  • Welcome back to the channel. In this video I tear down my sons 1995 Yamaha PW80's top end. I show step by step how I removed the cylinder, head, and piston. I deglazed . and crosshatched the new cylinder in prep for installation. I installed the the top end, and got it running at the end of the video. Neighbor asked me to help get his grandsons dirtbike running(1995 pw80)....cleaned carb 1st figuring it needed to be done as bike had been sitting...then decided to check and clean off spark plug and check compression while plug was out....just barely over 25psi you can push kickstart with pinky finger. So i guess my neighbor has to go amazon/ebay shopping for a rebuild kit. When i was cleaning the carb i noticed the previous owner had shoved a stick into whats supossed to be the oil feed line going to carb in an attempt to bypass the oil pump and not create a vacuum leak😂 lol. Im guessing the previous owner got their gas mix wrong a few times as well leading to the low compression.

      Ya lots of these older bikes were abused over the years. Sometimes bandaid fixes cause more issues down the road. Hope ya get it running properly for the kid. 40:1 or 50:1 is usually recommended for these things. Thanks for sharing. Cheers

      @@bigair0176at this point I've explained to them about the low compression and that a rebuild isn't that expensive but they don't want to put any more $ into it. They got it for 200 plus I checked it out for 40. Kinda shocked they won't put a few more dollars into it.

      Really impressed on the compression. Was surprised how much I noticed it in the kick starter.

    Hi, thanks for the video! How is the cylinder kit holding on? Can you post the link to the kit? Thanks!

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t buy the kit. The guy I bought it from had the kit already. The only thing I bought was the honing tool, the lubricants and the oem rings. I purchased the oem rings from the local dealer. As for the kit. I purchased my sons pw50 kit from eBay. I am assuming you can find these kits on eBay or Amazon. They are basically refirbed cylinders with heads. I totally recommend you hone the cylinder before install. Usually not done as good as they should be when you buy them. But I am sure for under a 100$ you can find a decent kit. Just look at all the reviews before purchase. Thanks for the feedback. I try to reply as much as I can. I still have this bike and haven’t made a vid in a while. Damn Covid makes it hard to get any parts. Cheers

    Could I put on a 49mm (100cc) big bore piston in the stock cylinder? I heard you said 2 sizes up but I wasn’t sure what you meant

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you had the cylinder bored out to the proper size to fit the bigger piston yea. Typically a stock cylinder can be bored out a size or two depending on the thickness of the cylinder liner.

    great detailed video,do you know how much one of these kits cost i need to rebuild my pws top end

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not to expensive. I think you can get them on eBay relatively cheap. I think I payed about 100-150$

  • @goldnugget200
    @goldnugget200 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    hey if im just replacing my gaskets should i still regreese everything

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gaskets don’t need grease. But if you mean oil the cylinder it wouldn’t hurt to put a coat of oil on the walls and rings. Good time to even give a quick hone

    How much compression does it have after the rebuild. And if it had lower compression before did it have more power after

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure the compression test is at end of the video. The piston and cylinder were toast. I am surprised it ran before I did rebuild. Again pretty sure I show how the piston and cylinder looked in the video. The bike started on its first kick with new cylinder. It had enough power to drive myself where before the rebuild it struggled. I was super happy how it turned out with all that I did to it.

    Do you have to hone the cylinder?

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would but if you don’t you may not have the top end last as long. Will depend on on how well the machine shop did it for you

    is the cross hatching necessary because im not too sure about motors

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you had a machine shop rebuilding your motor they would do it. The cross hatching helps with lubrication and breaking in the rings especially in the beginning. Just my thoughts on it. I suspect the top end rebuild wouldn’t last as long if you don’t have good cross hatching in the cylinder.
