I purchased mine from Ikea about 9 years ago on a sale after Valentine’s Day not even knowing that it actually is a leave cutting :D For 7 years it was always looking the same. No matter what I did. I even managed to not water it for months and it wouldn’t show any signs of change...At times I even thought it was a fake plant. Two years ago, for some reason I decided to repot it and all of the sudden after a month or so there was a little stem peeking through the soil :) today I have a 50cm high Hoya kerii sitting on my window sill!

@@erickagurrrhx3 Mine came in a itty bitty pot. I repotted into a pot that was the depth of my windowstill, and watered consistently. The mainleaf died back, but up came a new sprout that must gave been of a nod beneath the soil. It grew quite large, and quite fast once it got going, actually. Single stem only though.

I got really lucky when I bought 2 single leaf Hoya Kerrii. One of them is still just a cute little heart leaf. The other popped out two nodes within a few weeks! I now have 2 new leaves and 2 on the way from the new nodes! In about 6 weeks the leaves have grown to 2/3 the the mother leaf. I've heard this almost never happens. It has definitely been a fun highlight to such a crazy 2020. :)

Hey Summer! Richard here from the Philippines. About those single hoya kerrii leaves that they sell planted in a pot, I have friends who have actually bought those and kept and cared for them for years. They say theirs eventually put out a sprout but it took 3 years for it to happen 😂. Hope that helps!

In my native region of Malaysia, there is actually a notable Hoya species called Hoya caudata which resembles lichen/moss covered leaves which gives it a silver splatter effect on the leaves. Others worth mentioning include Hoya imperialis (known for its stunning blooms), Hoya elliptica( looks like painted 6 packs), Hoya lacunosa(flowers resembling weird, fuzzy Chamomile), Hoya latifolia (huge, lengthy leaves and some are variegated), Hoya multiflora( flowers resembling shooting stars), Hoya sussuela (has stunning blooms almost like Hoya imperialis) and many others. The world of Hoyas is truly filled with wonders. :)

I bought one for my office desk that was one leaf in a very small pot about 6 years ago. It was just that one leaf for a good two years, then it started growing like crazy once it was no longer in an office basement with only fluorescent light, but now in an upstairs office with natural light. Mine wasn't trained to grow up so it's spreading out, it now has 15 leaves and I've been thinking about propagating it. However, I read that a mature plant will bloom around 5-7 years so I am going to wait another years before cutting it. The babies I'll be training so the stem goes up rather than sprawling all over my desk. I also read that most Hoya Kerrii cut to one stem don't typically survive, and if they do they take at least two years to start growing a stem (what I read was exactly what I experienced). However, this baby survived in a basement office room for two years with no natural lighting so they are very very hardy even if it wasn't growing it wasn't dying.

The gateway plant to full blown hoya addiction! If you get a single leaf cutting you will need three things in abundance to get it to grow & branch off: time (& lots of patience), tons of bright light and constant high humidity. I've had the best results placing them in enclosed containers until they get established. Just be sure you don't cook it in direct sun!

I was going to remove it and pot it as I thought that was how they were meant to be but thought I’d look online first, thank goodness I did. I bought a single leaf Hoya Kerri when I first saw it. Honestly I didn’t even know much about it besides that I loved and wanted to make it my child 😂 I read that it won’t really grow, which was fine by me. It looked really cute in my pot so I was happy. Then out of no where a few weeks after I bought it, something started to sneak out of the ground. Next thing you know after awhile longer I noticed it growing another heart....which confused me. When I did more research apparently it’s supper rare or doesn’t happen because it sends on if it has a stem or not. I guess mine ended up having one, but I never checked. I wish I had now so I could tell people if they grow or not without a stem, but at the time I didn’t know much about it or what to research

  • @Arokhantos

I bought one with 2 leafs in 1 pot start of the year, i seperated them to check if had stem only to be disapointed it had no stem at all it was just 2 leafs put into a small container, i decided to yolo it and put it in 1 part perlite 2 parts cacti soil in 7 cm dm clay pot and put it in my suniest window that gets 10 hours of direct sunlight as its a sky light rest of the day bright indirect light, just couple of minutes ago i checked and i discovered a vine, i guess you can grow these by single leaf, if kept the humidity around 50 to 60% altho it dips below 40% if the sun hits and airconditioning is full blast with temps around 38 39c under my window during heatwave mostly ignored it watered it monthly more or less.
Im so happy now that i ignored information on the internet and just tryit anyway, cant wait for it to flower.

