Last week was Part 1 of RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa). If you watched that episode, you met Winston, a twenty-five-year-old with Cerebral Palsy who came to RAGBRAI to ride solo. We met him in the breakfast line on the second day and invited him to ride with us. Little did we know that we would ride all the way to the Mississippi River with him! Trish found her stride in this episode. In part 1, we followed the crowd to the RV dry camping area, only to be asphyxiated by fumes. It didn't take long to learn that you don't want to be the only person not running a generator in the generator lot! After night one, we realized that we were better off taking the path less traveled. When planning for RAGBRAI, we didn't know what to expect. We had no reservations and no idea how close to the starting line we needed to be. As it turned out, if we camped roughly 15 minutes from the "overnight town," we would be fine. There were many options within that distance, and as the ride continued, it only got easier to find campgrounds with power, water or both. Trish became more comfortable handling the RV set-up process, even if it took a few tries. This is why traveling by RV is so rewarding. Unlike a traditional vacation, an RV adventure can be empowering, giving us a sense of accomplishment.

I am a solo traveler with a Basecamp 20X and believe me things I use to worry or goover in my head are easy peasy now. Now it is harder stuff like taking out the rig after a service appointment and get weird electrical stuff happening (I have solar) and so I got a campsite with hookups and I figured it out. The service tech didn't put my switches on after they were done. Great learning lesson for sure. WE CAN DO HARD THINGS, DON'T FORGET IT...EVER. HEADING TO ALUMNAPOOLZA in Jackson Center tomorrow. I love this video great job all around

What a fun adventure! And it was great to see Trish ride - But I gotta ask: the day she did, who got the rig to the next camp??
Trish and Deb moved our truck to Des Moines and we drove it back and then we hooked up the Airstream and moved it back. That 50 mile day by bike was only 35 miles on the Interstate.

I’m RV’ing alone, I sold the farm after losing my husband suddenly. Bought I house I was too alone in, selling that and I’m in my camper van with my shepherds and parrot.
So sorry for your loss but man, you’re a brave lady. What kind of parrot do you have? I have a Quaker, just love her to pieces!

Oh my what an episode! This is one where we gathered the family together and restarted just to so we could be reminded that indeed through Christ we can endure all things. Winston was inspiring on so many levels. Thank you for sharing and letting us get a glimpse of what a life in Christ can look like, full of joy, compassion and endurance. Just an all around beautiful couple of videos. Places can inspiring, but people, even more so.

Everyone thinks Iowa is flat. It is not! It is full of rolling hills. This video really shows off the state, its not just for flying over! Its a beautiful place with beautiful people.
A KYD bike jersey should be considered to commemorate this years bike rides. After watching your adventures I feel like I participated in the trips!

Does airstreams not come with leveling jacks? That would help on solo days for sure.

No leveling jacks. Their Airstream has stabilizing jacks, but they aren't made to support the weight of the trailer. Use blocks under the tires and tongue jack to level it.

Riding with that many people, there was a close call nearly everyday. I was quite happy to start out with Winston's prayer.

Trish love that not knowing where Iam going that's me 100 % since my husband Passed away early 2020 took me 2 years to get our studebaker hot rod back on the road that we built now driving to local car shows getting back to driving the truck we loved so much and seeing old friends that only see at car shows so many people asking who drove the truck we have 502 V8 it has a great rumble when you start ! But the ones asking me the question not our true friends we built it so seats are adjustable so both of us could drive best thing a couple can do is both can drive the vehicle! Love driving the truck brings back our most favorite thing we did together in our 21 years ! So got this girl just need to find a group to travel a little further then the local shows but maybe next year ! Do have a for sale sign in it but will take couple years to sell Old Stud ! But that's okay going do a photo book on our very custom truck to keep the truck immortalized in a small way !

I’m a solo full time RV traveler (Momentum 21G toy hauler) and I’ve been on the road for coming up on 2 years now! It’s definitely challenging at times, but also crazy empowering and you learn just how strong you are ❤

Today he stopped at the Sign Post Forest, found a spot for his sign! Left the forest but went back later to find You Tuber signs, he located your sign . . KYD 🎉 👏 Stay Safe!

