Backstage Tour: Manta Roller Coaster Tech Talk SeaWorld Orlando Insider Look At Trains / Maintenance

  • It's a rare chance when guests can go backstage at one of SeaWorld Orlando's roller coasters and we did just that during a recent limited capacity tour! While on the 40 minute tour, we were thoroughly informed about some of the behind the scenes work that goes on in the maintenance barn to keep their all-star attraction Manta roller coaster running 365 days a year. Here's a condensed version of that tour that will showcase some up close and personal views of the train, wheels, and more!
    If you would like to see more of these tours...we highly encourage our viewers to reach out to SeaWorld Orlando to request that they host more / give guests the option to purchase tickets for exclusive tours! If we all drive enough interest in these, I'm sure the park will take notice.

    I really wish more parks would do more tours like this. If the park charged the correct amount say $60-$80 a person as well as include admission into the park and had a minimum 2 people per group they could make a killing

    Excellent shots, Dan! As always, loving the SeaWorld content. In this one, I especially loved the giant lift chain, which simply looks like it's off of a giant bicycle. Or a giant chainsaw, hahaha.
    You are right. This tour was an excellent concept on the part of the SeaWorld managers. With increased knowledge of something, generally we take an even greater interest in it -- not that Manta needs much help with interest to us!
    Thanks again for the conversation. You're a good dude.

      Thanks for watching, excellent work on yours as well! I agree...we a little bit of fine tuning, they really could have an incredible tour(s). Was great hanging out with you after everything was over and watch some Infinity testing!

      Thank you lots, Dan. It means a lot. Always a refreshing pleasure to watch an MM update! And thanks for further catching me up about Infinity Falls. (This is where abbreviations get tricky: It's *A* Midway Mayhem update, but *AN* MM update, lol. ...Sorry, I'm a word nerd. Love the MM alliteration!) Have a great day!

    I came to SeaWorld today and rode Manta. I didn't think there was a maintenance tour.

      It was a special one day only thing and only the first 100 people that signed up were allowed to partake :( Hopefully we see more in the future!

      I kinda have to agree with you I really enjoy the illusion of flying...... Don't get me wrong mako is fantastic but there's just something about that rush manta gives me

    • @marcussheen
      @marcussheen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it's a bit like choosing your favourite child as all three B&Ms are really great, but I feel I've ridden a lot of better B&M hypers, whereas I think Manta is the best flyer I've ridden and probably (for me) the most complete of all the three B&Ms in the park. Kraken I feel was ruined by VR when I rode it as it obscured the floorless aspect even when not worn.

    Love the tour and video, but those techs need megaphones for future tours so we can hear everything lol

    • @MidwayMayhemChannel
      @MidwayMayhemChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm sure that if they were going to charge anything for these tours, they'd be done the right way with megaphones / mics like you've said. Honestly, it was great to have such a small group....I just was venturing around (with permission) to give you guys other views! Thank you so much for watching and leaving some input just in case the park may see this!

    I rode this past weekend and was sick the rest of the day. There is one part in the ride that feels like your blasting off to the moon.

    • @ILikeZike
      @ILikeZike 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cheers! Sorry to hear about the sickness, but I would bet that you're talking about the hard downward-bound part of the tall pretzel loop. While Manta probably is generally thought of as a fairly tame coaster, even for one with multiple inversions, that pretzel loop drop is probably the singlemost intense coaster element in any of the Orlando-area parks. Of course, Mako and Kraken at SeaWorld have their moments, but the Manta loop just grabs you from totally out of nowhere. At this point, sometimes I just yell through that part, so that I can end up laughing at myself.

    • @donaldspera3497
      @donaldspera3497 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was it that pretzel loop. I have never felt g's like that

    • @ILikeZike
      @ILikeZike 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I read you. I don't think that I'd ever felt ride forces like that, either. The thing is, Manta was my first ever coaster (or any park ride) that had an inversion. I'd always wanted to try some kind of more "extreme" coaster, whatever that means to each person, but I'd always been apprehensive, or what we all call "scaaaared."
      But my wife, also not a lover of "extreme" rides had ridden Manta several years earlier, before we met, and she remembered it being very fun, so she encouraged me to ride it, bless her heart, lol.
      She didn't remember the pretzel loop, though, hahaha, and you get that thing almost straight out of the drop. So, we rode it, somewhere in a middle row, and we both thought, what just happened there? Wow, that was intense. ...And then we rode it again right away, closer to the front, I think. ...And then we rode Kraken a couple of times, which was new for her, too.
      It still took us some time to talk ourselves into Mako, but once we did, there was no avoiding it. Mako is sheer exhilarating joy, too. Long story short, I love all of the SeaWorld Orlando coasters, and I just yell during the pretzel loop, because the rest of Manta is such breezy fun. But the pretzel loop makes me feel like I accomplished something (aka remembering to breathe), lol.
      Many happy returns to you!

    • @MidwayMayhemChannel
      @MidwayMayhemChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pretzel loop is brutal. If I ride back row on it....I have to mentally prepare myself EVERY TIME for what is about to happen....and it still never helps.

    Great video , brilliant being able to see the side you don’t normally see! I’m from the UK and I am a vehicle technician here and I’d love to know how similar/different the work is between vehicles and coasters. A question you could perhaps ask if you ever attend another of these tours?

    Hi Dan. Do you know what all the pumps and tanks are for outside the maintenance area at Manta?

    • @MidwayMayhemChannel
      @MidwayMayhemChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just many of the pumps that keep the water flowing for the show elements / tanks with marine life.

    Six flags is buying SeaWorld Aquatica and Busch Gardens. Bye bye SeaWorld. Who knows maybe the deal might not make it, but then again SeaWorld attendance has been falling for the past couple of years. Six flags wants a park in Orlando, so this deal could happen.
