I used to watch the Leyland Brothers in Melbourne and now from Billings Montana USA. I was only talking about your programs yesterday. Strange isnt it.

I did this exact trip with a good mate of mine in 1983 just after the rails and sleepers had been salvaged by scrappers, there was no track to follow, we drove along the ballast for most of the way except where sand had covered the tracks or property owners had already fenced over the rail right of way, sometimes making lengthy detours along fence lines until we found a gate to get through. Each night was a camp fire fueled by rejected sleepers left behind by the scrappers. It took us 7 days to travel from Oodnadata to The Alice with only a detour out to Chambers Pillar. I believe the trip and navigation notes we made of the event were used by 4wd clubs for years until a useable track became established.

Shit I thought I was having acid flashbacks, yes who didn’t love watching this in the 80s. Very good.

Jesus where is this again because I’ve been right up to Darwin and back down through Adelaide and none of this was there it was all flat through the back of Queensland and all the way down through the centre was nothing but felt sandy ground no one tree and no rocks or grass, we went by bus and for 3 days each way we didn’t see anything like this.