My husband is a 22 time triathlon finisher, Kona half Ironman & twice finisher of the Escape From Alcatraz finisher. I have seen some beautiful places, total forced! Not! You are correct Trish, the atmosphere is electric at these events and we have met some of the most awesome people and have lifetime memories. ❤️

It’s always fun trying to retract the awning in a windstorm! A while back, I made the rookie mistake of leaving the awning out when I went to bed. Around midnight, a massive windstorm hit and I jumped out of the trailer into a foot of water and managed to get the awning in before it ripped off the trailer! Great video as always! 🇺🇸 18:15

Buddy from my ride club did this. They tented it. Bruce said by day 4, the magic was gone and it became a slog. Hot days and hot nights where they didn’t sleep well. He said you could tell the people who were RV’ing it. They were bright and fresh every morning. I’d like to do it that way as well, but so far, I’m the only one who drives the truck pulling our 5er.
I wish you could post your Strava. I’d love to see your stats. All the avg. and elevations, etc…. That would be cool!!
Andy and Winston tented it. I really wish I would have shared their journey. I agree. Day 5 and 6 were harder and not even the harder days. It was hot though - starting at 5am was key. I'd love to share Strava, but it give away too much location info. I'll find another way.

That was so awesome!!! You obviously had a super great time on this adventure. Enjoyed seeing how you all rode together as a team, the camaraderie among the riders and how you watched out for Winston, Trish's absolutely amazing rving/support skills, and can I just mention the food/Ragbrai support from the townspeople along the way? Just Wow!! Such an amazing conclusion to a fantastic summer before Caleb went off to college, and what a great memory for him and you. Thanks so much for sharing all of this with us. It really was a blast!

Love you guys! I moved my family from Southern California to Huxley, Iowa (my wife and three boys). So before work I was able to say hi to Caleb on your guys way to Slater from Ames! Huge culture shock moving from a big city to small town Iowa, but towns like Slater and the people of Iowa are amazing! It was very cool to watch your video of the areas we are coming to know so well! Sad I missed you Mark and Trish! Next time stay at our place, we have RV parking… lol

Been following you for years! A true Iowan experience is Ragbrai, Iowa State Fair then Old Threshers! Camping at all 3 different events.
Great video(s)...I've ridden RAGBRAI a couple of times and it was really fun. I'd like to ask a question about wintering in AZ. My wife and I are from North Dakota, and did our first winter trip last year and stayed in Camp Verde for a little more than a month in an RV resort. We had a great time, and would like to return to AZ or somewhere in the southwest and stay at another RV resort. Do you have any suggestions for a fun/warm rv resort? thanks again, we watch your videos religiously each week, and enjoy each one...especially the ones that star Caleb and Charlie!
Trish, you are my hero and an inspiration!!! This video cemented the fact that I need to be brave and take the test to get licensed to drive our RV, like my husband has been saying for years. My husband could really use a help mate at times. Watching you handle it like a pro gave me a big boost of motivation. ❤

Great video. I did the ride in 2018 and the nostalgia may make me do it next year. My favorite memory in 2018 was the line up of older folks on the sidewalk in wheelchairs with squirt guns. I almost crashed getting close to all the smiles with super soakers.

This video was so much fun...lots of great energy from all of you, I did this ride this year and it was tough , hot , windy and it was brutal to sleep in a tent in that heat. You all were very wise to have the set up and the sag. Great stuff. Cheers and congratulations on finishing.
You should try a ride on the Natchez Trace between Tennessee and Mississippi. I'm not sure about sanctioned events but its a beautiful area

If you want a real challenge, do the Double Triple Bypass in Colorado. Tour de Tucson is a great one day ride too
If you would have ridden this route last year, in your Mason City stay, you would have been about a mile from my house.
“Drag it through the garden” is a description of adding lettuce and tomato to a hamburger at The Varsity in Atlanta.
It's so funny seeing so many bikers wearing helmets when in many states motorcyclists don't need to wear a helmet.

Trek Domane 7SL, Emonda 6SL and Trish is on a Domane+ SLR
I have been looking forward to seeing this video ever since Cary told me it was upcoming in June. I took a trip from Seattle to Necedah with my 16 year old daughter. Needed a roof rack added for my iKamper. Had many upgrades a bit of maintenance done while I was there. Many conversations with Cary and a few with Craig. What a great pair they are and a fantastic crew they have building these works of functional art. Almost 4,000 miles and the 2 days we spent at Camp-Inn in the “Teardrop Campground” were some of the best times we had. Lifelong memories made on this trip with my not so little girl. Can’t say enough about the owners and the crew and the hospitality we were shown while they brought my 560 Ultra back to better than new! Reasonable and fair on everything they did. I love my Camp-Inn. Great video Drew, I look forward to the rest of your footage with the good folks at CI.

I am just back from my 7th solo trip. Got my RV in April and I'm making it happen. Not easy, have had to ask for help several times, but I'm doing it! Seriously considering a Class C though 🙂
2 suggestions for a "next". 1... Erie canal to Albany then to NYC or 2... Adventure Cycling's northern tier.
