Very good explanation on the video for the process. It seems I have an older model 160 (1987, I think) as my deck is different, but I think similar enough that this will get me there. The front wheels on mine are the points for adjustment on the front.... Expect I will have to fabricate the rear adjustment bolts but that shouldn't be a big deal. Very helpful.
Thanks so much. It's really amazing how many videos there are teaching you how to do it the wrong way. I appreciate you showing the correct way. Thanks again.
What’s the best way to adjust the anti scalp wheels? You didn’t mentioned that! I’m guessing put the mower at the height you plan to mow at, and put the wheels on the ground! Great videos, thanks for the videos.
In your operator manual there is a page that explains the holes and what cutting heights coordinate to which hole. Then based on your preferred cutting height you will adjust the wheel to that position accordingly. I hope this helps!
They are a lifesaver. Our parts site is currently down for maintenance but you can keep checking on it, 247Parts.com, and get one ordered when it is back up. Thanks for watching!
1/8-1/4 lower in the front. Does this rule of thumb still apply when you mulch or is this just for side discharge? Or I guess you could throw bagging in, although I never bag my yard.
Thanks for the video. Is this adjustment supposed to be done before delivery by the dealer? I'll certainly ask him when I pick mine up when it comes in.
A Z3 or Z5 series would be ideal for cutting grass around so many trees. If you can afford it jump up to Z7. I’m thinking about how many limbs you’ll be mowing over. I’d prefer the heavier gauge deck for that If you do a lot of picking up limbs and leaves and you are pulling any type of carts or something to pick up leaves a X350 or X354. A tractor style is better for pulling carts in my opinion. Some say transmissions on the tractor styles are better for heavy carts compared to a zero turn pulling carts. Hope that helps some.
Your deck wheels depend on what height you will be cutting your grass. each mower is different. They should have markings on them indicating where the wheel should be depending on what height you will be cutting your grass. Does yours have that?
Anyone have any experience using this cutter when driving it up against walls? Will it cut very close to walls or would I need to weed wack what it doesn't cut?
@@WesternEquipment i like the bloopers everybody screws up from time to time. Keep the vids coming. Need more "mow an acre" vids! But all the western equipment vidoes are great and very informative
have you ever thought about doing a video on what John Deere models are good for mowing hills? I think most people know the 100 series tractors are mostly for mowing small, smooth, level lawns but what if you're mowing hills and ditches like this? th-cam.com/video/9_3qCmCmlIg/w-d-xo.html If the 100 series mowers can't do it, can the X300 series do it?
@@WesternEquipment oh, that would be some GREAT information, thanks. by the way, when you buy a new mower, do you know if John Deere sells something that you can apply to a new mower deck to help make it rustproof or give it a non-stick surface so dirt and grass won't stick to it so much? I've seen what some of those 100 series decks look like after a few years when they rust and crack near the pressure points like the spindle mounts and other deck mounts. I've also seen those 100 series decks somehow get moisture between the metal and yellow paint and large sections of the paint will peel away from the rusted metal. I guess the only way to avoid that is to treat the deck with something when it's new but I wouldn't know what to treat it with.

Always follow this rule so you avoid "double cutting" Which is bad for the grass.
Awesome video.
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching!

Yes, it is a part of the PDI or Pre Delivery Inspection. But it is good practice to go ahead and check it before mowing the first time.
Thanks
Thank you and thanks for watching!
What John Deere mower would you suggest for 2 acres with a whole Lotta trees

How much lower should have wheels be than the deck?

Thank you for the video. I just got a John Deere E160 and I love it. These videos will help a lot. Could you give me a shout out in the next video
Glad I could help. Enjoy your new mower!
I wanna buy this guy a Shiner just for helping me with all the videos.
HAHA thanks man!

It will get fairly close but more that likely you would still need to trim edges with the weed wacker. Thanks for watching!
@@WesternEquipment Thank you! Much appreciated
Do yourself a favor take that tire gauge and walk it to the trashcan. Get yourself an Intercomp digital gauge👍
I will have to look into this. Thanks for watching!
Thank God for editing 🤣
Ha. We try and keep it real. Glad you liked the outtakes.

Dude you need to use a long socket for the adjustment.
Way to long using a wrench.
Great idea. Thanks!

We will try to get something put together for a hill test. Thanks for the idea!

You didn’t finish the video because you didn’t continue to level the front of the tractor I was watching that and he didn’t finish it
True, I should have show taking the last measurement. Good catch! I will make sure to do this next time.
