After 50 years of long service we say goodbye to the R 46..I remember being in High School back in the early 1970's when they were first introduced into revenue service.. Retiring the R1/R9.. That were in revenue service back since the early 1930's thru the 1940's
Wow. These Pullman-Standard R46 subway cars will be and I mean will be one of the greatest NYC Subway cars I had ever experienced, Especially just like the R44’s used to ran on the A line until 2010, And it’s almost time for them to say farewell to the R46 subway cars. I will never forget these subway cars and their unbelievable experiences I had in the entire NYC subway system for a half of century (50 years). Thank you MTA for these wonderful memories for riding and experiencing these Pullman-Standard R46 Subway Cars. They will be dearly missed when it’s time for them to retire. R.I.P. R46 Subway Cars 1975 - 2025. Can’t wait for them to be put in the NYC Transit Museum.
The idea now is for you to get off the train within 30 minutes. Back then if you wanted to ride the train for hours you could. They don’t want that anymore.
@@psychonautO8743The R211s also have tinier windows you can't really get good views much from. They have the same size windows that look a lot like the R32/38 windows that were next to their rollsigns on the entire sides of the cars
I know most people (like Supertoe) don’t like them but I love them. I will miss its beautiful fake wood on the interior and those forward facing seats. Last time I ridden one on the A via express and it feels soo nice going fast. It’s really sad to see them go away.
Glad I got to ride on some of these the last time I visited NYC about a year and a half ago. I only wish I could say the same about the R32s, not to mention the R42s
Some are coming to a end of the R46S. Some of the R46S is definitely staying in the cut to back up the R68s R68As and the R211As R211Ts open and close ways

Going to miss them. I’m glad I got the R46 A yesterday and today on way home from work. Yesterday was a treat. Got to see both the R46 A and C pull up at west 4 street on way home and caught the R46 A going back home with 5884 as the lead car going to lefferts blvd.
@@lamargoat2.054 let’s see. Transit does have 35 as the potential cut off point for years in service. They could overhaul them so they can get past 35. It’s entirely up to them.
Yknow. Being a mid 2000s kid, seeing the r32s retire which i had experience with growing up in 2005-2012 was one thing, but now knowing the pinnacle of my home line (A) is going, its quite surreal. I hope a few cars will join the museum fleet at least.
I still remember getting on my first R46 at 14th and 6th Av during the late spring of 1976. A Magenta "F" with a totally black border and very good air conditioning with the smell of a new car. Much quieter and smoother than the R44. Could it really be 48 years ago???
I know it may not have anything to do with the video or maybe it does, right now about 15 minutes ago I saw an R211 car pass by on a trailer, apparently I don't know where they would take it, the closest thing to its yard is Concourse Yard, around 9 trucks or more with R211 cars, does anyone know what's going on and do they know where they can move them? This was seen by the Williamsbridge Bridge and in Whiteplains near Norwood 205 St.
Gonna miss those cars, and just to let y’all know this is the last car to have the GE propulsion system of the b division which will be the end and replace by R211
As a ex London Underground train driver, really interested in this channel. Are these cars taken to the yard to be scrapped there, or are they taken away to another site by road or rail?
When you realize that R211 Was The Reason all along that R42 is being extinct Notice: There was a medium chance that some people think that The R211 was R46s Arch-Enemy, (Poor R46s they don’t deserve this)
I wouldn’t mind this too much if they had kept the L seating formation even if they removed the middle seat on the 3 seater bench. I hate hate *HATE* the new models and the blinding lights with barely any seats. All the MTA cares about is ridership throughput so they want to stuff us like tuna fish in a can.
definitely don't like the trend of old, comfortable and serviceable stock getting scrapped in favor of new, uncomfortable, plasticky and downright sardine tin can-type stock the caracas metro did this, they had the alstom/bombardiers with the window seats and classic style, and put some bland CAFs with the longitudinal seats, which are dreadful to ride on if you're not getting sardine-canned and probably robbed by a chav/yob.
RIP R46s they were so iconic when it served the A, F, and R lines ill miss them and the seats 😢
Also on the G, E as well
Once Transit fixed them up they became a true mainstay.

There's still plenty of those R46 in service still, they are retiring them little by little
They likely can’t retire them all until either late 2025 or 2026.
Not for a few more years….

It's amazing how long the MTA kept old and new, but now it's...just becoming all new, one retirement of old at a time.
I remember when the R142’s were new. Now they’re practically middle aged.

Yeah they will probably keep a 4 car set around.
I would like to see them preserve a 4-car set, as well as a married pair or two.
So sad to see them go. I remember when they were brand new and placed on the F line. Some folks hated them, but they were my favorites after the R32s

Most likely 207 street yard is the delivery point.
This happen because they only have 70 cars left in the base order for the R211.
A blast to ride them, but they have aged and are breaking down to which they have to be retired eventually.

I wonder if the mta will restore a set in the livery colors with the blue stripe.......
How you film this and catch each station?
It’s a big step towards upgrading the B division to 100% CBTC .
Another era is coming to the end. They had a good life.
They gotta preserve some of the r46

I hope the MTA save some R46 for future generations to ride on like the trains of many colors
What’s the process to dispose of them? Where are they taken and what happens to them?
Usually they are stripped of all useful components and then drug out into the ocean on a barge. They are scuttled to create artificial reefs.
@@AATGStudios the MTAs artificial reef program no longer exists, they stopped it back in 2010.

They are taken offsite to be scrapped. Expect a video some time in the next few months showing the removal process 😎
Old cars used to be taken offshore to become an artificial reef. They don’t do that anymore.
I hope i ride the r46 before the summer is up
They should at least save the bicentennial cars: 6046 and 5613 for the transit museum’s collection
