Well he did and not only that he survived the refeeding program and went on to teach natural horsemanship to people from ages 3-76 yrs of age. He passed away at 34 yrs old. Bagheera is the Grand Duchess of FSE. She's been an invaluable help with Belle and the foals, teaching them how to fit in and the cheeky duo about horse roles. She is a beautiful girl and in wonderful health for 30, full of vitality and enjoying her senior years in her forever home. You really do look after beautiful Bagheera, Shae and it shows. I love her. Red looked stunning with her black coat.❤

Comparing her now to the neglected and tired alleged “14 year old gelding” she was sold to you as at that auction is just mind blowing. Hard to believe that’s the same horse. She looks at least a decade younger than she did when you purchased her and that’s such an amazing testament to the love and care you give all your horses. I hope to see her on many more beautiful trail rides because Bagheera clearly loves them. Thank you so much for seeing something in her that no one else at that auction saw and being able to provide this sweet mare with such an enriching life 💜
Aww sweetie! A lot of the ponies I learnt to ride on were seniors, a special one was Ben who still enjoyed pottering around and even a couple of little jumps at 36! He had about 3-4 hours work a week past 25 and I think it kept him mobile and fulfilled much older than a lot of horses that get ignored once they can’t jump the same etc. Those lovely old ponies are great teachers and deserve all the fuss and love 😊
Right on! Seniors need love and attention too. And Bagheera deserve all the attention she can get. She does so much with her calm, kind, sweet nature and wisdom. She has been a great mare for the foals, for keeping Belle more calm and with her serene company, and she knows how to handle those geldings - stay away from their high jinx or turn away and show your butt. The fact that Bagheera loves to move, move forward and even lead says a lot about her instincts, energy, giving nature and health. It’s fantastic to be able to ride with ease, with energy, with equine knowledge, with an ability to feel like it’s a meditative experience, is special. We all love Bagheera. She deserves as many “tax treats” as she wants, as far as I m concerned, but even more, the grooming and time for a meditative ride with this wonderful horse is the ultimate with her. Older horses are fantastic. My heart horse was in her early 20s when I first met and started to ride her. She lived to her late 20s and what a horse she was. She might be long gone, but she left a mark

It's terrible to see old horses at an auction, I wish owners did right by them, even if its the rainbow bridge instead of getting the last few dollars.
I also have a 30yo who thinks he's 3.....warms my heart to see others riding their older horses they ARE just as capable if not more....can't wait for the trails😊
To discard a old horse is plain cruelty. They've served you faithfully over the years. Deserve a happy living retirement. Over the years Ive buried 3 of my boys. They never knew abuse/neglect. Each one a cherished treasure. And missec.
I think the reason she does so well is she still does a little bit of work. So many horses go downhill if they don't have a little bit of a job I remember the yard I went to had a 27 Y.O Welsh Cob gelding. He looked about 15 and moved like a 10 Y.O. Absolutely massive neck and strong as a tank, but only if there were jumps. He was a weird old man, a novice ride except if he saw poles. He would get so excited when he saw poles and jumps. He knew his job, just the rider had to try and keep him in check lol

The best pony I owned was an elderly mare we got for free. She was trained Western and English, she was small enough that I could mount her from the ground, I could keep my reins at the buckle and she'd still do exactly what i needed her to- got the highest dressage score at a combined training show doing exactly that. We ended up giving her away when she was 34 but she didn't live long after that. I think she needed us more, the backyard barn and gentle work, not being returned to lesson use. But i was 18 and moving to a city for college, and my parents weren't going to keep the horses without me there. She was like a dog, she'd follow me around with her nose on my shoulder and didn't need a halter. So i have a special place in my heart for the older girls enjoying their retirement with gentle use!
