  • Serene is the Singaporean employer of Lisa, a domestic worker from the Philippines. When Lisa starts working for her, Serene takes her passport and work permit, and does not allow her to take a day off. Serene is caught up in her own work until she realizes that she is unknowingly teaching her daughter about how to treat others. Serene recognizes that in order for her home to be a happy one, she needs to set a good example for her own child about respecting and appreciating others. I worked in Singapore we back 2011. Majority of Singaporeans treat their helpers that way. Employers should treat us good, we sacrifice ourselves to be far away from our homeland and take care other people instead of taking care our own parents or children. Now, I'm working in Taiwan and I've been here for 6 years. Taiwanese are friendly and generous. Kudos to all OFW anywhere around the world. We are the real hero of our country. Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino! Mabuhay ang sambayanang Pilipinas.

    We had a helper too, from Indonesia,she is the best ever of all. Like a second mum to us,we cuddled with her, we annoyed her,we laughed,we still do things when she said no but she has never ever raised her voice. She is such a wonderful person. We love her

    The women that have worked for my family are so important, we called them “nana” because it’s so similar to mamá/mom. My cousin lost her parents and her nana was the one that walked her down the aisle. I don’t see them as “service people”, I see them as second mothers or even best friends and confidents, we are all human and we all want and deserve respect.

    I have a Cambodian maid. Less than 6 months after working with me, I told her I want to bring her home to her country that she can celebrate her new year with family. It was a great holiday for me as I learn how they live in the village without running water and electricity. I was staying with her family. We had a great time and the village ppl welcome me with open arms. I treat my maid like my own daughter. Along the months, I was assisting Cambodian Embassy who asked my help to house few abused Cambodian maids by employers in Malaysia. And trust me the horror on the degree of abuse they suffered are terrifying. Some were beaten up so badly, starved and made to live in the dog kennel and some ran into the jungle to leave their employee house. The bruises and tears on their face will always leave an impact on me. I just cannot imagine how horrible some ppl can be, just because they are "sir,mem, boss". To those ppl who have maids, pls don't think you are ENTITLED to treat your maids/staff with abuse. It is plain sick. If you have problem of your own, deal with it instead of taking out on others.

    I can't understand why people mistreat domestic helpers. My domestic helper (who's also from the Philippines) has been taking care of me and my sister since we were born, and she loves us as if we were her own children. She does everything without complaint and cares deeply for me and my family. In return, my family would always remind me and my sister to respect and treat our domestic helper kindly. She is like a second mother to me and my sister and I truly wish her happiness when she retires.

    We had a maid at home when i was a kid, well she was more my mother than my own was to me. My mother was an alcoholic and an abusive woman and was always insane, she would always beat me since i was the youngest, the most vulnerable, and yet always after that Nene(the maid) was always there to take care of us. She never quit even if my mother would slap and yell at her saying she was my father's mistress, even though it wasn't true. She was the mother figure i had since childhood. i was born on 2003 and she was with my family before i was born and took care of my older siblings before me. She was not only our caretaker because she was being paid for it, it was because we were practically her children even tho she has one of her own. Now 2019 she's still here with her 5th grader son, her son lived with us, and is still taking care of us even after our grandmother, her employer, had passed away without pay. She is my godmother and her son is my cousin. I luv her soo much and although her family is far from here, she still stays and that's why im thankful for her. I just wanted to share this😂😂

    • @thefluffables9008
      @thefluffables9008 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BigBoss-kk8hq Helpers choose to help out of their own will when you can't handle it. They are very much like casual butlers. Slaves just do whatever their 'masters' asks them to. They do it without the will to do it, they do it because they have no choice and it's the only way for them to survive and are treated inhumanely and as objects or tools and get rewarded or paid very little. Helpers do it out of their own will, but because of strong laws, they get paid well enough, if not, exceeding the amount most get paid. There may be underlying reasons, but regardless, it's still something they choose to do. Slaves can't choose. Slaves are forced to do things. Whether they want to or not. And it's cruel. I hate that slaves still exists today. Even if it's not obvious, I'm certain they do in some places. Helpers are to treated with respect and have back up because they're most likely working in areas with strict laws to protect them, but slaves are probably sold and found in rural areas or something of the sort as sch areas probably don't have strong enough laws to stop such cruel activities. Helpers can file a report when they are being abused whereas slaves are seen as objects and tools, something to be used, and no matter where they go to try and find help, they will be treated with mockery and cruelty and be disregarded in most cases. It's cruel. Also, if you really want to know answers to things, go to Google. At least, that way, no one would have to tolerate your questions with patience in order to keep the peace and not explode in your face. It exists for a reason.

