I do feel for Koba, but It’s always been strange to me how it seems that only after Koba found out humans were still alive he seemingly descended back into madness. Like he seemed to be genuinely loyal to Caesar and saw him like a brother and was even a good friend to his son. We saw him grow to love Caesar and was very happy living in the village with his fellow apes. It’s like when he saw humans again his past came back to haunt him and he wanted to get rid of it once and for all and in doing so lost everything he had gained which was a family. He did things I don’t think he would’ve ever done if he hadn’t found out about the humans. His hatred for things done to him in the past was greater than the love he had gained in the future which is quite sad to see. Very amazing story writing and character development.
Exactly this. I don't think under any other circumstances would Koba ever hurt Caesar. It wasn't until Caeser showed mercy to the humans that Koba lost his shit
Vengeance only leads to more pain for yourself and everyone who cares about you, and sometimes, when you take revenge, you become just as bad as the person that scars you.
Both Koba and Ceasar were amazing characters. I especially loved how you can tell Koba was genuinely loyal to Ceasar throughout the movie until he realizes the reasons for his past trauma are still alive aka the humans😊
Koba is basically Caeser's antithesis. Caeser is merciful, but distrusting still, while Koba can be ruthless, but happy with the status quo (like he was when Caeser was in charge. Another interesting tidbit, according to another commentator, is that Caeser and most of the other apes are chimpanzees, which are notoriously violent, but here they are more peaceful. Meanwhile, Koba was a bonobo, which are generally nonviolent and gentle, yet he's a warmonger. Goes to show how deep Koba's scars run (no pun intended) from the horrific experimentation he went through.
It's actually interesting that Koba is the warmongering one. Caesar & most of the other apes are chimpanzees, which are more violent & aggressive, while Koba is actually a bonobo, which are known to be more gentle & don't solve their problems through aggression as much
That's what made his character development more interesting as although gentle by nature he was driven to rage and violence by rage over his being tested on and mistreated by humans. The detail of him being a bonobo makes him more tragic as a villain. A gentle person driven to rage is the deadliest.
I kinda wish we could've seen Koba before he was experimented on considering he's one of the gentle ones makes you wonder how much he really went through to become such a savage we see him as now..
That’s the moral of the story What happens when you make apes sentient? They become just like humans. Fully aware of their actions and have the ability to go against their Species’ typical nature.
Caesar imo is very wise. As insulting as it is to give the humans so many chances, he understood what would happen if he pushed for war (possible eradication of both humans and apes). And then act 3 basically shows the audience "this is exactly what caesar was trying to avoid this whole time"
Koba believed Caesar was weak because he was unwilling to fight the humans. When in reality it makes Caesar a very wise leader. A good leader evaluates a situation and looks at all the alternatives and only chooses to fight if there is no other way. If you rush blindly into battle (like Koba) then you loose lives on both sides, which is what happened when Koba took over. Apes lost their lives to a war that could’ve been avoided if Koba hadn’t struck first. This is what Caesar was trying to tell Koba, if peace is an option than a good leader searches for it. War isn’t pretty and anyone who rushes blindly into it is a fool. Koba could have let go of his hatred, but instead he let rage guide him and let his past determine his fate.
I'd argue that he doesn't even have a just cause, cuz he don't give a damn about apes. He just wants the world to hurt like he has. That being said, he IS a great villain
Ape not kill ape. Apes together strong. Knowledge is strength. And it's very fitting that Maurice, who was naturally very smart for an ape, is the teacher.
the director of this movie is Matt Reeves and he's honestly one of my fav directors rn, he directed the next movie (which imo is the best in the trilogy) and he also directed the batman 2022 and andy serkis (who plays casear in the apes movies) actually plays alfred in that movie.
@@hirionthebro oh he not only voices him, he's doing motion capture! if you don't know what it is, its when they save the peformance of an actor either on a soundstage or directly on set (like they did here) and basically Andy did all the movements of caesar but he also did all the facial expressions captured through the motion capture and then they basically put all of that work that Andy did onto this 3d model. and they did that for all the apes, they're all almost played by actual actors.
The apes are all played by real ppl with mo cap. Dots are on their faces/body & capture their movements & expressions. Ceasar is played by Andrew Serkis who plays gollum from LOTR. He was one of the crew in King kong & more recently played Ulysses Klauw in Age of Ultron & wakanda forever

It’s important to remember the characters koba was the one getting tested on in the first movie who killed the guy on the helicopter rocket is the jacked one who first picked on Cesar when he got to the enclosure in the first movie and doesn’t have much hair and the orangutan was also the one from the first movie I forgot his name
Actually, Koba wasn't that ape at all. Koba was the ape that went bananas in the labs when Caesar and the others broke out all the test chimps. He has a special hatred for humans because they're the ones who fucked his face up and essentially tortured him.
31:53 in this scene u see the raw strength of the apes just like when Kona pulled that big dude out the car. To put it into perspective each of those machine guns weighs about 40 pounds and you see how easily he picks them up and wave them around like they’re nothing
I watched the film myself recently and I was think how he is dual wielding those obviously haven't machine guns and how the recoil didn't like rip his arms off

Love your reactions with great editing and quality! Also it would be nice to see your reactions to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films from Michael Bay (2014 and 2016). They are very funny and interesting for watching)
The guy you keep wanting Cesar to kill is the one guy the humans can’t afford to lose. He used to work at the dam, knows how it works, and what they need to fix it. That’s why they keep bringing him, even though he keeps fucking up. Lol
Ceasar is the bridge to both species. He was raised by a good human and knows the others were tortured and will go ham if able to. He knows all Humans aren't bad and wants to protect his people.
My mom always liked the actor that played the pilot in the last movie from his role in Star gate Atlantis she's always quoting him from the one episode where he got something and he's going to die saying dead man walking that's funny cause that's basically his character in last movie he was a dead man walking especially by the end with the bloody nose lol. Always love how the apes look and act in these movies lol
