- Do you need an idea for transforming plain white paper with color? Do you just want to have fun with mixed media in your junk journal project? I’m sharing a most useful technique to quickly transform your white pages to make them more colorful and useful in a junk journal signature. Shout hello to new, more interesting and more usable papers. Follow along as I use simple acrylic paint to make these plain white Dollar Tree pages simply beautiful! Kathleen, after I watched your first video about the Dollar Tree JJ challenge, I couldn't resist joining in. Thanks for the push. It is always so interesting to watch you transform pages for your journals. This painting technique looks like fun and your results are really beautiful. You DO have images! Use the gardening magazine floral images. They would make beautiful journal pages! Plus you have stamps too. You could also make collage pages with the small package of mixed colored papers you purchased.

I've just discovered your channel and you are such an inspiration! I have so many ideas and can't wait to get to some crafty play! I'm busy working my way through your videos. When you say you dry the papers in the oven, how long for and on what setting? And is that hot you dry the painted papers?
Welcome!! I don’t have a rule because it all depends on how big the stack is and how wet I have made it, and that is different almost every time. When I dry a stack of papers like this I turn the oven very low, just warm really - 180 Fahrenheit because I don’t want to babysit the papers and then I just check them through the day as they dry. If I have time I shuffle the papers as they dry. Thanks so much for all your watchtime.

Thank you Deb! When I do a stack like this, I don’t want to babysit it, so I just put the oven on about 180 Fahrenheit and let it go while I do other things. I check on it and after a while shuffle the papers when I think of it. The time just depends on how many papers are in the stack and how wet I made it, haha. That doesn’t help much does it? Usually done in a few hours or so. I’ve never paid attention to be honest. I just keep checking throughout the day- BUT I keep the oven at warm.

Would it work better adding the blue TO the yellow rather than yellow to blue?
Probably Sandra! Especially with normal paint, but there was just something strange about it. Perhaps they left out something in that batch because it was really more of a glaze than paint, haha. But, you are right. It could have worked better the other way round.
How long do you leave the paper in the oven and what temperature?
Lisa - I set the oven on warm, about 180 degrees Farenheit. But the time is harder to answer. That depends on how many papers are in the stack and how wet they are and it varies every time. That's why I set the oven on low, so that I don't have to stay right there and babysit. I just check on the stack through the day and shuffle the pages as they dry, every now and then.

The temperature is low - maybe 180 - 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The time depends on how wet and how many papers are in the stack.
What did you use to dry your paper?
I use the oven on warm for the stacked sheets with the water Nikki, but the painted ones get dried one at a time with my hair dryer on high, haha. Thanks for coming by!

I am working on the composition notebook from dollar tree - the red lines disappear but nothing happening to the blue lines. Boo hoo!
OH! What a shame. If you have a little ammonia, try adding it bit by bit to see if that helps move the ink. (Mixed with water of course, haha) it might help. You might also try a little acetone in water if you have any fingernail polish remover…Or, try some other papers.
