    You have an absolutely beautiful view out your front porch. I’m so envious of you, but I’m so happy for you

      Yes, we totally agree - Bukidnon is such a beautiful region of the Philippines! (and the temperature is really comfortable)

    I like the gate. Very traditional. 😊👍🏻

      Thank you!
      It's not super sturdy, and pretty bulky, but we like the look of it. Will probably have to change it in the future, but that'll be just that - a future project! 😁
      But I think concrete posts, metal screen gate and bamboo cover... something like that should be sturdy and still look nice.

    i dont know how long you've been working on this place, but just for comparison, my house has a CR ,kitchen,livingroom and small tool room downstairs and 2 bedrooms & terrace upstairs , it took 6 months for me and 6-7 helpers to finish it, rough finish, not countertops or tile or paint or things like that, just the structure and roof. we didnt have to build a retaining wall like you but our house was DOWN HILL about as much as yours is UPHILL, so we did have to carry everything down by hand, cement, rebar everything.
    we did work 8-10 hour days 6 days a week tho. and i was working along side them.
    that vent pipe in back- just cut that off about 4 feet high and put a U shape pipe or 2) 90 degree elbows on top, it doesnt need to be 30 foot tall. it just allows air to rush in behind the waste going downhill so it wont create a vacuum. if your septic tank is way down the hill have it vented with a similar pipe to keep the biology working in it, you want the bacteria etc to function, any smell it may produce would be from there not the vent by the house.
    my septic is right behind the house and you cant smell anything unless you put your nose right at the pipe.

      Lourlin hates the flagpole, so yeah, we'll shorten it. It wasn't a big priority for me, so many other projects going on...but it is a bit of an eyesore, haha.
      My estimation right now is 2-3 months on the house, with patio and outdoor kitchen, and extra 1-2 for skim coats/painting/electricity/water/bed/sink/floors. It's not too bad, just feels like it's taking forever. Extra projects/issues pop up, Lourlin having to travel (I'm pretty useless without an interpreter, the whole "everyone speaks English" is so not true) etc. But "soon" we'll move in, and I get to go over everything the first crew did (yay!). I'll still be as nice as I can be though!
      We learn a lot from the process though, hopefully some of it is relayed through the videos. Not just about building, but also about how things are done here (it's very different). Interacting with people, paperwork, quality/lack of etc. I'm very lucky that my wife is fluent in several languages and we work well together, this would be impossible without her.

      @@ABetterLifePH thats not that bad, 2-3 months, considering the leveling of the land the retaining wall and then the house part at this stage.
      once you get in and clean up the whole area and are there to supervise everything constantly it will go much better.
      just cleaning the area will improve your mood.
      i highly recommend painting the entire interior with white latex paint before moving in!
      it will brighten it up make most use of any lightbulbs and you can paint over it any colors you like later, it WILL get dirty again before your extension and all is done and you need to paint anyway. treat it as your primer coat.
      IT SO DEPRESSING STAYING IN A BARE CONCRETE CAVE PLACE !

    • @ABetterLifePH
      @ABetterLifePH  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We actually have the paint already (bought). We'll use an light beige tone in the bedroom (and flat latex primer or what it's called), and the planned acqua epoxy (white) top coat, we'll just use for the cr. I still want a top coat, but we can buy more paint.

      Yeah, the gate isn't perfect, but even long term I think we'll go with something similar. Bamboo fits much better into nature than concrete and metal. Maybe metal for sturdiness with a bamboo cover to look nice...

      Hi, thank you!
      The living room will be next to the bedroom, with a hallway (without division) in between. Our temporary outdoor kitchen will be by the patio (entry). The permanent outdoor kitchen will be next to the living room. We also plan to have a storage room at the back, behind the living room.

      @@ABetterLifePH Interesting, what a lovely view then from living room and the bedroom. I can't wait to see the progress, I believe the workers work faster when you are on site every day. Some expats say the workers stop work as soon as you leave therefore the building process is slow but they make money for longer....just something to think about.

      @ABetterLifePH  วันที่ผ่านมา

      We have a package price, or did with the first crew, we didn't pay per day. But yes, it is definitely better to be on site if possible, and after we move in we will be able to control things.

    It feels like the house has been taking quite a while to complete. I understand that the team is likely paid for their work as it progresses, but it does seem to be a longer timeline than expected.

    • @ABetterLifePH
      @ABetterLifePH  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      We have a package price with them. They are not there all the time. We also made some changes to ensure our safety (live and learn). They wanted to do 3" cement floor inside, with nothing under it for example. And we wanted the concrete roof to cure before they started doing things to it.
      But I agree, it took a long time. Things will be done different in the future, when we expand.

      @@rayintoledocebuphilippines5517 Haha, yeah. To fully complete ours, it will take longer. But I think phase one (able to move in, with water/electricity) will be completed before 2025. Somewhere around 3-4 months (house only, not counting road/retaining wall). Not so bad, but it sure feels like it went slower.

    • @pstatic694
      @pstatic694 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@rayintoledocebuphilippines5517 Not really, if you use lazy people or don't manage it correctly it can take years. When we talk about such "small" size they are building currently it should not take more than 1-2 months if they doing it slowly.. If it takes longer and you don't have set prices as they do in this channel you are getting scammed.. If it's set prices they work hard to complete it but with that said if they work hard the quality isn't always good so you would need to be there and check for the quality. And as they mentioned they have seen some "low quality" by not being there but they have already changed some stuff with the contractor such as the floor. I mean people can do whatever they want if it takes them 1 year or even 3 years and they are happy and they got unlimited cash go for it.. It does not bother me as I will be on site daily when we build and make sure to have someone that i trust nearby to ensure that they work and not sit around smoke cigarettes or are absent.. It's easy if you hire workers pay daily fee and if they show up and work good give them a 1 day bonus.. That's one way i've figured out how to have good workers keep track and pay a 1 day bonus per week. anyway I should stop write about it..

    • @ABetterLifePH
      @ABetterLifePH  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Finding the right people may take a while. Even with bonuses etc, not all will show up every day and some may even show up drunk. But if you're on site every day - no big problem!

    At least the one of the most visited room (CR) of the house is getting done. Hopefully the drainage slope of the piping are installed at least 1/4 inch slope every foot otherwise it won't drain and get plugged. Then you have a problem. If your water hose flows 24/7 you don't have a problem of water supply. BTW, is Luloy is your contractor?

    • @ABetterLifePH
      @ABetterLifePH  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      They claimed to have tested the drain, but yeah, I should too actually. Thank you!
      Loyloy is our neighbor. He, and his family, will be doing most of the work from now on. Probably should have used only them from the start, but I figured that the people who did construction work professionally wouldn't need constant supervision. I was wrong.

      We are in Sinuda (a couple of hours north of Davao, Mindanao) in Bukidnon. Beautiful area, I strongly suggest visiting.
      However, most of it is Ancestral Domain, so no titles (you can get a COLO and other paperwork though). We found the place through family (hers, not mine 😁). You should, in my opinion, visit and take a look around first. It's a bit away from larger cities/luxuries, and although it's perfect for us - definitely not for everyone (age/health matters). But we know some people, if you are interested. Prices are much more affordable here than in the city, partly because of lack of title of course (important to go through the correct way/people, lots of double selling and scamming in the Philippines).
      Best of luck!