People need to beware of the growers simply plunging a detached leaf into soil: those will never become a plant. If you look carefully at it and they have planted a stem node with the leaf attached into the soil, then those can grow into an actual plant. Personally, for the money, I would wait and buy an actual plant, not those gimmicky valentine sale single leaf pots.

I've grown 2 keriis from a single leaf, one I got in ikea (for under 1 eur lol) and it was stuck in flower foam instead of soil and somehow I was lazy enough to leave it that way for like 2 and a half years, then it suddenly grew into a plant. And the second one was a broken off leaf from this plant, I stuck it in soil in winter and now in summer after 6 months it started growing. Most people just probably don't want to wait that long, tho it's a very fast grower and it goes from nothing to something I don't know what to do with very quickly.

I made the mistake of buying just the leaf in soil once. I had it for two years and the only thing it ever grew was roots. Never again. I now have a small collection of hoyas that are doing well. I have a difficult time with the watering though, as I am over-waterer. I hate the thought of them going dry, but I am slowly allowing myself to leave them be. They seem happy enough. I think I did over-water one pot of about a half dozen little cuttings though, the leaves developed black spots and started dropping off. One of them managed to survive and has brought me a new leaf, happy about that :) Thanks for your videos, I've learned a lot from you.

I bought mine from an online source that came with a node. However, it looked like the original cutting was just a buried leaf, and the node was a branch off from it. Now, mine has grown 4 new leaves and loves the cactus soil I used. However, one of my new leaves stayed small, yellowed, and fell off. Any idea why a new leaf wouldn't develop and die?

I received this plant a few years ago. It had only one heart. It grown quite tall with many hearts. It’s over 2 feet tall now and it will be touching the ceiling soon(it’s on a cabinet because the cats think they should be able to chew on it). Can I cut it back or should I just let it do it’s own thing once it hits the ceiling?

It's almost endearing that you don't know the struggle of the single leaf kerrii 😅 I feel pretty lucky to of never bought one either. Recieved one as a goodbye gift. It did nothing for the first couple months & then exploded with tons of new growth this summer 😍

Hi! I just got a single leaf hoya, and having read the comments I'm already preparing to wait for 7 years for them to grow leaves :D But the problem is that the leaf got damaged during delivery. There's a crack left to right through the entire leaf. The leaf still holds together, and I've tried to fix it up with something, but I'm afraid that the upper part won't get enough water and nourishment, and the leaf will die. Is there a way to fix broken hoyas? Is there a chance at all it will grow back together? I'm okay with it not growing new stems, I just don't want it to die altogether :(

My Hoya has black spots on the under side of the leaf. Does anyone know what causes that?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Natalie Crews Mine also has some black spots on some leaves and from which can be a natural occurrence with these types...just as long as your not noticing any infection like symptoms (yellowing in the leaves, weakening of the plant or severe blackening) then it should be okay. If you do notice signs of infection or some other concerning factors I would either, repot, disinfect (with antiseptic or fungicide, treat for insects or do all three, of course just depending on what is needed. I have a pretty nice collection and plan on doing some care tips and tricks in future videos. Good luck with yours and HAPPY GROWING!

Hello. I bought the one single leaf recently and it grows a new leaf. I have a concern because the new leaf is curling. I know that new leaves tend to be very thin. Btw- the new leaf is just 1 month old. So maybe is normal?!?!
