I think the moment of Sasuke crying in front of everyone is highly underrated. This ball of pride, who always act cool and hide his emotions, just forgot about everything and just crying. No bullshit, no trying to look strong. Just crying his eyes out.
That’s cause all the emotions he’d been holding in came out he held back his love for his brother n turned it to hate so when the truth came out all the love came back up to the top along with sadness he couldn’t keep it in any longer he couldn’t help it ik bc that’s what happens when u bottle up your emotions u explode but in sasukes case he exploded with tears instead of rage
His brother was his only family that he had left. And now that he's going Sasuke truly felt alone. It's emptiness that only one other person with yellow hair can relate to

Just to put some context in the situation so you don’t get confused on Sasuke’s character (because many people at this point did, and they started thinking that he was just an angry boi who didn’t knew what he wanted) imagine this: You spent your whole life reaching for one goal, you sacrifice your happiness, your friends, your home, and even your body to reach this one goal which is killing who you think is the worst person in the world, an egomaniacal douche who slaughtered your whole clan and family, then after killing him you feel empty because like your master once said: “Vengeance will only grant you void, nothing more” but still you’re good with that because you believe you did the world a favor. But it turns out that he was the hero of the story, most of all he was your hero, and the place you used to call home is the one who ordered him to ruin your existence, but your whole life you thought that place was full of pure, innocent and good people. Sasuke at this point is experimenting an existential crisis because everything he ever thought in his life was wrong, and now he wants to annihilate the ones who caused all his pain

Thank you for pointing this out. It's always a shame when people miss what Sasuke is going through in this episode, and where his resolve comes from. It's true that Sasuke is acting directly against Itachi's wishes, yes, but he has good reason to do so. He's not his older brother. Sasuke couldn't understand why Itachi would possibly choose the village over his own family, and Tobi had to explain that it was because of the pacifism he learned seeing the horrors of the Third War. Sasuke didn't have that formative experience. His childhood was one of love and optimism surrounded by a caring family... and everything after that point was violent, single-minded vengeance.
Unlike Itachi, Sasuke doesn't care about keeping the peace. He cares about justice. He cares about avenging the innocence and purity he lost. At first, that meant killing Itachi in the name of his lost childhood. But his childhood was an illusion all along. His noble, law-upholding family were traitors plotting war, his murderous monster of a brother was a true shinobi to the end, and the village he once called home were the ones who made it all happen. Where once he wanted to avenge his clan by killing Itachi, he now wants to avenge Itachi by destroying the Hidden Leaf.
Facts! It's definitely a mine f. To learn that your brother was actually the most kind and gentle person who cared about you deeply. Itachi was merely an actor. You just didn't want to reveal the truth to Sasuke and probably because he didn't know how he would take it or feel about it because the idea itself is very traumatizing
Still one of the best twists in anime imo. Years and years of build up to this from the original Naruto series. What a legend. And barely anyone knew about what he did for his village and for his brother.
You should read the 2 Itachi novels after you finish Shippuden. It goes into a lot more detail than the Anime, and also contains the canon stuff, that the anime changed. Also, someone made a very long fan comic where Tsunade granted Itachi a funeral after Shippuden, with Sasuke's permission, telling everyone what Itachi did for the leaf village and the shinobi world, which is not anywhere in the official Naruto story.

Madara told Sasuke the truth because if Madara didn’t do so, Sasuke would become the hero of the hidden of leaf who killed Itachi and might be back to leaf, which would be just as what Itachi expected. And after Sasuke knew the truth, although he knew that this village was what Itachi wanted to protect, he still decided to destroy it because Itachi’s life is more important than the village to Sasuke now, just like Sasuke was the only one who was more important than the village to Itachi.

Best Plot twist ever! Even I couldnt believe it , but as soon as "Madara" started revealing Itachi's story all made sense, pieces started to click. Haven't seen this kind of turn of events in othere anime.

This is probably the biggest plot twist I have ever experienced in a show. Crazy we all went from thinking Itachi was the worst to realizing he had the worst life possible and cared deeply for the world.
He's definitely the saddest character in the whole show
Itachi's Truth. I already liked his character in OG Naruto but this put him in my top 5. It's Naruto, Itachi, Minato, Kakashi, Shikamaru.
I think one thing that kills me is that the leaf just left Sasuke to his own devices after his family was murdered (by their order) and he was mentally tortured as an 8 year old. He lived alone (like Naruto) and raised himself and then when he finally realizes that the Leaf was never going to do anything to avenge his clan (which we understand why now) he sets out on his own. On top of that, Kakashi, the only trusted adult-figure in his life, tells him to give up on revenge - like Sasuke was just going to let go of the ONLY thing that kept him going in life.
Given this info, I think Sasuke's decision makes sense tbh. Itachi felt loyalty to the leaf; Sasuke feels none. The Leaf did nothing to inspire any positive feelings in Sasuke and they are the sole reason that his entire family was killed. Itachi felt that the genocide of his people was worth it to protect the village but I don't necessarily think he (and by proxy, Danzo) was correct and I don't think Sasuke feels like he has an obligation to fulfill his brother's wishes.
I'm always a little afraid to see people's reaction to Sasuke's decision because it's generally very polarized but I was glad that you seemed to understand his motivations. I don't necessarily like what he wants to accomplish but I think his new goal makes sense when you consider where he is at mentally and the suffering that the Leaf has caused both Itachi and Sasuke.

