Join us as we spend our first day in Almaty, Kazakhstan exploring the city, we try some traditional Kazakh food and give our opinion on our first impressions here!
This city really isn't at all what we expected! Before arriving into Kazakhstan everything we knew about this country was from the movie Borat...

Almaty is a beautiful city
it’s like my second home
It’s such an amazing city! We loved it, had no idea what to expect but it was awesome! 😄

The last station is Baikonur station, it was made in high-tech design with TV projections of space. It was made to pay homage to Baikonur Kosmodrome.
Every station's name and design have their meaning. For example, the first one was Zhibek Zholy, which in Kazakh means Silk Road. And you saw some illustrations of it on the walls.
Thank you for telling us the reason for it, we didn't realise this! Makes a bit more sense now. Our favourite station is the Auezov Theatre station (we visit in our most recent vlog) very grand!
Pickled snacks you had is a traditional food of local Korean diaspora. And Lagman is a traditional Dungan and Uyghur food, so it has lots of Chinese influence. Almaty is almost as diverse as Big UK cities. People love Baikonur station because it’s kinda styalized to look like space station, that’s why it’s so plain. I personally like Moscow station, And Mukhtar Auezov station, one is super deep, and another is a homage to Moscow. Hope you will enjoy your stay.
We absolutely LOVE lagman! So yummy! I think we personally preferred Almaty to many UK cities we have been to, it's such a cool place. Interesting about Baikonur station based on a space station and quite cool. Mukhtar Auezov station was our favourite (we visit this one on the next vlog) It's super impressive design and so grand. 600 000 soldiers from Kazakhstan fell in WW2
Also before that in 1932 more than half indegenous population was starved to death by Soviets.

It local korean salats. Korean people was deported to Kazakhstan many years ago. Kazakhstan people help for all nation who was deported to Kazakhstan. In Kazakhstan more than 130 nation, but for foreign they are all kazakh

Baikonur subway station is the only one that styled in a cosmic theme, I guess you know why. The others are related to a different cultural aspects like the Silk Road, kazakh famous literature, philosophers etc.

green bazaar is a fresh market in the city and defintely not the biggest one in almaty

The first salads you tried are local Korean cuisine. And as for calamari ones it was a beef stomach😁. I’m Korean who raised and born in Kazakhstan, so our traditional Korean food is completely different than South Korean one so that’s why you didn’t noticed. Next time if you come to Kazakhstan I’d love to show you the prettiest and tastiest places😁

Horse meat is most delicious. Each Kazakh family eat minimum one horse meat. To winter we prepar meat, horse, cow and sheep. Kazakhstan like meat, most horse. You eat kazi.
