Yes of course. Maybe I should also release vids of unsuccessful repairs. ;-) The worst starting condition resulting in a potentially unsuccessful repair is imo 1) corrosion and 2) previous work on the pcb by someone else who was unsuccessful. I also remember one repair that I actually started to do a video about that was about an Atari Centipede pcb - multiple times when the game was finally running it only worked for about 30 mins then something else failed... I ended replacing 10+ completely independant ics and then I finally gave up. This pcb was cursed I guess. ;-)
When using the Fluke 9010A and you get a DCD error or BTS error and there is a stuck bit internally inside a ROM chip or RAM chip, what is your test procedures to "isolate" using the fluke 9010A which ROM or RAM chip stuck bit and address it bad?
Question: Is there a video out there that shows what equipment to buy for beginners? Specifically, I'm looking to buy a logic probe set up to troubleshoot and Outrun PCB that I have. If not, please consider making one! Thanks and take care!
So far I only did repair videos for arcade pcbs because I always though that it would be most effective to learn about arcade repair by fixing an actual random dead pcb - like learning by doing. Maybe I'll add some basic tutorial like videos in the future. A video about the basic beginner workbench setup would be interesting. It could cover logic probe, multimeters and also soldering/desoldering tools and also basic mechanical tools (ic grabber, tweezers, sidecutters, loupe etc).
Ah I don't have this exact problem, but after seeing your video what I do know I have is a glitched "sprite layer". One half of the title screen is glitched out and so are all the in game sprites. This is more info to help me :)
Thank you for your comment, yes the sprite layer is actually used to display part of the DD title screen - namely the dragon graphics. Just get the schematics and try to figure out what is going on! You might want use a logic probe to do so.
Hi, I watched all your videos and they are really great and I learned a lot from them, i have one question, i have DD pcb which had Error 63701, which was caused by the ram on ic 22, changed that and error was gone, after I noticed graphics issues, where i can sent you some photos so you can check and maybe help me where to look, one thing i know that Rom Board below is good, that i know because i have another DD, Hope to get replay from you and help me
You make things look super easy, can you please tell me if you know anything about mk1 pcb board, i have flickering pixels on start screen and some levels. Thank you
I have been working on a mk1 board before. I actually own a mk1 cabinet. But the problems I had were all sound related and all the problems were located on the extra sound pcb. If there is graphical problems only in some areas of the game / some levels and some are completely fine this could mean that there is a problem with a certain eprom that comtains the corresponding graphical data. If you have an eprom reader you could check your eproms against the mame roms. I think this is how I would start if I were to try to fix this.
Top quality work my friend, more please.
Love to learn and see repair videos like this! It's preserving these games. Thanks for adding to the arcade community for a good cause!
Thank you very much! You are right, repairing the old stuff is preserving these games, and it's fun, too!
Excellent trouble-shooting. It's fun to watch you work through things logically.
i love arcade repair vids, this is great stuff.
The relaxed determination on these repairs is great! Just wondering, have you ever encountered a pcb that you couldn't repair for some reason?