A bit of correction here:
Itachi saw things Sasuke hadn't. War and innumerable deaths. Their worldviews were vastly different. Itachi was not loyal to the government. He didn't want the war to break out which would have essentially happened had the Uchiha revolted. He could see through the BS of the village, the subtle threats that came his way from Danzo, and inaction of Hiruzen. He hated all of these people.
Eventually, when Shisui died, it broke Itachi's spirit completely and left him with no where to go to. The Hidden Leaf and the Uchiha both used him callously and neither of the sides trusted him.
When the time of the coup came near, he tried to talk his clan out of this, but they were confident about their success and reckless about their failures. Itachi knew what was going to happen - The Uchiha would be killed and then branded traitors.
Danzo/Hiruzen also made it look like it was his moral responsibility to stop the war. If he supported his clan, he'd die too. If he killed them, Sasuke survives. As a 13 year old, vulnerable, lonely and traumatized kid, this was an impossibly cruel choice. He didn't want either of the things to happen. For him both were equally cruel.

People often say "But Itachi wanted to PROTECT the village! Why would Sasuke destroy it then!"
But they just IGNORE what Itachi did. Yes he protected the village, but he placed SASUKE above the village. If they hurt Sasuke, he was going to START the war he prevented by killing his clan. His little brother was MORE important than the safety of all the other people in the entire village. If the leaders screw with Sasuke, he was ignite a war that will cause the deaths of THOUSANDS. That's why it was SO important to Itachi to make Sasuke HATE him. He knew if Sasuke learned the truth, that it was the leaf village's incompetence and abuse to the Uchiha that caused them to rebel and Itachi to be ordered to kill them, then he KNEW all that hatred he wanted to be focused solely on him, would turn to the leaf, the cause of Itachi and Sasuke's pain, but MOSTLY Itachi. He cares about Itachi more than the village.
That was Itachi's plan, blame himself for this tragedy, make sure Sasuke knows, then pretend he left Sasuke alive so he could get stronger, so Itachi could kill him and get ultimate power. Really he wanted Sasuke to kill HIM all along, not only making him stronger with his Sharingan, but also making Sasuke the leaf's hero. When Sasuke killed Orochimaru people were like "Damn, maybe Sasuke is alright." and then after killing Itachi, another MAJOR leaf traitor, they'd WELCOME HIM BACK for sure. As a damned HERO. Remember this, Sasuke HASN'T COMMITTED ANY OTHER CRIMES YET! He left the village, but HE did not hurt anyone in leaving, he was literally unconscious for most of it, (Naruto recovered and he spared his life even) so you can blame all that stuff on Orochimaru. When with Orochimaru we actually find out he doesn't even usually kill criminals, cause he ONLY wanted to kill Sasuke. He didn't kill Team 7 when they went after him, just fought with them a little bit, so he COULD be pardoned for leaving the village. But Tobi exposed the truth, so now all that hatred was AMPLIFIED and turned on the leaf.
Even before I watched Naruto or knew anything other than 5 peoples names (Naruto, Sasuke, Itachi, Kakashi and Gaara) Itachi was somehow my favorite. Finally came around to watching Naruto and it was good to know Itachi did not disappoint. 🐐

The full story of itachi and his parents is the saddest. Im sure you will cry your eyes out
Just to clarify a few things. Uchiha clan used to live in the village before the nine tail attack occured. As the aftermath of the attack, many people lost their home including Uchiha families and the village went after reconstruction. It was then Danzo took the opportunity to put surveillance on Uchiha by placing the Uchiha clan to the outermost part of the village. Even though Uchiha clan wanted to oppose to this decision as they feel it was unfair, their leader Fukagu(Itachi & Sasuke's father) didn't. Instead, he reasoned out his clan members that other clans also accept their own assigned places without complain and if Uchiha were the only one to do so, people will see them in a bad light (even tho they already did seem them negatively). Plus, Itachi like the new place cause it's near to the training ground. Due to isolation of Uchiha clan ground from the village center, Itachi was able to kill all the Uchiha members without alerting other villagers. It was described in the book that the leadership of the leaf arranged two things for Itachi to massacre his clan easily. First, they intentionally chose the day where all Uchiha will be at their respective homes/police force. Secondly, it was their plan for Sasuke to come back late from academy so that they made him stay longer at the academy under the pretence of training.
Based on how the books describe Fugaku, I see him as the leader who was reasonable and never power hungry. (1) During nine tail attack, the leaf higher ends didn't let Uchiha police force to directly engage with the fox despite their ability, since they suspect of Uchiha behind the attack. As we can see in the animation, Fugaku told the other Uchiha police force who wanted to fight the fox that ''the police force will remain within the village and protect the villagers AS THEY WERE ORDERED''
(2) When they were choosing who should be the fourth hokage, Minato (yellow flash) Orochimaru & Fugaku (wicked eyes) were the nominations. The Uchiha clan members wanted and pushed for Fugaku to be the fourth since he is more experienced than the other two and a well known ninja as well. But Fugaku went along with the village's decision of choosing Minato as the fourth.
(3) He didn't object their relocation of Uchiha clan ground despite the complaints of his clan.
But when it comes to the coup, he didn't oppose to the popular opinion of his clan members bcoz if he do so, his leadership will be questioned. The dissatisfaction of Uchiha upon the village leadership is so intense and he know that his clan members will still stage the coup even if he didn't approve. And he thought that Uchiha could succeed this coup under his leadership with the help of his son Itachi.
Even in his final hours, he is a respectable father who didn't want to clash swords with his own son who he is very proud of.