They always appreciate my work and always gives me something like flowers, chocolates, gifts, thank you cards and tips. I do my best to give 5 star quality of service and dedication and of course honesty and integrity. Salute to all heros (helpers)around the world. God bless us all!

    For those people with maids, it's for your own good to treat them well as you wanted to be treated. Your life will be easy .... remember your children are watching and no matter what happened you will have a clear and clean conscience. Those Filipino maids are hardworking and will love your children, they are also respectful.

In the video its just a simple thing like giving a day off and letting her join them for dinner , things that employers should do to maids. Afterall , maids are HELPERS not SLAVES. Your comment is just evidence to show how ignorant and ungrateful Singaporeans are.

      BtsJungkookie Love nah it's not that I don't understand. If I were treated well from the start, i would not mind. But if my employer treat me badly at the beginning and suddenly treating me so good, it feels like I will get in a trap or something. It's just like If your pay is $500 per month, and suddenly your employer decided to pay you $10,000 just because he knows you deserve that and he was wrong for paying you so little. But I as the employee, I would rather decline the $10,000 and just take $500 every month unless I get increment according to the company policy. In the society, people have millions of faces looking at other people. In 2017, yes you can find kind hearted people, but it's really rare. In my country, most people are not in mind, we only can trust ourself to live this life.

    My sister worked for a rich family in Singapore. She doesn't get a day off. She was not able to finish her contract and have to ask for help from her agency because the grandma of that family is treating her badly. Sadly, not every one gets the help they need and are stuck to such a horrible working situation. No one deserves to be treated badly.

      I've been with them for 5 years now. Having a Maid is not something employers to boast for and or does not give employers the right for domestic abuse/racism. Rather, it's a privilege, they should be grateful (most especially if they hired a very nice, competitive, learned maid).

      We know so much about them..
      But she only gets a day off sometimes only twice in once month...sometimes she has to borrow money from her friends because my dad keeps asking for money..

    When I was in Singapore, I was shocked to see big crowds of girls spending their day off in parks. In the beginning, I didn't understand it till I sent a photo to my neighbour back in Vancouver telling her about it. She then informed me that these girls were employed as nannies or maids. So Sunday was their day off. They spent the whole day in the park as they didn't have anywhere else to go. So they picnicked with other maids or nannies. My neighbour told me, she was a nanny in Singapore too, that the majority of these girls were ill-treated and considered worse than animals. They had no privacy, they couldn't invite their friends, and they were restricted and shackled by many rules. Only the lucky ones could enjoy being a part of the family.

    I own a nanny & maid Agency in S.E.Asia for many years and I can tell u Singaporean employers are like this woman. They behave as if they resent the worker even being there, treat them badly and humiliate them. It is disgusting. I lived in Singapore too over 20 years ago and when I rented my apartment i was introduced to the maid who would keep it clean.....it turns out she lived in my apartment (in a cupboard under the stairs) and she cleaned several apartments in the compound. I increased her salary at the first pay cycle and told her she could have the spare bedroom if she wanted. She didn't take the bedroom but just by offering it to her brought her to tears. I cried too when I saw her reaction. It costs nothing to be nice and so few employers there were nice to their helpers.

      in real, bad employers never learn their lessons. bad ones will stay bad, eventhough you are nice. good ones may turn bad if you are bad.

      Kaekustard 27 it's absolutely as bad as this here in Singapore. there are many documented cases of employers raping the maids.
      they regularly keep the passports too and make them work with only 1 day off per month. there is a documentary on the Bukit Timah maid stores in the mall where they are hiring 17 year old girls from Burma. the legal age is 23.
      it is MUCH worse than this video in a lot of cases

    • @becautious.3517
      @becautious.3517 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's because the daughter was copying the mom's behavior. If the principal hadn't called to say what the daughter was doing at school, the mother would continue to treat the helper bad. By listening to the principal, the mother could see that the daughter was doing exactly what she saw her doing to the helper at home.
