  • Mia Rampersad, a Girl Scout, interviewed and worked with Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) to create a video to increase awareness regarding plastic pollution and its impact on the ocean and marine life. To learn more about LMC, please visit www.marinelife.org. To learn more about Mia, please read her bio below.
My name is Mia Rampersad and I’ve been in Girl Scouts since I was in Kindergarten. The Gold Award, the greatest and final award a girl can receive before going off to college, requires making a sustainable project on an issue in the world or my community that I feel strongly about. To obtain the Gold Award, I chose to do a project on plastic pollution in the ocean and around the world, which is an ongoing and escalating crisis. With help from the great people at Loggerhead Marine Center and others around Palm Beach County, I was able to make a PSA video about the causes of plastic pollution, its effects, and practical solutions. By conducting this project, I hope to bring more awareness to the plastic pollution crisis so more people can recognize how harmful this situation really is, not to just our oceans and waterways, but to ourselves as well. It’s my goal to use this project as a tool to have others join me in this worldwide initiative.
