- For years Beth Rodden was one of the world's best crack climbers. Until a series of injuries shut her down. Now she's climbing back. Presented by Outdoor Research, with music by Abel Okugawa, James And Blackburn, Yosemite, Uncle Rafa, and Zach Winters.

Thanks for the video. I had to leave climbing because of injuries. I was 47. I put my creative energies in other places but never forgot the good times of climbing, the rock, the air, the feeling, and i always thought i would go back to climbing although it never happened . Now at 65 i'm thinking of it again. Looking for easy cracks.
Stay away from cracks and you won't be injured.....probably
I have met Beth a few times at Ironworks in Berkeley, and right now this video is really personal, as I have a major shoulder injury, I do not know if or how I will recover. I don't have sponsors or money to hang out in a beautiful home cooking. This reminds me, I haven't seen Hans Florine since he broke his ankle in 17 places.
The timing of this is perfect for me as i haven't been able to climb for 8 weeks. I've really been struggling recently with staying positive with my injury as the healing process hasn't been as steady as i want. It really helps to hear your story, Beth. Thank you :)
Beautiful, inspiring, emotional I wish you all the best in your climbing life Beth Rodden!
Beth so inspiring! Thank you Beth. Climbing is all we need
We just picked this as our favorite Video this week!
Very inspiring!
I had an industrial accident 27 years ago where i crushed 3 disks in my spine and was lucky to still walk. The road to recovery is very hard when you are deemed worthless by everyone around you, But me being a mountaineer for 20 years back then was having None of it" I never trusted them useless docs anyway" And 10 years later i still climb ice and rock, Pain is real but sometimes that a climber has to get use to it to get what he wants in life, Some people are here to suffer more than others, I guess i am just one of them.
As someone being hindered climbing by injury for some months now I can feel your pain. I really wouldn't wanna go through some years of such a period - chapeau for you enduring this and I hope we once meet in life! Coincidences are a thing :-)
Good to see your climbing again.
Cool to see this video and get some background after having watched several of her Metolious videos over the last few days
Added to favorites! Stay positive, Beth!!
Great to see Beth and Tommy both doing amazing things
Yours will be a story for many to pick themselves up again and get on with life and climbing also.
This gives me some hope! I'm been out with a similar shoulder injury for the past 8 months and almost to the point of giving up climbing. I've replaced my climbing with other outdoor activities, but it's nothing like a nice sport rooute. I haven't seen much PT progress so far, but it's nice to know that it's taken others a long (too long!) time to recover as well. Not that that's a good thing, but it brings hope of recovery to the whole situation.
I always love a comeback story!
Such an inspirational lady, makes me want to try a lot harder at those things that I hold close to me! Thanks Beth for the inspiration, your great! keep your journey going and keep having fun!! See you on the rock one day! :), and i thought she looks about 20!!
You go girl, you're such an amazing climber and you are so inspirational. The fact that you are climbing back (so to speak) is just proof of your total B.A.M.F. status.
Just listening to you makes me want to give you a massive hug and a cuddle.
stoked for you lady.
I’m doing a report on you Beth! This really helped me on it!
I climbed with her at Smith rock and she has some great stories of her life.
Always an inspiriation!
Beth, keep going! I have injured my knee and I know how it is. Stay strong and positive, You are a source of inspiration to me!
You go girl!
Awsome!
Yeah for me its been about 8 months on the recovery process. Reinjured my finger last month though pacing myself improperly :/
Ive actually had this injury for about a year though. I agree, the same emotions and thoughts that were shown in this video have gone through my head. Definitely puts me back in the optimism track though.
She is true champion, awesome!!! model and inspiration
Beth is a WARRIOR 💪
I admire u soooo much
Inspirational
Great job fellow climber. I am 33, I don't think I could do her routes. Cute too, stay strong
Very inspiring
Inspiration
Yeay Beth!
Welcome back.
Inspiring woman!
Good luck!
keep up , listen to your body and dont rush to mutch, would be a shame not climbing again.
Have fun :)
Sorry Beth, I means u so stronger :) love it!
are you not producing anymore?
Accupuncture? You make a stop at the witch doctor for some eye of newt too?
*****
:) Maybe a little powdered rhino horn would help. Too bad it's hard to come by these days.
Beth, wait til you get to your 60's !
Beth, u is very very string
33 if i remimber right :-)
how old is she she looks 40
Sun, wind, and emotions age the skin much faster than simple time. Outdoor climbers, especially poor ones living in cars, etc., no tent, look way older than you think they should. I have a climber friend who is 18 and looks 60.
@@37wolverinedreams lmfao 🤣 you think Beth rodden was a poor climber
But for some it sure helps...
No matter how you put it, climbing 5.14 isn’t easy on the body.
when you get off the ground high enough to place gear on that 5.14 crack tell me again how sick it makes you
tommy upgraded for sure LOL
Use the helmet, people.
cheated on my boy Tommy
In your mid-thirties now, and following a bout of serious injuries, I think it best to cut your losses so to speak. Why risk re-injury, when you know your best years, physically, are starting to decline? There are plenty of other outdoor activities that are infinitely safer and relatively risk free that you could continue with into middle age and beyond. You can't fight age, but you can let wisdom guide you; not enthusiasm.
She's loves this sport very much ,it's hard to walk away from something u really love
You wouldn't understand how ingrained something becomes when you love that thing so much. It's never as easy as "cutting your losses" - that's never an option.
I wonder how it felt to cheat on Tommy?
Yelling is the most annoying thing in climbing
I say adultery/divorce is Simply aweful. Climbing is an activity in life not life itself. Who you are is defined by who you are when you are not climbing or doing other things that gain applause or popularity. Who you are is reflected in your Character, virtues, morality, ...- these are the positive attributes of a good person. YOu can be totally immoral and a evil person and yet be a good climber... that doesn't make you a great person. You can be totally Unaccomplished nobody and be an awesome person. Climbing is fun, its an activity, but its NOt life unless you don't have one! ie.... there is more to life than just climbing
She left Tommy to hook up with a some other dude, now a single mom?! Hope that hook up was worth it ?!?
She's so dam cute
