Hidden Gems at the Dollar Tree for a Junk Journal Challenge

- A cake mix? Am I kidding? From the limited supplies at the small Dollar Tree in my community, I’ve managed to find 16 items that I think will make a beautiful junk journal and I’m joining the Dollar Tree Junk Journal Challenge hosted by Jessica at @PaperTerrace -Are you joining the fun too?
I’m also joining the parallel event at @CaraBrandonCreations along with many other maker friends this month. There are just a couple of simple rules - to make a journal with supplies only purchased from the Dollar Tree(or a similarly priced discount store if there is no store near you) with a budget of only $20. This limits one to about 16 items to make a beautiful junk journal. Can I do it? I hope you will join me and see.

So excited to see this series especially since many people don’t have access things some of us enjoy. I love browsing through the dollar stores but do think the Dollar Tree has a better selection than many others. Thank goodness we have a couple of Dollar Trees in a Toronto. I wish I could commit faster; it would surely save me time and money 😂 I’ve collected enough for about 3 different dollar tree journals. I couldn’t find everything I wanted at the first store….and every time I go to a new store I change my mind and buy more 😂🤣😂 Your intentional approach is much better. Love your choices! I made my very first junk journal from a Dollar Tree challenge in 2017, it really helped to limit the options and make me focus. I still love that journal! I happened to see your video and I'm inspired to make one like yours with the beautiful greens! I have a nice Dollar Tree just around the corner but haven't been there for ages...maybe this challenge will get me started again. Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see your journal!

I am elated that you made this series of videos.......greens and blues are my favorite colors and I am making a Lily of the Valley junk journal and must get the card you placed on the cover. I just hope when I go to Dollar Tree tomorrow that they have it.

Love the colors! I also used a food box for my cover since my DT did not have books either. I covered it with fabric but don't have anything for a centerpiece. Need to take a look at the cards. Can't wait to see how you use the paint!

Love your finds and the cake mix box for your cover. Very creative. I actually just finished my very first junk journal for this challenge (and first ever) today, but didn't get the video up yet. It was a bit of a struggle. lol Looking forward to learning from everyone's creativity in this challenge! Also, I'm just a smidge jealous as I can't find those paper pack in any of my DT's. Well, one or two more stores to go - maybe for next round. TFS

@@debhouckscraftycottage9288 No no! We all say that at first. You’ll be great - just keep making journals! You know, it seems like it should be easy, right? But there are things about this that are certainly not easy and limited challenges are often quite difficult - at least I think so. But they can be fun, as you say. So just be proud of yourself for completing the challenge, learn from what you don’t like and keep going. You will soon be really good at it.
Such a lovely assortment. They closed the best DT in our town a while ago. The one that stayed open is hit and miss in getting anything. I might have to visit the Dollarama for some items as she did say it's alright to go to other dollar stores. I hope to have my video for the challenge up by Tuesday. Have fun ☺♥

Ooooh I love this concept! And love what you have grabbed. We don't have a Dollar Tree here in Australia (as far as I know - *edit* looks like we do but not in Sydney) but we do have other bargain type shops like that. Not sure our prices are as low as yours! I might have to double the budget to get 16 items hahaha But I am looking forward to you taking us on your 'fast and furious' ride to March 15!
Thanks so much Gemma! 😊 I’m always curious how junk journaling is different is other countries. Finding and accessing supplies is a huge part of this, right? It forces one to be creative, haha.
@@BeAgainBooks very true! Most of the stuff I currently use is packaging, thrift shop and secondhand sewing charity shop treasures! I do have scrapbooking papers of course and we do have an Australian brand here called Kaisercraft - you might know it?! They have beautiful papers and kits! I always love their Christmas themed ones that are new each year!

I have that same dollar tree stamp set. It's one of my favorite sets. I use it a lot. I like that you describe your thought process for what you picked. What kind of crocheted lace do you make? I have thought of crocheting little motifs for junk journals, but haven't done it yet. I don't have experience crocheting with thread (other than some socks I tried to make).
It is funny Andrea, I see that same stamp in several of the challenge videos I have watched. I usually make crocheted lace trim for household linens. Thread takes some getting used to and I have to rest my hands more, but I find it very relaxing.
Anxious to see what you do with these items. I'd be willing to bet that your creation will beat out all of the other! smile.... However, you can't make washi tape without washi paper. Otherwise, it's called decorative tape, not washi tape.
Hmmmm…I don’t know about that, but I do appreciate the confidence in my skills! I knew that the term washi was particular…I just always call it that. But I will try to be more precise!
