UE4.26 Simulate a Cloth Flag

  • In this video we'll use Unreal Engine 4.26 to create a cloth simulation on a portion of a mesh. This method can be used for a variety of cloth simulations on characters or meshes that are unrigged, such as the one shown here.

    This is a great tutorial! I am wondering if anyone has a good reference or video on how to make the actual flag texture/material. I get how to make an opacity mask but am interested on how to get this kind of look in general.

    love it, thank you man. But one thing. Let's say you have two different objects. First one is a rigid object and the second is the cloth. Both both objects are individual meshes.
    For example: 1. Mesh is a Sphere . 2nd Mesh: The Cloth. Let's drop the cloth, so it will react to the first mesh. There is no process that describes that. In your example, you use one simple mesh, the pole plus the fabric for the flag. But how to do that, if the pole and the flag itself, are two individual skeletal meshes?

      Thank you! I imagine you found the answer to your question already, but in case not, from memory I used the joint tool in Maya. Blender can do the same thing with Armatures. :)

    hello Sir can you help me how to add wind in my cinematic scene ? its only blowing when i hit play, but when i start recording its not acting. what do i miss out ? i have my wind source actor in my cinemativ level sequencer but it dosent change anything. thanks

    Can cloth get wet I mean if you touch the water with cloth it will gets wet like in grand theft auto 5 and red dead redemption 2

    may i ask if 4.26 is using the new chaos physics for cloth simulation now?

      Hi Tommy, yes this uses the new Chaos solver which replaces the NvCloth solver. Further details can be seen in the Skeletal Meshes' Clothing panel, under Config -> Cloth Configs -> ChaosClothConfig and ChaosClothShared where a number of cloth properties can be adjusted. The Chaos Cloth plugin will also need to be loaded.

    Hopefully this is still active. I'm at 1:50 in the video and at the stage where you right click to create clothing data, I cannot seem to get any right click menu to appear. Is there something wrong with the mesh or is there some silly reason why I am unable to select?

      Make sure "Section Selection" is selected/highlighted orange first! Its the button on the top bar with a T-posing mannequin icon.

    What i would have rather seen, was how to export that flag from blender, and not Maya, 3DS or anything else autode$$$$k since i no longer have licenses for any of them. and exporting/importing skeletal meshes from blender is.. well painful in my experience, sections missing, etc etc.
