I'm always stoked when I find another one of these IMSA GTP or WSC Group C races.

I loved watching the GTP Corvette and the Group 44 Jaguar, the Vette had over 1000 HP at full booth but would break half shafts and CV joints because of the torque and who could not like the sound of the V12 Jag?

Once upon a time I talked with the engine builder for the GTP Corvette, Ryan Falconer, and he told me he tested the 3.0L V6 turbo up to 1300 hp. Don't know how much they tried to race it at that output, but that is plenty stout.

The last great hurrah of Group 44 in IMSA GTP.

Hurley ran a great finish, and took Chip at the exact right moment. Long live Group 44!

Funny to hear the modest dollar amounts (by today's standards) required to race back in the day

I like any race with the Goodwrench Corvette in it. It had real speed and could take it to the Porsches in a big way, but wasn't good at finishing.
Who was in charge at race control when the Corvette caught fire? Stevie Wonder? The full course caution should have come out in seconds. The fire crew response was minutes too slow and they didn't even show up in a fire truck.

I liked to watch Lyn Saint James race. The sport needs more women drivers. Lyn was very pretty.

This lap design looks like a pre-schooler got distracted half way through and just gave up. Lol. I really wish I could have witnessed such a great era of racing though.

I can understand Doc's frustration but in the corner worker's defense...they're not about to run across a hot track...especially if they see that the driver is okay. If the car had been on the other side it probably would have been a different story. And they're not wearing fire suits, either 🤔 but full course caution should have been called WAY earlier.

Yup, full course caution should have been called as soon as possible. Most corner workers aren't wearing fire suits like Doc had on. Once they saw he was out of the car they weren't about to tackle that fire. If he was trapped, it would have been a different story. The fire truck was VERY slow in getting there, too
