i worked for kimbal's company in colorado, and what he was/is trying to accomplish is pretty awesome. its unfortunate that the pandemic probably put a huge delay in the progress they were making, but the idea was really inspiring. hes a private dude, but definitely not forgotten.

I would argue that sustainable organic farming is MUCH more important than 'getting to mars.'
Elon is trying to find ways to keep humans from going extinct. Well organic farming be relevant is there are no humans left? Organic farming is very important just like trying to find ways to have the human species evolve is important too.

One is not better than the other but for people that think Elon is wasting his time and should focus on food supply, well, not sure what yo say about that. My point is organic farming is not more important. They are both very important an vital for human existence.

Why would restaurants need patents? Restaurants aren't unique inventions. Unless the patent is for automation inside the restaurant which would be interesting. I can just see Elon's robots planting and harvesting the veggies and cooking them up in an automated restaurant.

I’ve never heard of him but I love what he’s doing. I live in NYC and have started growing my own indoor herb garden as I was tossing out half of the fresh herbs I purchased. Food waste bothers me when there are so many ppl that are hungry. I follow chef J. Kenji Alt-Lopez primarily because he teaches how to cook with minimal waste. He also advocates for hungry children. I’ll be following Kimbal now too.

Don't forget that Kimbal is on the board at Tesla too, and Elon has already said several times that if anything happened to him, he knew he could leave Tesla in Kimbal's safe hands, knowing that he'd make the right decisions for the company.
Team Musk. I love the emphasis on food security and shortened transportation. I would love to see this expanding everywhere. I hope they consider Sprung Shelters for expandable greenhouses which are field deployable and suited for anywhere on Earth.
Food scarcity and nutritional value is just as important if not more than transfer to electrification for our transportation.
Another person I would like to shake his hand, and personally thank for his efforts. Sustainable is not a catch phrase it is reality we need to transition ourselves too.

It's not that easy, you also need a variety of livestock and different kind of soils/climates to grow different kinds of vegetables. You also need a constant supply of water, electric energy, internet, fuel to transport your goods, fertilizers, special food for your livestock, and so forth. I'm not saying it can't be done but it would be extremely difficult and costly to be totally self-sufficient.

Kimbal is doing exactly what I was planning on doing. Brilliant man this is big for humanity. I am going to use shipping containers to grow gourmet mushrooms for my farm. Also health products. Need a small patch of land. I am a father on my own trying to care for a special needs kid who's illness prevents me from being able to work a normal job. I am going to start a microfarm so I can make a living for my family while still being present to care for their needs. Also I believe that within a very small space one can have a successful farm business with very little impact on the environment. Wish he would help me do it too

The engineering intelligence seems to come from the father, the curiosity and adventurous spirit from the maternal grandfather, the interest in nutrition and making the world a better place were inherited from the mother. Very interesting family, and there's lots to read about them. My favourite story is about very young Elon attending a computer conference in SA and impressing a bunch of profs with his knowledge.

Honestly I wish I could have two of those crates, and instead of hydroponics, something rather like a aquaponics and aeroponics mix and to just grow different types of potatoes like Russet and Idaho Gold Potatoes. Maybe if the aquaponics part can even make fish, it would be interesting mainly living off of fully sustainable fish and potatoes and with batteries and solar panels of course!