@@tonymack4120 Sasuke and Madara are stronger because of hax. Their source of power comes from outside, like Hashirama cells/Incarnation boost. Itachi as a pure talent is better than both. It's like how Minato is better than Tobirama as raw talent. Without hax, Itachi is by far strongest Uchiha we know of.

It does give a different perspective to the flashback scene of Itachi and the Uchiha police. Back then Itachi’s mockery of the clan and their ignorance sounded like he had gone power mad, insulting the Uchihas for wasting such power on pointless morality. Here it’s Itachi is the moral one. He mocks the clan for their ignorance in not seeing the bigger picture: they are at peace but the clan are willing to wreck it all because of their arrogance and pride.
The whole clan was literally being falsely persecuted for the Kyuubi attack. Their freedom to live where ever they wanted was taken away, Danzo cut the police force budget, and they were being spied on everyday, a clear sign of distrust.

@@_beatnik5994 I understand their suspicion, but they didn’t investigate who exactly attacked Konoha, and then they decided to kill them all, because the Uchihas wanted to retaliate towards the treatment they were receiving. I have a huge feeling if Itachi told the elders about a man claiming to be Madara Uchiha, the clan would’ve probably been spared.

@@_beatnik5994 Danzo had political power and he’s relied on doing do all the ‘darker’ aspects of being Hokage, getting rid of Danzo wouldn’t be easy. I do agree events wouldn’t have happened if Danzo wasn’t in the picture. Hiruzen told the others elders including Danzo to wait, so he could talk to the Uchihas, but Danzo just to f things up by taking Shisui’s eye, and convincing Itachi to kill the clan.

If u actualy want to know , Itachi blindness come with the fact he didn't kill his girlfriend he uses the mangekyo to create an illusion in which she believe she lived with him peacefully for an entire lifespent and she died old and happy with him , that created him the most damage to his eyes.

I hope you understand Saskue’s character as well from this point on because so many people don’t understand his character at all and being someone who understands mental health Saskue is also suffering. If people aren’t into psychology and don’t really understand mental illness than they probably won’t understand his character and I think that’s why so many people don’t like him.
fact here: Itachi was like incredibly high when he fought Sasuke. He took some veeeery strong drugs to lenghten his life for Sasuke to be able to kil him at the end and that drug is enough to get a jonin off of their legs for days what he took on a daily basis.

I understand Sasuke 100%. When i watched this episode i already knew what Sasuke's amibition was next. Uchihas aren't loyal to the village (not all but in general) but they are loyal to the people they love. To love so great like no other.
This is the right way to watch Naruto.
Just think about the shear amount of finesse itachi had to push sasuke hard enough to make it seem like a fight to the death whilst making sure he had enough strength to seal orochimaru and factor in his illness so that he could last long enough to die in sasukes presence

actually, it wasn't Hashirama taking the seat, it was Tobirama, Hashirama's brother, even Madara agreed that Hashirama was the first obvious choice, it was when Tobirama was picked and Favorism was shown to the Senju, did Madara became concerned

Sasuke has massive rage against the Leaf for putting Itachi through so much pain, though he's ignoring that Itachi chose to do it. As for Madara's speech, all he said about Itachi was true. There was one lie he told though. Itachi did say one truth to Sasuke. Also whats interesting is Sasuke's dad while the Uchiha leader was in the same position as Madara before, just flipped. Madara was forced to join the Senju because his people wanted it, so he did. Madara warned his people of their future but was rejected. Later Sasuke's dad had to go through with the revolt as his people wanted it lol. In the end Madara was right.
At this point in the story, nothing's been said about the first great ninja war. In the early 200s of Shippuden, you'll see something from that war, but it's nothing combat related, and just a brief flashback. I don't think there's a problem with me saying that the first war started during a time when the Second Hokage was in power. Anyway, the second war was where the Legendary Sannin distinguished themselves. The third war was where Kakashi got his Sharingan.

Why Sasuke wants to destroy the village, you ask...? Because the village ordered his brother to genocide his own kind after decades of surveillance, discrimination and ghettoization. Just because Itachi is a fool blindly devoted to an evil village which hates his people, doesn't mean Sasuke is the same. If Itachi was a Jew in Hitler's Germany he would've slaughetered the other jews who tried to rebel.
