then it won’t matter which “coin slot” you give a credit to. You just select your character after inserting the coin.

    Do you know if the control panel for the different cabinets are interchangeable? For example, will the Mortal Kombat control panel fit into the Atari Deluxe Edition cabinet? I own the Deluxe cabinet, but it doesn't have a joystick, so it will be pretty useless to mod it as-is for a MAME cabinet.

    is it possible to put PC games on here as well? I'm thinking specifically of games like Overcooked. That wouldn't be able to run through MAME though, I don't think. Is there a way to make it to where you can jump from MAME to the games without going to Windows directly? Sort of how Retropi will let you jump from multiple emulators? Or is that way too complicated/not possible?

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! I had Mortal Kombat 4 (PC version) on this cabinet. I no longer use Maximus Arcade but when I did I just made a batch file that would essentially launch the game through the front end. Launchbox is what I use now, I have not tried setting up a PC game in it but I know it's possible. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you're using Maximus Arcade, Google how to create a batch file (its very easy) and set it up in Maximus.

      I don't know of anywhere you can take it. Some sellers online offer premodded kits to retrofit your cabinet. You will still need to open it up and plug some stuff in. I'd always suggest just doing your own mod, especially if you have a specific theme in mind. Most of these sellers will only offer Sanwa (at best) controls instead of Happ (what was in almost every American arcade) controls. You'll likely be stuck with a Raspberry Pi which is fine if you only want to play much older games. IF you want Killer Instinct, you won't be able to run it on any Pi without some graphic/sound/overheating issues.

    Hello KAG, I am still messing with set up. For some reason the set up is working opposite. for example P1 LEFT works when it's JOY 1 RIGHT . Not JOY 1 LEFT . Is it the wires , I have no clue? As if things have to be set opposite to work. Other problem I have is I can't get the 1st top left fight button to work for player 1 and 2 . By the way I still have to install the last 2 lower front buttons for coin and exit. Ran short of supplies. Thanks

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This stick issue is probably the wiring. When you put the stick left, it presses the right switch in the joystick. You may have wired it backwards since its confusing when looking at it underneath. As far as the button goes...I'm not sure. I'd start by plugging the button into a different port on the board and see if it works. It's strange its happening to both player 1 and 2, I'm assuming P1 and P2 are separate boards. Did they not give you enough cables with the boards to connect the buttons? I noticed they did that to me with the MK2 cabinet. When I alerted them they said they'd correct it for future orders.

    Hello KAG, I just started to set up the joystick and buttons but I am a little confused. I figured out how to set up the joy sticks but not sure how to specifically set up the 6 main buttons like the game. High attack , low attack buttons. Is button 1 called button 1, button 2 called 2, etc? Is it that simple? Cause on your vid you did not go through entire input button set up. I just don't want to mess it up. :) Thanks!

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In MAME? It depends on the game. But most games will go from top to bottom, left to right. So for Killer Instinct, its 1 is quick punch, 2 is medium punch, 3 is fierce punch, 4 is quick kick..etc. It's hard for me to say on each game. Mortal Kombat is difficult but I do go over those in the video at 31:00. The best advice I can give is to set your buttons on games you're not sure of, then test them. If they're wrong, take note of which ones aren't right, go back to the control set up menu is MAME (press tab, then select Controls (This game)) and change them. If you're really stuck on a game's set up you might try Google. I had some luck doing that when I set mine up.

    I'm a bit confused on how I would go about using the controls/sticks-&-buttons the cabinet originally came with, rather than swapping them out.
    I got the Marvel Superheroes Special Edition, that came with Sanwa controls, and so I'd like to keep them. Do I need a different encoder board/Is there one that simply plugs in where the old one did?
    Or do I need to open it up and rewire some things (Like, to connect the controls as a separate player1/player2 set of buttons, I need to rewire things?)?...

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the original controls but you will need a USB encoder board to plug them in to. The joysticks probably have a single connector to plug right into the board for each one. Each button has to be plugged into the new boards like I show in the video. The power switch and volume switch won't work without some modifying of the wiring. I wouldn't recommend messing with that, I'd just use a power strip like I did. You can just put the whole PC in if it fits. I just bought one of the Dell Optiplex PC's I link to for a new build and it fits without removing it from the case.

  • @pdxmetal

    I would think this power button should turn on the pc as well, acting the same as if it were a power switch on a pc case. I am going to try to configure it this way. At 145 CFM, the usb fan is a beast, but you do fine without an exhaust fan?

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does work that way. I just don't need to boot my PC with the button since I set it to start up as soon as power is received. The cooling is the weakest point of this design, an exhaust fan is ideal in a set up like this. That said, the fan seems to do just fine with keeping the cabinet cool. My house is almost never warmer than 75 degrees, I don't run the cabinets 24/7 but when I've let them run for hours they never get too hot. I used my temperature gun on the outside of the cabinet and the highest I've recorded was maybe 90-95 degrees when shooting it near the motherboard's location. The funny thing is the hottest point is always the top of the cabinet where the light up marquee's LED strip is stuck. That gets to like 110F lol. But the PC is always at the bottom where its cooler.

    • @pdxmetal
      @pdxmetal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KillerArcadeGames After some pondering I decided that a healthy dose of Orchid boob flash fatalities would necessitate the need of good cooling. I am going to put two 120mm fans over the bottom vents as exhaust, and two 140mm fans blowing air across the board. I think this should be more than adequate. Ideally, the exhaust vents should be at the top of the cabinet but getting power up there is the real challenge.

      You can plug them in to either USB board, in any slot. You’ll be assigning the coin/exit stuff so it really doesn’t matter which port they go in. I just plugged them in to the closest point since the wires are short. They can even go into the same board, they aren’t player specific.

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can run console games. You'll have to find the console's emulators and ROMs, then set it up in the front end (Maximus Arcade). It's similar to setting up MAME though. So you could have an "Ultimate MK cabinet" by adding all of the console versions to it! If you want to run MK Gold from Dreamcast, you'll need a decent PC. Nothing too high end, the one I link to in the description should have plenty of power to run it. I've never had much luck running Dreamcast emulation but I haven't tried very hard either. The N64 emulator is very easy to setup.

I hate to even suggest this, but if it isn’t resolved you might back everything up and reinstall the OS. To do this I had to download winToUSB because without it, it’s impossible to run Windows on a usb. So that’s why I needed that program.
