I can't speak for those who were lost in those battles for nowhere, but as a student of history I am glad that this song was written for the sailors who went down with the ships, the soldiers drowned in the mud, and the pilots who fell to the earth. Those blinded, mutilated and driven insane by what they had seen. Their suffering is not glorious or cause for celebration, but their lives are worth remembering. Not for use as propaganda, but to show the human cost of war, to tell us about the lives forever scarred by the clash of blades, the rip of bullets, and the flames of the war machines.
