my school's rendition of this was so unnecessarily chaotic.... the choir staged it so it looked like the choir was just improvising and the song wasn't actually supposed to be dark, and our choir director pretended to walk off the stage in frustration after the "drummer" line (they did have an actual drummer walk on stage) and one of the students took his place to conduct the end of the piece. it was beautiful
We sang this in the mid-1980s at my elementary school at the annual holiday concert for parents. Our music teacher changed the ending to "Furthermore your gifts are for the four calling birds, three French hens, two turtledoves and a partridge in a pear tree" which I thought was a nice touch musically and lyrically to bring it back to the beginning. Glad to see this version match that as most end with "Furthermore your gifts are for the birds."
My elementary school chorus did this in 1977. I haven't thought about it for nearly half a century and something brought it to mind this morning. Thanks. It was very cool to hear it again.
I did this song my freshman year in Beginning Choir for a Christmas Showcase. Everyone would laugh, especially the choir members. Trying to keep a straight face was next to impossible for this song. Ah... memories. Sweet, sweet memories.
I just got back from my choir concert. One of the all female choirs I'm in(Bella Bo's) sang this. Right before we sang I called out that "This song is dedicated to Low Beux" (The men's choir).
My 6th grade year we did this (my choir director does it every year with 6th graders) this is one of my favorite songs and I cant wait to listen to the 6th graders this year sing it
i remember when one of the choirs at my school did this and they added things in and it was one of the most hilarious things and i can't wait to see what they come up with this year when i visit :)
I remember singing this in my 7th grade chorus class, but for some reason, we didn't end up performing this at the school Christmas concert. Maybe our teacher thought some of the lyrics about killing animals would be too dark for a middle school program. 😂
So many "sang this in my choir" comments. But in my case, I DIDN'T sing this in my grade school choir! I ended up being the only one who practiced long and hard on that song. Everyone else thought it was too hard and decided to cut it at the last minute!
My choir did this but only the guys the tenor and bases generally I was a little upset I like this song I wish I got to sing it but I didn’t so instead of well actually I kept one of the drummers they said “Actually I kept one of the maids milking “

i remember when one of the choirs at my school did this and they added things in and it was one of the most hilarious things and i can't wait to see what they come up with this year when i visit :)
We sang this in grade 4 choir back in 1970, I don't think we really understood the lyrics at 8 years old
We sang this song in middle school choir 40 years ago!
Our choir did this I believe last year but didn't do the drummer part. It was a absolutely amazing song though!
I remember doing this song in middle school for choir I wish my high school would do it
We did this last year for my choir concert and during it the fire alarm went off and people started laughing.
I am doing this for my choir concert
I FUDGING LOVE IT
Doing this for my choir too
I remember singing this in my 7th grade chorus class, but for some reason, we didn't end up performing this at the school Christmas concert. Maybe our teacher thought some of the lyrics about killing animals would be too dark for a middle school program. 😂

My principal disapproved for our choir to sing this song to the elementary students lmao
WE'RE DOING THIS THIS YEAR LOL
Time to go do this is literally 30 mins
I first heard this as a men only song from a beginner high school choir. I might prefer this with men only and with faster speed.
