    This channel is an entry level turntable channel. You can call them rubbish, but entry level turntables at decent prices are what introduces people to vinyl records. A good host makes this channel too. We're ready to get those 45 adapters! I assume they are metal, since you always decry the cheapy plastic ones that come with most turntables. Santa earned his pay, or cookies, with you crushing his knee. Another great video!

    If you close the lid while it's playing, does the tonearm hit the lid when it's raised? That's the big problem I had with the VPRO-3100 I reviewed back in 2018. I had the lid closed when it auto-returned, and it left a big scratch on the underside of the lid as the tonearm scraped it! I alerted Victrola to the problem and they said they were going to redesign it, but since you mentioned the tonearm raises up unusually high, unfortunately I don't think they fixed the problem. And you're right, what looks like a strobe light is purely decorative.

      Ya I think it’s still way too high. Would need to check to see about the lid.

      Mine didn't have this issue with the auto return. It would go higher with the lift button but when returning it would raise lower to not scratch the dust cover

    Thank you for taking us all through camp Christmas! I really did enjoy that.
    You and Mrs Recordology would be a hoot to sit around the fire and share vinyl stories. I boy do I have……
    one or two 😂
    Merry Christmas to you and yours.
    P.S. I can’t wait to get my hands on the purple 45 recordology turntable adapter!! I really don’t like the one that came with my Audio Technica turntable. 😊

    The cheap plastic from the back looks marred and scratched. Its a mock strobe. I don't like the cueing, yes too high, but a bit Jerky coming down and going up.

    Hey one thing don't know if anyone else could hear but when the stylus wasn't in contact on the direct feed test there was some audible clicking and hiss. I think the preamp might be picking up interference or something. Looks promising tho. Kind regards

    FYI, I just checked Amazon. At the time of this posting (12/7/2022) they have the silver one for sale for only about $50, which is half of the usual $99! Definitely worth grabbing one at that price if you are interested in this unit and don't mind the silver. Seems the black ones, like the unit shown here, are still about $120.

    I’m getting back into vinyl. I haven’t had any since I was a teen in the early 80s. I’m quite sure that this will sound better than the inexpensive turntable I had then. At this price point it’s worth a try and I know I can get this locally at a brick & mortar.

    That 'strobe' may be electronic/optical feedback to a motor speed control circuit, similar to the 'slot' arrangements under the platters of the Target Heyday and Best Buy Insignia 'tables. It looks too subdued (and in the wrong place) to really be just 'eye candy'. I'd need to see the inside of the turntable to be sure, though.
    I'm a bit disappointed with that 'nylon bushing' spindle assembly. It's the same type found in Skywin mechanisms. I prefer the actual rotating bearing setup found in the LP60 and similar. Not particularly enamored with that flimsy tone arm pivot, either. But considering the price, nobody should realistically expect anything that fancy. That said, the feature set for this price is pretty extensive.
    I was clued in by that it was a semi-auto by the absence of a record size selector.
    That shiny colorful 45 adapter looks keen (and vaguely familiar, lol!). Is it metal?
    Have a wonderful holiday!

    I saw VWestlfe review this TT several years ago he said it was a ok TT but he had an issue with tonearm raising up to high that when lid was closed it scratched as it returned after the record was done he spoke to a company manager and they wrote him back saying they would address it but I see they did not fix it at all and he tried to fix it himself but could not. I am upset about this they treated VWestlife like (yeah yeah we will take care of this ) I thought Victrola was better than this I would be upset if you talked to them and they say we will fix it to and do nothing ,to me victrola is not a co I would buy from now you are helping them by reviewing their TT to help future customers choose to buy the TT if they can't respect you and especially VWestlfe which in my opinion you guys are the only video program I enjoy watching on electronic devices then they should go to hec!!! I would like to see if you talk to them about the cueing on tonearm and see what they say what excuse they give and I will admit it looks better in black the one VWestlife had was silver and like he said if victrola could fix this one issue that it would be a good first time TT to buy ,this was a very good review on not to buy this TT or any of their products JRo📀

    It did sound like there was some kind of crackle while you were changing tracks - when the needle wasn't on the record; was this just a case of static, or not? It also featured during the tracks playing. It was most noticeable via the direct feed. Just saying!

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good catch! The audio and video are recorded separately and sometimes I don’t sync it perfectly in editing.

    That tonearm goes down way too fast! Ps Hooking up to a mono speaker is probably not the best way to test the sound, although the direct feed test will check stereo!! Happy Christmas! 🎄

    Hello. I have a question; I just bought this turntable but the needle does not go down to the record and cannot touch it, for it to reach the surface I have to press what is under the arm. What can be done in that case? Another question: does this turntable require a preamp?
    Thank you.

    Victrola seems to be on the lower end of spectrum when it comes to material quality. I think even Crosley is a step up at this point. Hopefully the tonearm cuing height can somehow be adjusted on the unit. It's set way too high which seems to effect the accuracy of the needle drop point. It seemed to me that the needle seems to bounce when contacting the record. This comes down to a lack of quality control from the factory. A plastic platter will do the job but it does not help in maintaining consistent speed. If I am correct, at the $120 price point for this unit makes me think for a few more dollars you could find a comparable unit that is better quality then this unit.

  • @pschaida
    @pschaida ปีที่แล้ว +1

    OH My! I assume VWESTLIFE, will most likely chime in on this one. He tested the silver version of this same unit, and uncovered some serious shortcomings. Folks should watch that review before considering this Victrola. OK, good sound? Really? I thoroughly auditioned several of these, and suspect the tone arm drags across its travel axis. This is essentially something you may not really notice until you sample a demanding recording. What I discovered on all samples was a audible distortion at the higher frequencies of such content rich, high quality recordings. This distortion is thankfully absent from the Audio Technica, and the somewhat Cheesy but similar Crosley units. Both utilize the same AT-3600L series magnetic cartridge. At a sale price of $49.95.(Suggested Retail is a reasonable $119.) Well, no wonder it's being discounted! this discontinued Victrola model that is being closed out for under $40, in the silver. . As always, I really enjoy your reviews, but please advice your subscribers, that they probably should give this flawed unit a miss.

I don’t have much knowledge on turntables in general and i got this as a gift haha. i’ve tried these logitech speakers, along with getting a separate RCA cable, but the music still won’t play louder/play through them
