Mapping: Animation form where countries talk to form some kind of narrative, including wars.
Geovideos: A video (usually Shorts) showing a map with some kind of data.

I have some notes for this video so I’ll number them.
1.) one of the biggest reasons it isn’t fun anymore, it’s because people weren’t mapping. They were just tracing, and copying maps from Reddit or textbooks.
2.) all “mapping” videos are the same and there is no new formats. All the videos are just nature and a png map of Europe.
3.) almost all videos are just European mapping and while Europe has good history and topics if thousands of people make maps of Europe for 2 years there will be no new information.
4.) people make dumb maps like “has your country eaten a prime minister” and while these topics are interesting they only highlight one or two countries and it makes it so there’s no reason to make a map for it.
5.) TH-cam shorts mapping isn’t actual mapping like I said before. Mapping is doing research and putting it into a map. So just do your own research and because nobody does this you’ll be making interesting and new videos.
6.) mappers are also leading into cringy troll face memes, and 13 year old edgy jokes.
7th: mapping is easily vulnerable to be used as a content farm.
8: People are racist

The reason why the mapping community is falling apart is because of no ideas and toxic members. There is no point of saving a community in flames.

It is the same it is for me I put my option on Europe and I got hated for it and I am slowly going away from mapping because I get hated on the internet for it.
For me mapping is not getting pushed to the algorithm, and I am keep getting less than 1k views per vid
The new mapping style has degenerated, that's it. The low quality one PNG shorts are bad, and they are all politicised. The community as it was before the Shorts plague consisted of high quality historical and alternate history videos with actual plots. Countries had identities, they had emotions, the shows always ended with climactic wars. The new era is about low-quality "What does ____ think about ____?" and weird edits.
This degeneration of quality leads to a disloyal community, since everyone goes from one channel to another since they're all the same. Your videos are an example of that, if you want references. Check Korean Mapping, Wonderwaffle Mapping, etc. I feel sad that a sophisticated era of mapping has evaporated into nonsensical garbage.

@@IgorusekkThe problem is that geotubers call themselves mappers, and when they are exposed to a much larger audience than actual OG mappers such as myself, they begin to redefine it as the trashy, low-effort content like described.
I’m kinda glad they are quitting since this type of mapping feels like content farms. There is rly no effort put into them and it always says at the top “Map of Asia 2024” like we already seen a picture of Asia’s map in 2024. And it’s ALWAYS a map of Europe or Asia. No other continent. They never use Africa, the americas, Australia (and ig there is a reason for Australia) but yeah.
One day we will get back to where it started. I will probably try something to revive the old style mapping and actually be inspiration for newcomers… if the times get better than what they are now.
The geotubers’ edits have given me epilepsy and I totally recommend it to watch them with 3 pairs of sunglasses on your eyes, and on top of that slow down their videos by 0,1x because you can barely read anything from those edits that even the spices in the Indian cuisines are not that much.
Enfe hasn't quitted, I saw he had hearted a comment in his last short which said that he has only taken a brake due to exams.

I started mapping in May 20, 2024, and I like it. I can see why everyone is leaving. Mapping videos brought a lot of attention to my channel, but I wanted to do animation, but that brings barely any views, unfortunately. I still do animations, if anyone wondering. We have to kind to everyone, even if they don't agree to your opinion.
Its kinda ironic considering that there was a much more popular variant of mapping a while ago, but that died out, and then this variant started and now everything is dying out. The cycle repeats again...
It's not dead. It's just well past its prime.

As a mapper, It’s the painstaking and time consuming in editing that pushes me to the edge.
Also about the opinion thing, I’m a moderate, I see both sides, hate some parts of both, and like some parts of both. 0:12 it is boring because maps are overexposed to people so much that they don't get provoked. Of course you have to expect a fall in views when it's repetitive. And they might've gotten a job better than shorts/tiktoks/reels?
0:24 of course you have to expect trolls and Twitter people. AFAIK, trolls stay when they always get a response. Also Twitter people will stay there possibly forever as the algorithm pushes them, just don't respond to unnecessary arguments and they will stop, with the risk of thinking the community sucks. They actually help the people creating the videos since it brings attention.
0:36 the trolls aren't gonna stop unless the community actually stops responding to them. Also it's very hard to make people watch your long form content when doing short form content. So this is the worst way to teach people not to do it, the way to fix it is just post it as short form content. But if they still start unnecessary arguments, ignore them.
0:55 don't take a break, as you might lose your fan base. Also AFAIK the 99% sure bias is when someone say they're 99% sure, but they are usually only 60% correct.
1:11 continue long form content on a second channel, it's very hard to make your current fan base watch your long form content. Also it could hurt your channel as they would probably scroll past.
Conclusion: your way of coping is the same as yandere dev's way of coping.
The data mapping community could've been doomed from the start since people with low attention spans wouldn't have time to read them before scrolling to the next. Maybe data maps are only meant for nerds that have a 6 minute attention span.

This is why use MapChart and make your own scenarios, I call that addiz pro styled mapping/Addiz Mapping for short, cuz addiz pro (he is a VERY popular mapper) does that but not MapChart, and Somtimes it’s even other stuff, it’s what I wanna be, in my first ever MapChart mapping (war game 1) I creditited him at the start for the idea, Addiz mapping is a great idea for new mappers! I highly recommend, it’s really easy to do!
