  • I know, I'm a genius with that gas tank idea and I'm going to patent it. jk, but wow this has been a really cool project and I'm very thankful for everyone at the CX500 forums for helping me get this bike apart, diagnosed, fixed, and running again.

I got given my father in laws 8 CX650E he bought it when it was only a few years old and used it to get to work and back each day, its been around the clock + 30,000km and has a seemingly never ending supply of annoying little faults. :-) (That fuel really does look like detergent :-)) the fuel i use here in NZ, 98 octane, is purple or red)

New to your channel, I am currently trying to bring a cx500 back as close to 100% as possible!
Just looking for your opinion: I have cleaned my carbs over and over and over. Have checked for cracks, have put them through ultrasonic cleaner, and got in to every jet. I’ve purchased Larry’s carb book and still, there is a pop coming from the bike’s exhaust. Thoughts?
Will continue binging through your uploads as I go through my project. Best!

Hey I appreciate it! Man, I wish I were some sort of mechanical wizard but I'm not, just a dude who is also learning about bikes and putting my adventures on TH-cam. My only thought it that it's a backfire from maybe running too rich? I heard that my popping sound was from my carbs not being 100% cleaned, but I have since cleaned them again and have ran a bit of seafoam through them along with ethanol free gas and that seems to have sorted it out.
